2012 VW Touareg TDI 80k service

In this video I perform and 80,000 mile (80k) service on my 2012 VW Touareg TDI. This service consists of an oil and filter change, a fuel filter change and some other inspections as well as rotating the tires.

These drain plug gaskets should work too. You will need to replace it or it will leak.

We have the same vehicle , I bought the dip stick from a OE VW dealer online ... best investment ever .. first oil change I had the deal do when purchasing and they overfilled it just enough to see the crank case breather dripping .. dip stick makes life easy .. pull the plug from the pipe in the front and dipstick slides right in ... Great vids I am following

FYI--when changing the Fuel Filter, you want to drain the bottom half of the housing by use of a fluid extractor. The fuel filter housing is designed to act as a water separator as well. Any water will collect at the bottom of the housing. Not much water in fuel these days from a good active refueling station but better to check out of abundance of caution. HPFP$$$$

Xado oil is very good for these engines too. I am doing 400,000km without issues.

Great video - thanks for sharing. For your next fuel filter service you may want to consider filling the filter housing with LIQUI MOLY Diesel Purge as preventive maintenance for fuel injector cleaner. Any leftover can go into the tank.

I have used 4 approved oils and sent the new oil and used oil at 5,000 miles and liquimoly had the worst results. The best oil for that car is the Pennzoil Platinum Euro lx 0w30 available at adbanced auto parts or Total Quart Ineo 5w30 available also on Amazon. I have also tested the genuine VW 507 oil and it did ok best price I found that in was ECS tunning. I sent all the oils to blackstone labs.

I'm not sure where you got your liquid moly research but they are in the higher performing results. Luqud moly is great stuff , I use Amsoil and Luqud moly in my cars, Amsoil being the #1 and liquid moly right behind

Yikes, I guess that is why proper torqueing is important. I guess keep trying. Worst case the housing will need to be replaced. I am not sure how involved that it.

I would recommend purchasing a new drain plug and washer for it. I used an aftermarket washer and it was OK on the first oil change. That being said I just changed my oil 1k miles early because it was leaking. I was expecting all kinds of other problem leaking oil but that was it. The way I did the fuel filter worked fine both times. Getting the oil level right takes a while but once it is full I never really uses any unless I am towing.

Is it required to soak the fuel filter? Thanks for making the video. I'm going to start doing my own maintenance on my Toureg from now on.

I don't know that it is required but I think it helps to saturate it and keep the housing full. I think otherwise it may float and be hard to start.

Hi my Touareg tdi 2015 start to burn oil, I have too add one litter before oil change interval. Do you have the same problem. And this is normal thank.

I normally do not have to add any oil between changes and I change mine at 10k miles. I do not think 1 liter between changes is too much. My 2008 GTI uses about a liter every 1200 miles.

Thanks for sharing! is there enough space to remove the belly pan and drain the oil without lifting the vehicle?

The belly pan can definitely be removed without lifting the vehicle. My oil pan will barely fit but it is doable. It is easier to lift if possible because there is a lot of oil and it hits the crossmember and can go everywhere.

What size bit is used to remove the old drain plug? Polydrive? TORX? Triple square?

It is a hex. A 5mm or 6mm I cant remember. Be sure to use a new VW sealing washer. They do not re-use well and they are more like a copper o-ring so a flay washer wont work.

I couldn’t find vw 507 in local market so i used vw 502.00 / 505.00 spec. Will this be okay? I noticed minor drop in performance

If you ask anyone on social media they will say it will ruin the diesel particulate filter. I am sure the oil I took out of mine when i got it was not even VW spec so you should be fine. I would definitely find the right oil for next time and maybe change it at 5k miles. I order my oil and filter from Amazon, I have noticed that in the US Advance Auto and NAPA stores have been carrying it in some stores.

What is the spray lubricant you’re using? Is it WD-40?

I think it was TriFlow which has Teflon in it. WD-40 in my opinion acts more as a cleaner than lubricant.
