I was at this race with my dad. Even though I was only 7 at the time I still had a fabulous time. Good race good track.

Watching this in 2024, I am reminded of the fans this year who say the racing would be bad if we didn't have P2P. During this race, the announcers mentioned there was no P2P on the cars yet, but they were passing each other all over the place.

I had no idea Indycar had a rule that prevented defending. Hearing about it now for the first time and it sounds ridiculous. It's like telling the football (soccer) goalkeeper to not use his hands to "promote more goals being scored".

The rule is called 'blocking'. There's a big difference between blocking and just normal defending. Blocking is moving in reaction to the attacking driver's move, which is not allowed. Just defending is making your move before the attacking driver does.
