Just a tip. Those electronically actuated throttle bodies can cycle even with the car shut off (to control icing) so you should disconnect the battery before cleaning. Otherwise it could take a finger off, according to Ford.

I have a 2013 Focus SE with the "JUNK" DPS6 automated- manual trans. I am currently at 89357 miles, and except for one TCM module replacement 3yrs ago (FREE of charge), I also have NO drive line issues OR engine issues. I would buy another one if, I could get another one for $7k which I paid in 2018 and 53Kmiles on the clock.

@NoneMechanic101 sorry meant to reply sooner. The issue it was having was a code P0010. I changed the VVT sensors on it and the shaking stopped but the codes still popping up so I'm trying to see what else can trip the code

I have watched several videos on cleaning the throttle body and all of them tell not to ever do what he just done which is move the throttle body you're self. Or move it while cleaning it. You have to turn the ignition on and place some thing on the gas peddle to get it to open up it self. So that it doesn't lose memory and kick codes back out after cleaning it.

It’s actually best and not much harder to remove the 4 bolts and take the throttle body off and clean on the work bench. Because if it is really dirty on the inside of the body you are pushing carbon into the intake manifold. I’m not a mechanic. Just an average guy who works on his own cars.

Fyi for you folks. When you put the main hose back on make sure the rubber tab on the air filter side lines up with its groove. If you don't line it up it won't seal and you'll get vacuum line issues.

Yes! The MAF sensor will cause an extreme "lean" condition causing the car to run like SHYT. Also, good idea to clean that MAF sensor with CRC MAF sensor cleaner. You will be amazed at how much MORE responsive the engine will be. Be careful to NOT TOUCH the sensor with the spray nozzle!

Just a tip, on these 2012 ford focus type male sure you check all three ground connection to the battery. I had to grid paint from under it now my transmission shifts nice

The main area on the throttle body thats full of carbon is the other side of the plate. Taking it off to clean from other side is much better and safer. Also reset the pcm so it learns the new idle values or it will take miles and miles to re learn on its own

WHY! Just block the throttle plate WIDE OPEN with a piece of wood, then use a tooth brush to clean BOTH sides. Save yourself a ton of trouble by not having to F**K with the PCM!!!

Use a tooth brush (NOT your wife's) to scrub the bore and BOTH sides of the throttle plate. Also, since you have the air duct apart for the TB cleaning, why not complete the job by also cleaning the MAF sensor with CRC MAF sensor cleaner. DO NOT USE TB cleaner on the MAF sensor! Doing this will keep your Focus happily chugging down the road. HAPPY MOTORING!

There is No Code. It just says "Refer to Service Manual" My car, when I put it in reverse, does not engage, and my Transmission over heating warning comes on? When I put it in drive it just revs and then finally engages slowly. Then it bogs and bucks???

This is just not the way for cleaning a throttlebody. The right and the best way is to pull off the whole throttlebody, and than clean it. Also after that you seriously need to reset the ecu! Disconnect battery for 6 hours, and than let it idle for 30 minutes from first start. And here is some another tip, do not move or play with the butterfly if the throttlebody is still connected, you could seriously fuck up the tps inside and the butterfly mechanism. than its all game over.

Hello Hector, I am having an issue with my transmission now. It doesn't shift properly, and then sometimes it will not engage in Reverse. Sometimes, I just turn the key off and then start the car again, and it works fine. I don't know what to do. Mike Manley , if you have under 150,000 miles on your car. You may have a warranty for a TCM and Clutch. Call the dealer and find out.

TCM should be under warranty . Nevertheless be careful because the dealer is gonna try to charge you $300 diagnostic fee for the engine light which is cause by the TCM. I replaced my TCM and the car runs ok.

Just hit 145,000 on my 2013 sedan. Transmission actuators were replaced along with clutch twice. I'm on my 3rd TCM. Seems fine now... 🤣😂🤣

I’ve saw and worked on many Transit’s which also have the same Diesel engine “Duratec” which have hit the quarter million mark and got one customer comming upto 500,000 and still going strong 💪

These cars are better designed to be driven without having to make constant stops. Driving on the highway is good. Having to drive in stop and go traffic where you have to inch along slowly is not. Having to slow all the way down at a red light that suddenly turns green is bad, too. I've had my 14 Focus for almost 8 months now and I've already had to have it towed to the dealership once. Why Ford would think that people would openly welcome dual clutch transmission is beyond me. And for them to feature it on both the Fiesta AND the Focus, their 2 most popular sedans... no options, just dual clutch transmission.

One of best jobs to do on this car would be to buy the one piece solid flywheel clutch kit and remove the duel mass and throw it in the trash, I’ve converted numerous Fiesta’s, Focus’s, Mondeo’s and Transit’s and the customer’s/Owners have never looked back ! Duel mass flywheel clutches are one of Ford’s dumbest ideas ever and a massive design flaw.

I qualify for a new TCM but according to Ford I have to physically leave my car at the dealership until the TCM is delivered which may take up to 3 or 4 months. Is this something you’ve encountered before

It's only held on with 4 bolts... Why not just take it off to actually clean it? All you did was clean the clean side..... Plus you won't have to worry about losing a finger to the butterfly...

ZSW Royals Good Luck with yours! Have it looked over with a fine toothcomb cause it will give you problems! My SEL has been problematic since I got it. Had the fuel tank, fuel pump, evap canister, valve purge, and water pump replaced when the car was only 3.5 yrs old. Now my car is heading back to the shop again for another evap canister/valve replacement. $350. It's a common problem the the '11 and newer Focus's have that Ford refuses to recall (of course).

This is not how you clean an electronically actuated throttle body. NEVER move the throttle plate by hand. The sensor and gearing on the throttle body will be permanently damaged and you’ll have to replace the throttle body. Also, you should use a old tooth brush to scrub carbon off the housing not just spray the cleaner with a swipe of a rag.

You should never clean a throttle body while it's connected, the liquid will go inside the intake manifold and inside your engine. First remove the part, than clean separately.
