One of the most exciting matches of the tournament ! It all came down to the final 4 balls, Corey needed 1, Efren needed all 4 of them. Action from the 5th round on the winners side.
This is Games 3, 4 and 5

I am not an expert on one pocket or something. The fact that reyes forcing upcoming pro's like corey think super hard for a shot while he breezes through is proof enough of his skill at the game.

If someone investigates the educational achievements of the players who pronounce "EFREM" you will find out that they never finished high school

Yes. And he was constantly switching cameras in the middle of a shot. That's an absolute no-no.

@@paulsmc7041 Finally I found two that agree with me, terrible camerawork. Plus, I am at 17:48 and once again the score is wrong.

I have heard experts on this game say several times Efren is the undisputed master. I havent seen all his matches, but I was pretty impressed by Mike Sigel at this.

This. Seriously... those of us who appreciate all of the nuances of one-pocket want to watch the safety battle. We really don't give a flying fuck about balcony seating!

Your description is wrong. Yes, it came down to the last 4 balls... but it was COREY that needed all of them, while Efren only needed the one.

For those of you crying about how long Corey takes to shoot in this. One pocket is the slowest game there is. One game quite often can take over an hour. And the reason Reyes conceded the game was not to conserve energy, the reason players concede games is because if your opponent has easy shots you do not want them to get anymore in stroke. The less shots they have to shoot, the less their stroke can open up. Plus the longer Efren stays in his chair the "colder" his arm gets. makes shots harder

One of the top questions here is why so many older players and commentators refer to Efren Reyes as “Efrem”. When people are faced with a word that isn’t in their vocabulary, they will very often substitute a similar word which is. Efren is a name unfamiliar to most older Americans. But they were all too familiar with the name ‘Efrem’, due to a very popular television detective series called “77 Sunset Strip” which ran from 1958 to 1964. Everyone knew the jazzy opening title music, which included the announcer saying, “starring Efrem Zimbalist Jr.” The name was literally drilled into our heads. It doesn’t help that ‘n’ and ‘m’ at the end of a word sound similar. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYjGe4eHd719pKM

Lol. I've been wondering this myself for a long, long time. Definitely bizarre, as it can't be a regional/dialect thing either. Nick is from Kentucky, Sigel from New York, Rempe's from Pennsylvania, but they all say "Efrem." Your guess is as good as mine.

@nae8man87 Perhaps you are not familiar with 1 pocket. It's not a speed game, it's a strategic cerebral game. A single rack can easily and commonly take 45 mintues to even 2 hours; that's just the game. If you prefer fast play and shot clocks, certainly 9-ball is your game. But for 1 pocket, Deuel's pace is perfectly normal. I actually just came back from one of his matches today and he was playing pretty darn well. He was playing pretty fast... But he wasn't playing Efren :)

You're not supposed to do anything other than win or lose. Some tournaments frown on giving your opponent the rack even a straight in hanger. I've played in tournaments where conceding a game and being noticed doing it costs you 2 games plus that game (9ball but still). Most pro tournaments will make you shoot the 9 even with ball in hand.

knowing Corey's play style I would say he was either doing that or he was playing the double kiss off the 2, the 15 would go and the 2 would stay put. He has done shots like that to me quite a bit over the years. I hate how the commentators call shots THEY would play and if the players do anything else then they say the player hit it wrong.
@patstarz

these commentaters are annoying at times. i believe at approx 10:50 Deuel might have been playing the 2 off the 15, not a 2 15 combo and the commentaters wouldnt shut up about it. the 2 off the 15 is a good shot, he just missed it.

Billy Incardona is great as always. I hate to say it, but this other commentator is one of the worst I've ever heard. It's nothing personal; he seems like a great guy, but his mic is so hot when he laughs, it's loud and cracks aggressively. He also seems to ramble and laugh perpetually at nothing. Amazing match, thanks TAR!

I hope that Billy listened to this tape and realized how idiotic he sounded to continue talking about his "give up the game if you're tired" point for ten minutes. Yes, it's a valid thought. You said it; we heard it. We *don't* need to listen to you trying over and over and over to get your partner to agree. Jeez.
