Nice BMW, sounds a bit more raw than the more modern ones you normally test ride, and thats a good thing in my opinion. Stopped off at my local harley store today and got them to adjust the shocks on my 48 for me..boy feels like a different bike, why did i put up with it like that for so long. I am a happy chap today. My new Yammi has those time and distance turn signals. I usually end up canceling them myself. They stay on way too long for city traffic. My older V-Star sensed the turn and was much better IMO.

I'm in the market for a GS at the moment, the newer models (late 2013 onwards) are still so pricey so one like this might be the right one for me. Or is it worth waiting (and saving) for a newer one? Big fan of your vlogs

Thanks Shawn for ride on the ole 2012. Them BMW's seem to be really amazing motorcycles. What kind of miles can the older air/oil cooling BMW's run before they are getting too old ?

Not sure when the older Oilheads meet their end-game..? We have quite a few customers that have kept and/or still ride there's with well over 100,000 miles and never had so much as the top-ends pulled down! I don't think they get too old, in a sense that they're unreliable and falling apart, as much as newer technology seems to out date them... I've been doing this for a living for 38 years (mostly Japanese bikes), and I've never seen the likes of BMW's reliability and longevity..! Internally, we laugh inside when customers say, "But they cost so much more..!" I don't think the Germans at BMW Motorrad have ever heard the term "Planned Obsolescence"... Lol! Thanks Fred!!

Hey Shawn, I've noticed when you come to a stop light or stop sign you never use compression braking when down shifting, is there a reason for this? or do you like using brakes only? or is compression braking bad for the clutch? I would love to know which you think is better for the bike.

My Yamaha Eluder actually recommends compression braking.

Maybe how it comes across on video seems that way, but I actually preach to riders about using compression breaking. I always mention when a bike that I test ride has really good compression braking. It seems to be a common trait lately for manufactures to map-out the heavy compression braking in EFI mapping on throttle-by-wire bikes. I don't use compression braking on the last bit as I come to a light or stop sign, because in an intersection emergency, I don't want to panic brake and stall the engine and I want to have full clutch control if I need to blast forward to get out of the way. Compression braking doesn't hurt your clutch in any way. Plus, it will save you some maintenance costs in brake pad replacements over the life cycle of your bike... Lol No, but seriously, I very seldom every have to replace brake pads on my bikes..! Thanks for watching and commenting Pat!!
