I did not think anyone on the planet used 3M 'T' taps in electrical work. It has proven since they were introduced back in the seventies to be the world's worst. The metal blade tends to cut the wires, then it corrodes if enough damage has not been done. Anytime a circuit has a problem and you see one of those blue or other colored in use it is about a ninety percent chance that that is the problem. This happens in ideal conditions so if any moisture is present then it is a given. Use cold solder joints with their shrink wrap or crimp connectors rated for marine use which have a sealant inside the heat shrink cover. You can also use hot solder with shrink wrap over the joint, although that is more work. A loom cover will protect any exposed wire and is good practice. Many times those connectors will severe both wires and fail to make the connection creating a lot of work if the one run has no slack in it.

Very neat install dave :-D I also like the simple direct hardwired video cable, less crap to fail.

Works far better than those solar powered units with the Bluetooth button.

You didn't see the finished install. I routed the monitor cable around the dash and under the glovebox and back to power point. It was for my wife's aunt. She is in her 80s and still driving.

@@12voltvids Some people can still drive safely at 80, my uncle was 93 and he was as sharp as a razor. Unfortunatly he broke a hip and after a perfect operation the crap local hospital managed to kill him , shame as he was very fit for his age. This hospital also gives you free covid, management need hanging. I miss my uncle, a very clever man.

The antenna is on the cable. Right at the point that the camera plugs into the power lead. As soon as it gets power it transmits and the monitor wakes as soon as it receives its signal. Much better then those solar powered garbage units especially the ones that have be viewed on a phone. If I didn't have a factory camera I would put this on my car, but all my cars are too new and have factory cameras. That's the problem with having money burning a hole in my pocket. I have a tendosy to spend it.

Yes I am fully aware of that. My father in-law drove right to 85 then they took his license as his eyesight was failing. My mother drove into her 80s. My old neighbour drove till 93 and then gave the community the first drive thru library. Another old timer that lived up the street from my parents confused the gas and brake, came flying across the street, totaled my car that was sitting out front, totaled my sister's car and plowed right through the garage and hit my dad's old van parked in the garage. (This was when I was about 18 living at home) and then the old boy was upset when they took him off the road. He was really old, late 90s. Old bugger lived to 101.

Any suggestions on a good high resolution camera set that can see on all sides of the car incase something happens? A lot of cameras are good image quality, but still fail to capture the idiots license plate clearly enough.

I never knew that you work in cars. I will not be surprised that you do car alarms installation.

I don't work on cars. I avoid them like covid19. This was a relatives car I was asked to put a backup camera on.

How did you run the cables through the cabin?
@12voltvids3 жыл бұрын
Camera only connects to backup light. The link to the screen is wireless. The screen plugs into 12 power socket.

Why would you have used the worst style of wiring connection? Scotch Locks allow water in the wire and sometimes it cuts the wire totally. Solder and heat shrink is the only way, especially in the lower mainland BC. Other than that it is a nice simple backup camera 👍😎

I used what came with the kit. Water should not be an issue as the back of that lamp is sealed with a gasket. If water gets in, it will simply run out. Worst mistake people make is to tape things up. The tape holds the water in.

Scotch locks do infact cut the wire over time a little each time with each little bump in the road.
@BloodAsp3 жыл бұрын
I fully agree, I avoid scotch locks like the plague. Nothing beats solder and heat shrink. Then again, if it is someone's car that you don't like and you want to save time now... well then... Nah, I'd still never do that.

@@12voltvids They do last longer in stationary settings but if you ask people who deal with wire faults on vehicles they will tell you how that the high resistance fault very often appears in the scotch lock style couplings.
