This video was a huge help. Saved me $400 of labor since my dad already had the tools. Of course being in the northeast I had to spend 20 minutes each pounding the rotors off because the factory original rotors were rust welded to the hubs. Which my Dad then came out on my 4th and final rotor with a shit eating grin and his air hammer. The only note I'd add for clarity with people new to car repair is that after the brakes are replaced your car will warn you about the brake pressure or something similar because of the pistons being fully compressed. Just pump the brakes with a full press of the brake pedal a few times. This will extend the pistons, reset the system, and give the new pads the right distance from the new rotors. Once the warning light goes off turn the car off wait a few seconds and turn it back on again to confirm everything is as it should be. Then go for a test drive.

Always appreciate a good how to video thanks. If I’m not mistaken this vehicle does indeed have a rear brake service mode that allows for direct compression of the piston without special tools. There are videos explaining how to do that if anyone is interested.

That's why you out it in service mode so they can be pushed in. Also, not putting it service mode can risk your entire system locking up.

Thanks for this video. Going to try it myself now. What type of sander or brush did you use to clean the surface off before installing the new rotor?

Great video. I'm here because about a month ago, I took my '17 Fusion hybrid to the dealership for a checkup (138k miles). They replaced my rear brake pads and rotors. Ever since then, my MPG has been steadily declining. I was wondering if there was a cable or something that's associated with the regeneration system that wasn't properly replaced, but everything looks pretty typical in your video. Any idea why this could be happening? Also, about a week ago, I was driving, and for about 30 seconds, the advanced traction disabled indicator and hill asist disabled indicator came on my dashboard. They quickly went away after about 30 seconds and have not since returned, but it's just been weird that these things have occurred since having the Ford dealership replace my rear brakes and rotors on my hybrid. Thanks again for the comprehensive video.

You don't need a special tool all you have to do is put the car into service mode and you can push the Piston right in.

So there are videos on KZbin showing how to put the rear brakes into service mode. I didn’t

Since the brakes also are used for charging the car, are there any special considerations that you have to make when changing the brakes?
@jth1987leb
@jth1987leb 2 жыл бұрын
Nope. The rotors, pads and calipers have nothing to do with charging. That happens in the transmission. The rear brakes aren’t connected to the drive train

@@JohnnyKarate44 dealership sucks in my experience. The fusion in this video is my boyfriends and has the titanium trim level. It’s like a MKZ. Is your saying your MKZ is a hybrid like the fusion in this video the video will apply to your hybrid MKZ.

You don't put the callipers in service mode before pushing the piston in?

@@jth1987leb right. You don't need to torque cylinder head bolts either. You backyard hacks make me 😂

@@Rotttman you do need to torque head bolts. But just because the book says there’s a way to do it and you find a easier faster way that works why do what the book says. I don’t work in a backyard. I work in a garage. If you knew how to do it why are you here. If you know how to do it better why not make your own repair videos rather that gambling videos
