Marking the belt and pullies is the way that I have been doing the timing belts on my 2002 TDI. Car has 450,000 miles and still runs perfectly. I watched this video because my brother just bought a 2012 PD TDI, and he wants me to do the timing belt and water pump. The job looks to be pretty much the same, just a few more things that need to be moved out of the way. Thanks for the video. 👍

Thanks for watching and the kind words. I learned it from an old timer mechanic. You can learn alot when you just listen.

just did this job on a 13 golf, my tensioner was acting very strange and kept either losing tension, or it would cam over the tensioning mark when i would tighten it after enough messing around with it, i figured it out but I wish i would have seen this video. great job

Great, I'm glad you were able to sort it out. There are many little quarks with the way Audi and Volkswagen like to do things that are sometimes not very obvious.

hi done mine could you please tell me does the injection pump need to be in time the reason i ask because i watched another video and lad said the injection pump just need to put timing peace in that it helps time the belt. no i have black smoke coming out of exhaust when i put the foot down and the car seems to take of nice and fast but when i get up to 50 maybe 60 km it kind of a lot slower geting up let say 100 km what your side on this. Great video
@willpoweredgarage969Ай бұрын
So, If you are just replacing the belt I do not ever have to set the injection timing. But its also why I show using a drill bit to lock the pump from moving and mark everything with a paint pen. If the timing needs to be adjusted, You will need a scan tool that shows the injection timing and make adjustments until it is in spec. If you have a Ross-Tech VCDS they have a plug in called "TDI Timing Checker. Its a graph that shows where the timing is and makes it very easy to set it to spec, or tune if you have any performance mods, or just looking for some better fuel economy. Thanks for watching, Cheers!

Curious… did this run without a check engine light? Looks like you had timing belt slack on the front part of the crank…
@willpoweredgarage969 Жыл бұрын
Yes, This ran just fine. Belt was only replace for maintenance. It was close to its recommended replacement interval.

Where do you place the jack when supporting the engine, dont feel like the oil pan is safe
@willpoweredgarage969 Жыл бұрын
The oil pan is strong enough. Just need to place a piece of plywood on the jack to spread out the load and most importantly do not jack it up too far! The alternative is an engine support bar, but I find they get in the way when doing timing systems. Thanks for watching

can you show how you did the coolant refill?
@willpoweredgarage9692 жыл бұрын
I use a coolant vacuum kit. It basically pulls all the air out of the who system. Then it pulls the coolant in its place. Ill make a video on it next chance I get.
@Theo07332 жыл бұрын
Vacuum kit is the best way to refill cuz it eliminates bubbles in the system especially in the egr and. Most diyers don’t have it. Then just pour… haha

I can understand the markings...for safety reasons..but there are literally 3 tools you need to lock everything in place ..camshaft pulley, hpfp pulley and crank pulley..
@willpoweredgarage9692 жыл бұрын
That is true, But the tools are not something in a standard tool box. I worked for VW for many years and I can tell you the tools were no always available, or even something the dealer had on hand. Sometimes you just need to find a way.

"Literally". 😅 The man just literally did it WITHOUT the NEED of those 3 tools. It happens all the time. 😊

Why does diselgeek remove cam sprocket???
@willpoweredgarage969 Жыл бұрын
If you follow the factory procedure it shows to do so. In all my experience if you are just replacing the belt there is no reason the timing needs to be adjusted. IF you were replacing the pump then absolutely the timing needs to be adjusted. Aside for that, Leave the sprocket on. lol
@xBusterBean Жыл бұрын
@WillPowered Garage I did water pump as well but took cam sprocket off. Fuck I hate the anxiety lol.

What is cost to do this timing belt kit ?
@willpoweredgarage9692 жыл бұрын
It ranges depending on where you live and the labor rate of the shop you go to. Dealers are obviously more per hour. But, I would put the cost around $1000.00 -$1200.00 for parts and labor. The majority of the cost is labor. Hope this helps

Hello This Is Good Trik For Gasoline Engine Timing Belt Like Hondas And Others For TDI u need Timing Tool Kit To Lock Evrythink In Place after U Remove the Belt Camsheft Or High Pressure Pomp It Can Move And U got In Trouble Don’t Teach Others Something That U Don’t Now
@willpoweredgarage969 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely not, Explain to me why you need to lock something that ran perfectly fine and you are changing a belt for maintenance? If you were replacing an injection pump in this case yes, you need to lock everything and then with a VAG tool set the injection timing. if you are just transfering marks explain to me/give me a good reason why it would change the timing any different than a locking tool? I appreciate all feedback so thank you for watching. If you can just explain to everyone that does not understand why

Terrible practice the bolts on the fuel pump and camshaft sprockets need to be slackened so correct tension can be attained the tightened back up after adjustment just another flyby mechanic
@willpoweredgarage9692 жыл бұрын
I disagree, new to old timing belt will not change the timing of the cam or fuel pump. Removing or losing the bolts will. The video is intended for someone at home that either does not want to or cannot afford a dealership repair or have the appropriate vag 5052 or vag com to set the timing on these properly.
@bEEBO1782 жыл бұрын
@@willpoweredgarage969 Have to agree with Neil. This is the one of the worst timing belt bodge jobs on KZbin. Do it properly or not at all. The alignment tools are cheap to get hold of. This will be tensioned incorrectly.
