Excellent review Guido! Your cinematography has really improved with this video! The opening shots and large variety of camera angles really gives this review a more polished look! I agree with your opinion on the R8. It's a spectacular car, but it felt a little more cold to me than it's fiery Italian sister. Keep up the great reviews Guido!

Thanks for the comment and feedback, buddy ! I originally wanted to drive the car flat out on the autobahn and record a special video of that. Sadly I had a car with winter tyres and those were limited to 270. Also: At 250 there was a speed-warning coming on. I'll think about putting more autobahn stuff into a future video. You're right. I just bought the SLK 55 AMG (your positive review was the last encouragement that I needed). It revs up insanely fast and I really have to keep my eye on the rev counter so that I'm not killing the engine. Hey Alex, thanks for your comment ! I would actually go for an aftermarket exhaust because under 5000 rpm the standard exhaust is really very quiet. The isn't enough rumble at low rpms. Makes the car nice for daily driving and travelling, but if you want to drive spirted, there isn't as much sound as I personally would like to have in a sportscar. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer

Thanks buddy ! You need to be above 4000 rpm to really hear the engine, which is totally different to a 911 :) A sports exhaust is a must for the R8 as far as I'm concerned ;)

I totally agree with the lack of torque being a positive. It makes you work hard on the engine and by doing that, you get rewarded. You are a fair journalist. Many car companies should lend you cars more often.

Haha, I'm glad you enjoy my videos and I appreciate your feedback and honesty :) I drove not just a few miles with the R8, I tested it for a hole week. Of course I can shift without looking at the rev-counter as you can see here 3:42 to 4.15. I consider myself a decent driver, because if I wasn't I wouldn't be so well respected as a reviewer and get such cars from companies like Audi, Porsche and others. But trust me: You can hit the limiter easily in this car. Drive one and you'll see ;) Guido

TheGetawayer - another excellent review. Would be really great if you reviewed the B8 RS4. I bought one recently (despite Harris' awful review) and it is mind blowing. I'm the same way. I absolutely LOVE the look of this car, there is just something about it!! Anytime we have one in the showroom I have to walk by and look at it. As well when there is one in for servicing. My co workers will come and let me know if there is an R8 in the drive thru that came in the morning before I got to work. My wife and I both love this car, we even had one on top of our wedding cake (her idea) I hope one day we can own a used V8 R8 with a manual transmission.

On the other hand I really like the shape of this car. If I could I would buy both of them for very different reasons. Thanks, buddy ! I think the round-tail pipes look really great and there are still other exterior parts to seperate the V10s from this V8. You also have to remember that this test car here had tons of options including the full carbon fiber package for the exterior and interior upping the base-price well over 40.000 €. The Stronic is not as good as the Porsche PDK and I personally would still go for the gated 6 speed manual. Lovely lovely car the R8. Wouldn't mind to test another one :)

Thanks for the feedback ! I appreciate it. Well, I didn't experience this, but there is a lack of torque at low rpms and the engine in general is not very loud. It's very different to a Porsche 911 for example, which feels much more powerful at low rpms and there is more sound coming into the cabin at any revs. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer

Indeed, another great review Guido. You formed really good points there. Over the past year, I lost a bit of interest to the R8 because its very pricey and I fell in love with F-type, BRZ/86, 993s, 991s, 981cs, M3 CSLs, Vantage S but watching this review, I can't stop listening to that high revving naturally aspirated V8. I think the V8 and V10 sound equally brilliant. Great camerawork too. I can tell that the shifts on the S-tronic has improved a lot compared to the R-tronic transmission.

Thank you very much ! I really appreciate it when I get feedback from people who actually know the cars, especially from an owner's perspective. I understand exactly what you mean and I personally would always go for a manual given the chance. It's old-fashioned but I missed the mechanical feel driving most autos...The s tronic works fine, but it isn't as clever and as responsive as the Porsche PDK, which is the only twin clutch system in a sportscar that I actually really like. This was IMHO the best version of the R8. In terms of body design. They ruined it with the latest 2015-2016 R8. Too many sharp corners for the lights. I think the base 2013-2015 V8 R8 is the best. Noise. For a daily driver, you're right, in that we wouldn't want too much noise. Yet since it's a sports car or "supercar"...we WANT that engine/exhaust noise. Not sure if this R8 has "driving modes" (e.g. quiet, sport, sport + etc.).

I think the GTR is my favorite car but I love this car too. It's like 1 and 1a between this car and the GTR. The GTR is faster and it looks better in real life then it does in the magazine but this car is ultra unique. It looks like the head of a cobra and I love the look and the sound of that engine. Damn, if i could win the Powerball, they'd both be the first cars I would buy. Maybe this one would be my daily driver too because everyday that I'm at work I couldn't stand to go to my car and it not be this good looking machine. Bravo Bravo Audi.

The 911 is more of a driver's car for me, if not the ultimate one, while the R8 works better for long distance drives on the autobahn. The 911 suits my personal driving style better and I just adore the car in general, but the R8 is a very special car for me aswell. Wouldn't mind to own both if money wasn't a problem ;)

awesome work guido. You should have driven the r8 with a proper manual gearbox. I did and it felt less of a cild machine. Ofcourse thats just my opinion. See if you could get hold of a manual r8.

Glad you enjoyed the video...I haven't driven any of the V10s, I had to take what Audi gave me, which really isn't that bad in this case, right ? :) But I think the V8 is a good choice for most drivers. The V10 plus with all extras costs well over 200.000 € ( the car in my video was 160.000€ already ! ) and that brings it very close to a Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari 458 and McLaren MP12C, which could be very interesting for people that can actually afford such cars.
