14:25 Putting the electronic parking brake into maintenance mode will allow for you to retract the piston back in with the tool

Thanks! Ive seen them do it in other videos I was wondering why he did not do it
@davidbaird5188 ай бұрын
Do you not have to put it in service mode to do the rear brakes because of the electronic parking brake?

Yes he should have put it in maintenance mode.

I was going to ask the same thing seeing him twist the. Rear break caliper piston, made me loose it. Like, it's a great video and great info. But he failed to mention you need to put it in service mode, because if not, you are going to damage the rear calipers
@atown77142 ай бұрын
I put my car in service mode, thus I was able to just compress the rear piston back just like you typically do the front brake caliper piston’s!!!

Thanks a lot Al for the video!!! I just replaced the rear pads and rotors on my 2017 Ford Fusion SE.

Great video!!! A lot of good information. I just did my brakes and my new front pads did not have any adhesive. I got a slight clunk noise a few times when I tested them I bet that the issue, the pad is loose.
@kevinconejo93615 ай бұрын
Mine don’t have adhesive either and there’s a weird noice when I break and it doesn’t break too good, what did you use to stick the pad to the caliper?

What did you spray on the assembly kit spring

Okay, i can do this. Thank you. It's very straightforward and direct.

Honestly, brake jobs, oil changes, spark plugs, and a lot of maintaince items that cost hundreds/thousands of dollars at dealerships can be done at home for a fraction of the cost if you have common sense, the space to do it, and proper tools. Investing a few hundred in a decent set of commonly used tools is well worth the savings if you do the work yourself from then on.

According to the service manual it says to throw away the caliper bracket bolts and get new ones. Nobody seems to do it. Not sure why it says that.. also for fusion sport 2.7L models I'm told a 11mm hex socket is needed on the fronts.
@AlsGarageRestorations5 ай бұрын
I didn’t replace caliper bolts and its ran fine, but I think they suggest it based on the stress these bolts are under and the tightness these have to be at. Multiple tightens through multiple jobs can potentially shear them off.
@Redbullgivesuwings4 ай бұрын
Must be torque to yield meaning once torqued the threads stretch to a “engineered” amount… making the bolts I suppose unworthy of reuse? I’m personally just going to reuse them 🙈
@allnovieveryday4 ай бұрын
@@Redbullgivesuwings reused mine, did not see any unusual stress on the threads when they were out. But they were pretty cheap they come in 4 packs from the dealer so the list price was not as scary as it first seemed (thinking qty 1 not 4).
@Jibberish182 ай бұрын
Probably because when you're tightening a bolt that much, it can basically begin to wear things out on the bolt, especially the hexagonal shape being stripped. Happened to my oil drain plug and it was a Grade 6 bolt.
@juelzsantini5 ай бұрын
Al did you have to disengage the brake system and the abs. my fusion is electronic braking system
@AlsGarageRestorations5 ай бұрын
I might recommend disconnecting the battery, but I otherwise didn’t disconnect anything. I just made sure the master cylinder reservoir cap was off, which allowed for the fluid to got back into that area once the caliper piston is compressed.
@HondaGoldwingGL18005 ай бұрын
Why would you take some needle nose pliers to turn the piston in on the electric brake motor and just put the car in brake service mode which retracts the gear in the electronic motor? Then you can just push the piston back in. You did it the hard way.

This is going to sound ridiculous but my biggest anxiety is jacking up the car. I've never been good at this. I know there are slots for the jack but where do the jackstands go?
@Scubasteve1182 ай бұрын
Finding a solid steel piece to place it under like a part of the frame that’s wide enough for a jack. Pretty much anything that looks like it won’t bend or slip off. You might be able to find some videos on your specific vehicle if you wanna be sure.
@Jibberish182 ай бұрын
@@Scubasteve118 I’m 99% sure I know where the jack stands can go based off of how thick and tough the steel looks but it would be nice if the official documentation can show you a description. Just to completely eliminate any worry.

@@AlsGarageRestorationswish you would of showed how to open the caliber, because you don’t just squeeze it closed like a lot of vehicles, you have to have a special tool to twist it as you push in order to get your new break pads on.

ive never used so much brake clean in my life lol. The end is horrible advice as well, new pads and rotors need proper brake in, normal braking doesnt do that. That glazes.
