I have had issues with my back brakes dragging thanks to the stupid parking brake design and I wonder if this design takes its toll on the reverse gears. Also the van is so heavy, even low tire pressure can damage it! It's good to see that Rock Auto sells the updated compounder drum which should help prevent the reverse issue in the future. My van just hit 140,000 miles and fixing the transmission should make it last even longer! Lots of good tips for do it yourself save yourself money people like me 🙂 Thanks for the video!

Update! I changed the trans fluid and filter and saw no metal in the pan. But when I took off the filter I had chunks of the lower drum in the filter! I went ahead and finished the job and the van shifted and worked like it did before. Reverse still stutters but is no longer stops working once the trans is hot. Looks like I will be doing the repair that you did in this video as I have an emissions test to get done and this stupid P code will cause it to fail 😞 Thanks again for this very informative video!

Question, did you remove the valve body during this process? My daughters 2009 has lost reverse & when i pulled the pan found a piece of that compounder on it. looking into trying it with the upgraded compounder. Feel free to contact me-

@@morganperry3852 yes, I removed the valve body to remove the lower compounder. The metal lines that run from the valve body run directly into the lower compounder.

Excellent video, thanks for sharing... I have a 62 te, I changed the torque converter and oil pump and now it only moves in reverse when putting drive, it jerks and doesn't move and I have the codes p0871 and p0585, what could it be? thank you so much

Mine started shifting hard only in reverse. Its like a bang otherwise everything works good. 180k running good.

That's what happened to me. Started shifting hard in reverse like a bang. Then suddenly today it acted like it was in neutral even though I was in reverse.

My question is do you have to pull the valve body to be able to pull the reverse drum

You have to get the fluid lines out of the lower drum to be able to take it out

How long did it take u to remove the compounder from transmission

Not long at all. Maybe a few hours (2 to 3 hours). It’s very easy, you just unbolt the cover on the driver’s side of transmission and everything opens up from there.

Yes. From start to finish I would say it took around 7 to 8 hours.

What did u use the press drill for?

To hold the inside casing down the better set the inside retainer clip
