Wow! You, sir, are a saint. I cannot believe the amount of attention to detail and quality camera work you put into this video. So clear and well explained. If you ever get tired of working on cars you can be a professional instructional video producer or something. Wow. Awesome work. Thanks so much for making this. My front right inner CV axle boot exploded today on my 2011 Rogue exactly like what happened in this video. I don't have the tools or lift equipment to be able to do it myself but now I know exactly what needs to be done and I'll know if anybody is trying to rip me off or feed me some BS. Thanks so much! You just gained a new subscriber :)

I read through a bunch of comments to not reiterate information but I used to manufacture the 3 legged part inside the boot and we called them spiders. Not sure why but the teeth inside are called splines and the reason it fits one way but not the other is that they are cut at a taper. Not flat. On the shaft and the spider to match. Your 100% correct they need to go ONE way. Great video. You told right. I just thought my comment would explain why. I do have a 2009 rouge. Love your vid 👍🏼 liked.

One of the best detailed vids on boot replacement. I do my own i made more work for my self by taking complete axle out unbolted bracket from engine few years back now i know you can break it from the hub that the boot seats with iner clip releasing tri pod bearings. Australia X-Trail T30 boot $23 3 hours labour. Can't believe price's I'm seeing in comments 😮

This is the first video I have seen on KZbin changing the inner cv boot by partially removing the CV axle. Leaving the transmission still plug up with part of cv axle prevents the transmission oil from spilling out. An innovative move but with less working space when installing back the CV axle.

I just completed this job and I must say that the video you made is amazing. You are the man. I am an amateur and it took lots of patience and perseverance but I managed to finish the job. The only issue is that the area behind the rotor, when the wheel spins is making a bit of a noise because of all of the rust in the area. I took it for a spin and that little noise is beginning to disappear. I will apply some car brake cleaner tomorrow and see if that helps. Thanks a million.

Nice job! I would suggest an alignment since you removed the strut bolts. Just a little amount of camber movement will affect the alignment toe readings. To minimize toe and camber movement, you can remove the lower ball joint instead of the strut bolts. A little more work since you now have to separate the ball joint and maybe tie rod too. If you plan on doing an alignment, then I would probably do it the way in this video.

Really good instructional video. Very clear, very detailed. Even though I ordered the CV axle I'm considering doing this instead to avoid hassling with that potentially frozen bearing holder. One question though: Given how thick that grease is, why not fill the metal cup with it before inserting the bearings? It doesn't seem like it can drain out during reassembly.

Nissan part number nissan c97da-ja00k (for AWD, I believe FWD is a different #). Local dealer price was $41 as of Jan 2020 and they had it in stock. Cheapest online price I since found is $32. You won’t get a generic aftermarket boot to fit as it needs that weird profile on the larger internal end of the boot you can see clearly. This video is great BTW. My boot had only a tiny split, and I didn’t need to remove the three rollers off the spider. Finally, the Nissan kit is great; it’s got the fantastic stainless OEM retaining rings (much better than wire ties) and a big tub of CV grease.

Thanks for the very detailed video. Nice to see someone taking time to do the job well. My wife's 2011 Rogue needs this done (shop found it during a tune-up/oil change). I don't have the tools or space to do it, although I do as much as I can to our vehicles myself. Always like to familiarize myself with work that is to be done to our vehicles even when I am not the one doing it. Makes it easier to talk to the shop and helps me make decisions as to whether the techs are being honest. Fantastic video!

@@TortureBot had the job done today by a local shop. They used Durlast Gold I believe from auto zone. Said I needed an alignment as well. I paid a little over 380 after taxes. There are crooks in the NTB service who lie about the price of replace on new axle as well as the cost of labor. They put in 2 hours of labor where 1 hour costs $ 127. All in all it cost me $ 500. Time of replace of brand new axle cost no mere than 30 min. When I wanted to see the old axle that had been replaced because of a damaged axle boot, they showed it to me. When I told them I wanted to get it, they refused to give it to me. But after an increased tone on my part, they gave in and gave it to me. I will now replace the axle boot with this repair kit and will haves a backup axle.
@Autofixpals4 жыл бұрын
Lots of times they keep the old axle to send back as a core. They are often re manufactured using the old parts. if the Dealer to repair shop does not return the old part they get charged extra money.
