I dont get the mind set of "after I changed the handle shape, handle material, blade grind, blade shape, striped the blade and refinished the blade, and changed the sheath its a good knife." Why not just buy a good knife from the get go?
@preparedmind101
@preparedmind101 11 жыл бұрын
I could buy what you would call "A good knife" and I would STILL modify it, because that's what I like doing. I think one knife exists that I would not change and that is the Busse TGLB.
@preparedmind101
@preparedmind101 11 жыл бұрын
I usually ask for more criteria to answer that question. I think Ka-Bar makes the best "affordable" knives out there. Their heat treat is outstanding, as is their 1095CV steel. ESEE is equally good, but it's like you are getting your knife pre-upgraded, hence the higher price. Ontario Spec-Plus II knives are really good, but the sheaths are shit. The Ka-Bar Beckers/JABs/ZK knives come with quality sheaths...usually big, but not junk. You don't have to IMMEDIATELY resheath your knife.

when you spend well over $100 on a brand name knife like Becker, you wouldn't use it either. that's why I like cheaper knives, I can beat the shit out of them and if they break, I go buy another but I haven't had any break yet but then again, you would have to do foolish crap to break a knife.

I really like the fact that you're not one of those knife snobs that think a knife is junk if it doesn't cost $100+ I did a review on the Mtech MT20-35 and think its a great knife for the price and for what it's made for. My opinion is if it does the job who cares what name is on it or how much it cost. I'm working my way up to higher priced knives with better steel, but for now it does what I need it to do.
@wookie_wagen
@wookie_wagen 8 жыл бұрын
I HIGHLY recommend anything Becker. The price point is phenomenal. I have a BK11 with the TDI clip and micarta scales(I recommend buying the micarta scales with the knife). I have chopped down a 3" tree and baton with the BK11 and still held a remarkable edge. I also have the BK2 and have batoned the shit out of it. It is the only knife I have actually abused. I've smacked the handles very hard while batoning and they haven't broke or cracked. The 1095 cro-van doesn't rust hardly compared to 1095. A lot of people ask Becker vs. Esee/Rat? Don't exclude Becker because of price, they are extremely tough knives. I will agree that their handles aren't the best looking.

I have the KA Bar USMC knife and have for years. I joined the marines and carried it , and had one after I got out. However, not I trust my life to a completely different monster, the KA Bar fighter. At first I thought it was too big, but for its size, it has the perfect weight and balance. I use mine for everything! I use it when I go out in the woods, around the property, camping, hunting, you name it. I just love it. I even use it for digging.... yep digging. its quite impressive.

Thats what I am talking about, when it comes to folding tanks, cold steel can not be over looked. I have an XL Tanto Voyager, the tanto is not the best in the woods, but I was still amazed with the limbs it could clear. I will tell you now. You can simply not over look the Rajah 2. I did, and just last week I got one from a friend to sharpen up and clean up a bit... I have been missing out. In the woods it is far more capable then even some of my large fixed blades.

The fact that you asked "Why Jessica" proves you just found me. Many, many videos tell the tale of Jessica, most recently the "Who the heck" and "Survival intuition" videos. But to simplify it, she is a exceptional human being, ridiculously beautiful, and for some reason I haven't figured out in over a year, she makes my intuition go wonky. She is the definition of "Enigma".

I bought the Mora Bushcraft Black two days ago and got it in the mail today after reading and watching a bunch of reviews on it. LOVE IT. Mora's aren't full tang, but hell, if they break, it's not a 100 dollar loss. And the bushcraft Black is awesome. The spine was designed for striking a ferro rod. And I love the black finish. I was suprised cuz I usually like more bulletproof knives like the ESEE 6 and 5...knives like that. But the Bushcraft Black was worth it.

Good video! About the Mora knife... Here in sweden we use Mora knifes as a work tool, it's not ment for survival or bushcraft. In the construction/building industry you will find that everybody carries atleast one Mora knife. They are a very good and cheap tool and are used every day, construction workers very seldom sharpen them, when they are used they get dull they use them as a secondary blade to do crude stuff with and get a new sharp one as the primary blade...when that one gets dull, they old secondary gets replaced. More make some outdoorsy knifes too some fishing knifes, and some forest knifes, they are all in the low budget segment, are very sharp but hard to get a decent edge on once they get dull. For hunting and bushcraft we have traditional knifes that are more suitable then the working knifes from Mora. So...Mora knifes are ment to be used and abused, then thrown away... cheers! =)

AND heat treated properly, like any Kabar Becker will be. As for the Camp 10, I don't like the shape. I'm sure it'll chop, but I don't like recurve blades as they are (IN MY OPINION) harder to field sharpen properly. I was going to do a lot of knife reviews, but decided to stick with the ones I believe in, which haven't changed much. I might give the BK10 another try..

I have the MTech Xtreme Raptor Bowie and this Bowie easily beats the competition and it's Under $100. It's 18 inches and 7mm thick. I have even seen this knife used to cut a damn tree down and afterwards, no dings or dents on the blade. That to me is a great knife. Can't do that with a Becker!!!

Instead of spray paint (which is probably a pain to get back off) you could try using printmaker's wax. A process in plate printing is to cover the copper plate in wax, scratch through it to expose the metal you want etched, then apply the acid or etching medium (with the wax protecting the rest of the metal)...once it is etched you can then just melt the wax off. Just a thought, might be easier than sanding off spray paint. Either way for a homemade etching, yours looks good!

I bought the becker cause of it's price and the review I've read and watch no one seem to hate it or broke it. They just hated the sheath, slick handles and coating, to me the sheath ain't as bad as I was expecting (did have to upgrade to kydex), I'm going to stripe the coating off the blade only and leave it on the handle part, upgrade the bolts to stainless steel, and wrap a piece of wet rawhide on the handle, then drimell out a finger grove at the base of the blade and it will be perfect
