Remember the Pilgrim well...sitting at the dock on Wisconsin Street in Neenah. Back then it was more of a light green color. Amazing to see it underway!

I grew up across the street from the Pilgrim which was docked on the Fox River at the Shattuck residence on Wisconsin Ave. in Neenah, Wisc. S. F. Shattuck, was one of the founders of Kimberly Clark Corp. Fabulous vessel, wonderful Man. The engine room had two 1500 HP engines if memory serves me. You could eat off the floor in there. The Boat was originally 65'. During WWII, the government commendeered private vessels over 72'. Mr.Shattuck added in excess of 7',(I think he took it to 78'),at his expense, and offered it to the Government to patrol the Great Lakes. If I'm not mistaken there was an anti aircraft gun mounted to it at this time. The Shattucks would take people out every evening before dusk on a cruise of Lake Winnebago during the Summer months. Mrs. Shattuck would serve her homemade cookies with fresh squeezed Lemonade. One Summer I had an opportunity to travel on it through the Great Lakes, stopping in Oswego NY where I was born, and still have Family, and down the Eastern Seaboard to Florida. Mr. Shattuck even offered to fly me back before School started, but I passed on the opportunity because I was young and stupid and I wanted to hang with my friendsduring the Summer. I've regretted it ever since. There is a special place in my heart for this Boat. I hope the new owners truly appreciate the old Girl. Shes got Soul.

My mom and dad were fortunate enough to travel from Sturgeon Bay to Neenah on the Pilgrim in the 1960s when Al Waters and Lyle Jenks and their wives brought the boat down the Fox River for another Summer on Lake Winnebago. Al and Lyle were the owners of Valley Marine Mart.
