( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2012 Volvo S60 R-Design is a Swedish all-wheel-drive turbo charged freight train. With 325 Horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque, this is one Volvo that will kick you in the butt on a rocket ride to Valhalla. But how does the car steer, drive and fit a family of four. We sent a week with Volvo's newest and fastest car and came away with this drive review.

I bought one of these a month ago. I think it was worth the sticker. Very quiet, very comfortable, very very fast. 5 year warranty, maintenance included makes the price more worth while.

I had two Volvos in a row. The first one saved my life when I was hit by a maniac in a stolen car doing 70 mph on a side street right in front of my house only 9 months after I bought it so I bought another. They were both the nicest cars I've ever had and I've had two Mercedes, some Acuras, Hondas, Fords, Buicks, a BMW. I currently have a 2012 Durango that I really love but I can't wait until the day that I get back into a Volvo. The best seats in the industry. Drive all day, get out refreshed!

Volvo has continued to improve this car and it now has paddle shifters and new programming for the transmission. I found the transmission now nearly flawless where it once was a drawback. Steering feel and precision is very good, especially as other brands have gotten worse. Keyless entry and start is now standard in the R design and most other S60 models except the most basic version. It's 0-60 time of 5.3 sec feels even quicker in daily use due to the awd and low end torque from the turbo 6. Handling and power delivery in turns is amazing with the Haldex awd system. You have to be extremely status conscious to knock this car. The main complaint willcertainly be "but I can have a BMW for that price". Yes, but this is more comfortable, arguably more attractive, and the stealth factor is important to many who don't need or want a status symbol. Real enthusiasts will know you're driving a hot car.

Nathan is wrong, if you put it in 'M' it engages Sport mode which makes it shift later but still in automatic. If you put it in 'M' and go up or down a gear it engages manual mode and then you can shift it in the red line.

Key Fob is a safety design, it's so that you're "In range" of the car, some cars will actually start. This system has a push to start but the key fob guarantees that it can't start unless the key was inside the key fob

R-Design implied mostly aesthetic changes to Volvo's vehicles to make it sportier looking. The true R meant that the car was REFINED, implying stiffer suspension, stiffer struts, lower ride height, 300hp and All wheel drive only. The NEW R design does a bit of both, however, its change is not drastic enough to be considered a TRUE R due to the lack of a manual option.

I'm watching this video in April of 2017 and this is almost unwatchable with Nathan's angry antics and the acting from 6 years ago. So glad they do normal constructive reviews now. The keyfob does not have to be in the slot. I just test drove this car and that was the first thing I checked because that would be an annoyance.

I can only speculate on that. If you look at the companies that do have the highest resale value like Toyota and Lexus, that may tell you something. Also a few Volvos in the past 5 years or so have won Kelly Blue Book awards for highest resale value. The XC90 and XC60. So not all Volvos suffer in the resale value dept.

I normally don't like Volvo. But this is a pretty nice looking car. I like the fact that North America gets a power upgrade vs the R-Design in Europe which only adds visual flair. As for the Mirrors, yeah, all Audi S/RS models have silver mirrors as standard, nothing wrong with that... As for the key fob, BMW also has this annoying tendency. Audis (without the push button start) is even worst...

@PHILLE564 Are you insane? This is KZbin. You're safe here. You tell the wife "it's a family car," but we all know that's a line...I've driven the 2011 T6 as a service loaner for my '09 S60, taking it up around 90-110 on the freeway in light-medium traffic and I swear on everything holy that other cars started speeding up because nobody wanted to get smoked by a "Volvo." The R is a machine. Are paddle shifters excessive? On the '12 T5 FWD, yes; on the '12 R AWD, no way!
