In this final video we replace the water pump and some extra parts. The job turned out great and the car came out running great. This was my daughters boyfriends car so this was a free labor job. The entire job cost him $300.00

ok I got 2 questions. 1 Did you support the engine from underneath? if so How? and #2 did you have to remove the harmonic balancer?

Great question. Any time you remove either the front or rear mounts you must support the engine. What I normally do is use my floor jack and lay a 2x4 or 2x6 over my jack head and raise the jack just enough to take the pressure off the mount I intend to remove. I slowly loosen bolts to make sure that it's supported. The wood is because it is much softer than metal and it spreads the weight across the oil pan making it safe from collapsing the pan. If I were removing multiple mounts I would use an engine support bracket across the engine bay above. I do not think I removed the harmonic balancer because It wasn't in the way. The water pump is higher up and not driven by the timing chain. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. I am here to help.

Did you get it fixed? This must be a common thing with these cars. If not already watch the oil cooling unit. Its the item that the oil filter goes into. You have to pull off the entire top half of the engine but its not too bad of a job. Juat time consuming. Perfect opportunity to change oil sending and temp sending unit.

I have a 2014 Dodge Avenger se 3.6 V6 and I’ll be doing this tomorrow. Just wondering how long did the overall time it took you swap out the bad water pump with the new one

It takes a couple hours doing it right. Just have to be careful of the plastic pieces. I went through the hassle of removing a plastic "channel way" that mounts above the water pump. That cleared the way and gave me an opportunity to reseal that area as it appeared to be leaking as well. If you haven't done so already j would check the earlier parts of this series. I show below the intake, these cars have a very common failure of the oil cooler. It's what I originally did this work for. I was already deep into the engine and went ahead and changed the water pump, make sure you change the thermostat. As they come apart pretty easy. Get back to me if you had any problems. Sorry so late.

Just curious why didn't you go under the passenger side wheel well? Did you know there's an access there to make it much easier? Not being a smart ass just asking if you knew in sincerity. I love that you're also pro gun and I've thought about a variety channel with my own interests (guns for sure not mechanics though) and this makes me want to consider it more! 🙂

As with all first jobs on a car you tend to find "a way" that it works and get t done. But that is one of the great things about sharing these with the world, I get suggestions and little tricks like you mentioned and I listen. Noone is a master of mechanics amd knows everything, but we can always open our minds to learn more. Thank you for this and if I ever attempt this again I'm going to remember your advice. Stay safe out there. And btw, youtube take a lot of time, but if you want to go for it then do. I love running my channel.
