YES I NOTICED THAT ALSO I CAN ONLY ASSUME HE SOAKED THE NEW FILTER IN A SEPARATE CONTAINER SINCE EARLIER IN THE VIDEO WE SAW A CLEAR CONTAINER AND HE SPOKE OF SATURATING THE NEW FILTER. IT WOULD SEEM EASIER HOWEVER TO JUST FILL THE HOUSING IN THE VEHICLE AS THE NOTE MENTION IN THE VIDEO. (A BIT CONFUSED ON THAT MYSELF)

Lol just did that. Definitely just fill the filter housing 2/3 to 3/4 full and put the filter in after.

Hi Mick, I know this is coming 7 years later...but better late than never right? I soaked it in the filter housing. What I meant was to allow the filter some time to become saturated after you install it and add fuel.

Excellent detailed instructions. One may also want to wear Nitrile gloves while coming in contact with the fuel.

thanks for the video, my 2013 just had its last free oil change at 30K, so in 10K i'll need to give it it's 2nd fuel filter change, was worried that i wouldn't be able to prime it but your illustration seems to solve that for me!

Depending on where you get fuel, it can be very important to drain the canister (wiping out less important, but do it anyway). Water is your biggest enemy, and you don't want to leave any there even tho you know its on the "dirty" side of the filter. If you get too much water, you'll get 1) reduced power in a big way - a problem on the road, and 2) can damage the pump eventually. And for 2011-2014 owners, check and see if your car is subject to the brand new warranty extension (as of July 2015) on the high pressure pump to 120,000 miles. But you MUST have the misfuel excluder installed (free at VW dealer) to get this extension. Cost to replace the pump ~$7,000.00. DO THIS NOW.

Great video, very informative. I would recommend if you had a torque wrench that you use it tho! Just my two cents. It says 45nm which is around 30 ft lbs.

How did you empty the canister? A relay or suction syringe?
@ElectrifiedOutdoors
@ElectrifiedOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
I used a Pela extractor. Those are mainly used for top side oil changes but they work for extracting other fluid and diesel fuel as well. I didn't reuse the diesel that I extracted out. A large syringe might work very well for this and if you store it in a clean container you could reuse the fuel. Probably a good idea with fuel prices as high as they are right now.

What layout are the pipes on the lid and How far down into the filter body does the pickup reach? Looking for a cheap surge tank for a project this looks like it would be ideal.

Great question. Here is a link (not sponsored) to a vendor who is selling the fuel filter housing. It has several pictures from different angles. www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-volkswagen-audi-parts/fuelfilter/1k0127400n/?gclid=CjwKCAiAk--dBhABEiwAchIwkR_1mlhvs-QnB_KldGEpB3oy6J6XiwUkcsQweALc5g86y9osTcpNQRoCd1MQAvD_BwE

I don't get it, fuel filter replaced without VCDS? Just soaking the filter and fill up the case and crank?
@ElectrifiedOutdoors
@ElectrifiedOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Yes, in a perfect world you would have VCDS to actuate the pump but the system will prime itself when you turn the key. Going off memory here as I no longer have the vehicle. What I usually do is get power service diesel fuel additive and fill the cannister up a little so the filter is already soaked. Had no issues. I know with older models this wasn't possible....you needed VAG-COM to prime it.
@jettatdi99
@jettatdi99 10 жыл бұрын
First that container where filter goes needs to be drain out form diesel and clean . Second thing is you need to have Diagnostic tool( cost $400) to prime fuel pressure in system. If you do not do this you will damage High pressure diesel pump.

Does it matter if you get rid of the old fuel in the canister?
@ElectrifiedOutdoors
@ElectrifiedOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Great question. No the fuel in the canister is pulled through the filter. The hole in the middle of the filter is where the clean fuel goes to the injection pump so make sure you don't get any fuel in there. I just like to clean the canister to make sure there is no debris or water in the bottom.
@danieltoney6980
@danieltoney6980 Жыл бұрын
Do you have to prime anything before you do this? Does the canister have to be empty before adding the new fuel filter? I know this video is over 10 years ago but I need help doing this correctly cause I have a Passat tdi with 62k that’s probably due for one, and want to make sure I do it right and not break the car lol
@ElectrifiedOutdoors
@ElectrifiedOutdoors Жыл бұрын
No on this model the system will prime itself when you turn the key. The cannister doesn't need to be empty. I just wanted to clean it out. In fact its good if you add some diesel or Power Service additive back to the cannister so the filter is already wet when it is primed. I no longer have the car but I believe every 20-25k miles it should be done for optimal performance. If it hasn't been done in a while you will notice the vehicle runs much smoother. 62k pretty low miles...nice!

Hi, could you just soak the fuel filter in the filter housing on the car? Did you use the clear container just as a example? I was a little confused. Also, this is a TDI-would the fuel filter be similar on the SE? It's an automatic. Thanks so much!!
@ElectrifiedOutdoors
@ElectrifiedOutdoors 10 жыл бұрын
Hi and thank you for watching. Yes, you should soak it in the housing on the car. Yes, the clear container was used as an example. Fuel filter is the same as they all have engine code CKRA IIRC. Fuel filer part number should be the same. This vehicle was a TDI SE manual trans.

Not the first time no. I soaked the filter in the filter housing. I just did the 40k service and used VAG-COM to cycle the in-tank fuel pump. Priming with vag-com is the recommended way to do it. Thanks for watching!
