I was a Ford Master Tech for a very long time, but I worked for Toyota when the Hybrid first came out. They sent me to tons of training on them. I then spent years learning everything I could about Hybrid systems. I then bought a 2014 Fusion Hybrid and drover it EVERYWHERE!!! I put over 100K on it and because of my understanding of the system and exactly how it worked, I was able to get 60+ MPG, with zero modifications! Now, many people didn't like my driving if I was in traffic, but with that mileage I didn't care! I was a rude Masshole anyway! HAHAHA!!! I am now picking up a 2014 Fusion Energi Titanium Plug in and I can't wait to see what I can get on that one!!!
@robertgreenhalge17088 ай бұрын
This is awesome to hear. This is my car that was featured in this video. Now that I have gotten used to it, my routine city trips are typically between 55-60mpg. I was also a rude Masshole myself until the hybrid "tamed" my bad driving habits. This car has literally made me a better driver. I did consider buying a plug-in but was turned off for two main reasons. First was the battery size. It literally takes up the entire trunk. That alone was a deal breaker for me. The second reason is an issue with all plug-ins that no one really talks about. Many people buy them with the intention of only driving on EV and only using the gas when they go on a long trip. The problem is gas goes bad...and it goes bad quicker than people realize. Many Jeep owners have recently learned this the hard way. Bad gas can ruin the engine. So even though most plug-ins can bring people to and from work only on EV, you still HAVE to utilize the gas often. So you pay for electricity and gas, with no trunk, and a more expensive battery.

I don't know way everyone gets so worried about their cars being built in Mexico. I work in the auto industry and after getting to know some of my coworkers I'd rather have Mexicans building my car! I've worked with a lot of Mexicans in the past and they are actually really hard workers and I trust them more than Americans auto workers.
@ivermec-tin666 Жыл бұрын
Why? Because of the horrible experience with VW's assembled in Mexico. It has nothing to do with how hard Mexican's work, or how likeable they are. I do not see attention to detail and craftsmanship as being an essential aspect of Mexican peasant culture, and that is who works in the auto plants in Mexico. The combination of German engineering and Mexican manufacture somehow results in the worst of both cultures being combined in the finished product. I would have to think long and hard about buying any highly engineered mass market industrial product that was manufactured in Mexico based on my VW experiences.

I drove the Ford Fusion Hybrid back in 2013. The dealer was a Ford/KIA dealer. The salesman encouraged me to test drive a 2012 KIA Optima Hybrid. It was night and day difference in the drive train noise. The CVT transmission is very loud compared to my Optima Hybrid. As I recall, the Fusion was rated at 39mpg, I get 40 to 43 mpg in the summer 36 mpg in the winter with my 2012 KIA Optima Hybrid. I've owned it for 10 years come July of this year and have 175,000 miles on it.

The Synch radio system was my first issue preceding the safety recall issues with the car till the Synch upgrade which, was fine for about 1 year then, it could no linger be upgraded. The system mostly still works except my NAV maps are outdated. The hybrid battery retains about 80% of it's original capacity. Overall a very solid car.

Don't buy those LED headlight upgrades. The headlight reflector is designed for the light pattern from the original incandescent, not the one from the LED. Using an LED upgrade in one of those can result in light shining in other drivers' eyes. In fact, it's actually illegal to use those for that very reason. On some cars (looks like the Fusion Hybrid included), you can get aftermarket LED headlight assemblies that are fine and legal - just make sure you get one that's DOT approved.

I have a 2013 C-Max SEL. It shares the same drivetrain as the Fusion Hybrid. It has 191K miles on it and it runs great. The engine maybe has 2/3 of those miles since the gas engine isn't always running and it almost never idles at a stop unless it's warming up for the heater in the winter. The way I drive in the city I get almost 50% of my miles on EV. On the highway it doesn't do as well. Hybrids are great for city driving. I considered a Fusion Hybrid, but at the time I was buying a car for food delivery and gas mileage for the price was the big consideration. Any Fusion I found was $4-5K more than what I got my C-Max for and the Fusion doesn't get as good MPGs just because it's a larger vehicle. I also prefer the hatchback style. If the Fusion came in a wagon in the US it would be no contest. The Fusion is a great looking car, pair it with a practical wagon trim and it would be the perfect car for me. Sadly we can't have that in the US. I test drove a Prius but for the price it didn't make sense to get an older higher mile car with older tech for more money than the C-Max. Toyota holds too high of a price premium. Fords are great cars. I may make my next car a Fusion as I will likely need a larger car in a couple years.
@robertgreenhalge17088 ай бұрын
Glad to hear your C-Max holding up well over time as it makes me feel confident about my buy. (My car is in this video) I actually wasn't focused in on a hybrid at all, just strolled around the lot and seen what was available for the price. The C-Max is more similar to a Prius, which is what I wanted because the hatch style is more convenient for hauling things. I test drove a same year Prius and was shocked at how bad the ride was. It's too bad the C-Max wasn't more successful as I believe it could have been a great successor for the Focus long term if they stuck with it. Now that I have gotten used to it, city drives averaging 55-60mpg is normal.
