Thanks for the helpful video. I followed this to change my fluid and filter this last weekend on our 2012 T&C with just over 120k miles. Transmission shifts like brand new again. It' so silky smooth. (Was fine before the fluid/filter change. Just even better now) One note though, when I finally got the pan loose, the fluid exploded out of it and made a huge mess on my garage floor all around the fluid catch pan that I had under the transmission. To others doing this, make sure to watch out for this by putting some aluminum foil or something behind the transmission pan so if the pan suddenly drops and the fluid "explodes" out, it will hit the foil and drain into your catch pan below instead of coming out sideways and all over your driveway or garage.

@@autobotavengerfireballxl5339 typically if you drain and fill, drive a 100 miles. Drain and fill again, youll get out like 70% of the old fluid. Think a 3rd drain and fill gets you over 90%. Excellent video. Gave me the confidence to do the job myself on my Town & Country. One tip from a Toxicologist (studies how chemicals hurt the body), if I may. Please never let anything touch your skin that you are not prepared to eat or drink. Why? Chemicals pass through the skin much easier than one would ever imagine. That's how nicotine patches and other things work. The chemical passes right through the skin in varying degrees. The thing with solvents and sealants is that these are really nasty chemicals that get inside the body and stay. You risk cancer, nerve disorders and other ailments. Gloves, gloves, gloves. I hate gloves too, and they make the job much harder. But what do you do? Your health comes first. Thanks to everyone for considering this information.

On the video you pointed us to regarding measuring the proper fill level of the transmission, the guy who marked his dipstick didn't even follow his own, inadequate instructions. In the video, he clearly overfilled his transmission because the fluid level was above his maximum mark on the dipstick! Luis Torre in my opinion no. I didn’t want to do the fluid change on this customers van but they were hoping it would fix the issue. It didn’t. So after the fluid change the transmission got worse and they sold it. If your transmission is not acting up don’t touch it. When it comes to automatic transmission fluid changes and flushes its best practice to keep to the manufacture service intervals from day one. If you don’t plan to keep to that schedule don’t mess with the transmission at all. Again, this is my opinion. I’m not a licensed mechanic

@@jth1987leb There are some kits available for these that can solve specific issues. Some are not that hard to install, others are. Depending what's going on. I agree once the vehicle has gone past a certain point it's better not to change it.

How many miles are on your Dodge caravan now?
@jth1987leb5 жыл бұрын
Kristopher Hasenbuhler over 100000 miles. This was a customer requested service. I strongly advised against it. The transmission was having shifting issues. This repair made it worse. Mopar has had transmission issues with these vans for years. When the transmission starts acting up it’s time to replace it. Customer ended up selling the van.
@strichards53373 жыл бұрын
Any thoughts why the fluid change made the shifting issue worse? My 2011 Chrysler T&C is just over 97k miles and she's just starting to shift a bit hard at times.
@arthurrodesiler31093 жыл бұрын
I think you got way to much sealant on the pan. To much will break off and get in the filter and plug it up. A little goes a long way here.
@vipergg91593 жыл бұрын
The maintenance intervals this guy states is incorrect . There is very few cars that require 20000 mile transmission service . Severe service which is stated as police ,fleet , taxi or frequent towing is 6 years or 60000 miles . Normal service for everyday driving is 10 years or 120000 miles . Read your warranty book people and go by that . Use ATF+4 fluid only in these transmissions . You must be near me as we bought our van at Genessee Valley Dodge too .

Two very important steps you did not describe. 1. You did not mention properly cleaning the surfaces where the gasket seal is applied. 2. You did not describe the proper bolt torque pattern - it appeared you just went around the outside - one bolt after another. Some would say neither of these things matter. I believe they do. Otherwise I enjoyed your video.

You sure that was the proper torque sequence on the pan bolts? Typically you tighten the bolts in a spiral pattern starting from the center. You just tightened them in a circle.
