He probably should not have gotten the second Kote. The judge with the best view rejected the point, but the head judge, who was not in a position to see the actual point raised his flag just on the third judges call. From the slow motion, it didn't like there was enough contact to do damage if it were a real sword. But that happens in Competition, and Uchimurai was dominating the match anyway. Thank you for putting this up.

the Shinai for tip to to tip made a distinctive sound and when he stuck him inside his guard the sound it made was a dull sound of a thick kote from the inside guard...the one judge that dint give the point was entirely blocked from view..it was the right call.

If you mean the kote at the beginning of the match.. I replayed that a few times and I believe it struck the shinai not the kote.

Randy JP spirit... kiai (those shouts) can break the opponents spirit if you are able to make the opponent hesitant for a short moment it can already enable you to score also every hit that is supposed to be a score needs kiai in order to show that that hit wasnt done unintentionally... overall kiai has a few more benefits regarding breathing and building up tension... i can understand that those shouts sound weird... they do for me too :) mine does sound different but as always everyone in kendo has to find his own

During the clinch you aren't permitted to attack? Standing there while your blade is resting on their neck seems counterproductive

Hanz Flackshnack you want to get back to a distance where the hit can get a point. If you attack at a close range you will not get a point because in order to get a point in kendo, you must strike the opponent with a certain area with your sword. If you hit them anything below that point, it will not count.

@@thesmokingchino1604 So it is implied that they wear armour or something but I still dislike how fighting sports follow certain rules, because realisticly you cant of course just touch an opponent (like it is in sport fencing which is even worse) but you wouldnt just stand there in a realistic fight, you would grapple or maeby try a draw cut, maeby just back off. It is not only the case in armed martial arts as well. At least mma is now showing what really works. I think in hema it is handled better, which is a pity. That said, pretty cool, I just dont get why all the rules

The hits I understand. But when they are close to each other, dancing like mating male deers, that's just looks ridiculous to me. Different cultures I guess.
