2012 - 2016 Subaru Impreza Backup Camera Install

Watch a full tutorial as a 2012 Subaru Impreza / Crosstrek will have a Backup Camera installed to an existing double din touch screen Radio. This camera will be installed in the license plate area to the a Pioneer radio installed in a previous video.
This video applies to Subaru Impreza and Crosstrek XV models for years 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. For 2015 and 2016 model years, the dash bezel may be slightly different, but the technique used will be the same. This video includes complete wiring and installation of the camera.

Excellent install video! Fantastic step by step instructions explaining everything very concisely. I have this exact car and it helped me install my backup camera in the hatch. Thank you!!! A hint. Using regular electrical tape, and a little bit of silicone spray gets through the tube in the hatch really easily.

I tackled this b/u camera install on my daughter’s 2012 Impreza and the RCA cable was only long enough to reach the pass through boot on the hatch. I routed it the same way. How long is the RCA video cable you used in this video? Your videos were very helpful. Thank you

Is it possible to run the wire from the inside of the cab to the rear lights? I can't find the exit from the inside

So I had my camera installed and I took it too the dealership to have them run a inspection on my car and now my camera won’t turn on when I reverse anymore. What could they have done? It does work when I manually switch to it on the dashboard. So I know the camera still works

not on this type of camera, no.

Is soldering the extension wire necessary? Or can you get away with twisting it in and sealing with electrical tape?

Yes, soldering binds the connections. Twisting and sealing with electrical tape can lead to the wires can becoming undone. A soldering iron cost like $10 from a hardware store.
