Another great video Peter. My dad taught me that trick on the starter when I was in high school. Works every time.

That starter motor is the easiest to get at, that I've ever seen -- as opposed to my '97 Honda Legend, which is the hardest to get at, in the history of the automobile.

Unreal. Worked like a charm. Would be good to show a short clip of how / where you tapped on it just so folks can get the sense. Thank you for posting this. Was able to get the car home so I wasn’t stuck at the grocery store.

This is going good advice they should teach in drivers Ed along with how to change a flat. On the side of the road or parked and in a lot, you can also grab the emergency jack hook in the trunk and with the long handle, tap it just like you did. People might not have a pipe or hammer in the field.

PS is your wife's car needing more work or maybe she is staying home on this day and that's why you have it. Hopefully it is not a bad reason why it is there with you

Maybe even the wife came along today haha

Denso makes the good ones. Lasts forever. Toyota owns like 25% of the company. My alternator lasted like 150k. The original I believe because the sticker was blue. The remans are red I think.
@nordicpride97082 жыл бұрын
Both are great. Toyota uses a lot of rebuilds. I prefer the OEM JAPANESE ones, but the quality control in anything Denso/Aisin is second to none!
@LAactor2 жыл бұрын
@@nordicpride9708 because both are* the same quality

An old mechanics trick that works.

The contacts in the starter wear out. We would change the contacts out for our good customers back in the 90s.
@LAactor2 жыл бұрын
Wish it was easier to find shops who would rebuild our originals. Maybe a brush, maybe the diode but everyone wants the easy way now. To change it and pass the cost to the customer.
@marceldaniel6732 жыл бұрын
@@LAactor I was wishing that @Peter would change the carbon brushes in that starter and put it back to be used another 150k. I always changed carbon brushes on starters, they only cost £12 and takes me around 20 minutes to clean the starter and put grease where needed. $10-$15 carbon brushes much cheaper than a whole starter over $200.
@FredTheLutinoCocatiel2 жыл бұрын
@@marceldaniel673 you should change the bushings out too and re Grease them also Emory cloth the commutator make sure they arent running into each other with a file.
@marceldaniel6732 жыл бұрын
@@FredTheLutinoCocatiel Yes I've always done it completely, quite a few good clips on KZbin on how to refurbish your starter motor and alternator.....

Everything is doable on Toyota, only matters of peace by peace including rear spark plugs on V6

Petr, I had hoped they would choose the Denso starter to see if it would last 17 years like the original.
@sirsweetness83322 жыл бұрын
Glad to see a comment like this. I always tell my free labor friends and family members that I give free labor so they can buy the correct parts. Put Denso back on a Toyota
@LAactor2 жыл бұрын
@@sirsweetness8332 exactly. And you should remand from now on, if you can't then my labor will be charged because it will not be the only time I have to do it and my time is valuable. Don't let the one who is poor say they cannot afford it. They will tell the others and then you'll be doing comebacks for the unreasonable ones. Imagine if they didn't know you, they still would be fixing it somewhere

I wonder how much a rebuild kit is it only takes an hour to rebuild. I checked it's $30.

Am Very Glad to hear the Toyota starters can still be rebuilt. I’ve also got a Honda Odyssey and it’s connections are soldered and no replacement parts available.

Honda battery in a Toyota? 🤔 I would clean the cable & battery terminals as regular maintenance when replacing the starter.

I have a 2006 Sienna, and this is starting to happen with my starter, its starts sometimes, but other times, the starter won't start, its starting to drive me crazy, I hate when intermittent starters start sometimes, but wont start other times, so i am starting to think that I should start changing out my starter.
@highlypolishedturd79472 жыл бұрын
Are you tapping on the actual starter motor, or the solenoid?
@LAactor2 жыл бұрын
On the startermotor body. Imagine like the bendix is stuck from corrosion, rust or something and you're trying to free it. The gear part pops out to spin the flywheel in the trans. Similar to when a needle is stuck in a carburetor.
@highlypolishedturd79472 жыл бұрын
@@LAactor Geez, it IS like a stuck needle, isn't it? Thank you, that's a better answer than I normally expect from KZbin comments!
