Isn't it nice to see a fantastic blade created with simple tools? I'm glad he now has all the fancy toys to make his life easier, but there's something satisfying about seeing that quality come from hand tools.

In the Antarctic knife video you used all of the high end specialized equipment that everyone would like to have but many of us just can't justify. In this one you are making an equally cool knife, but with much more common general purpose shop tools. In the time lapsed one - only hand tools. Outstanding. You prove that this art can be produced by anyone who really wants to - and also show how the professional or more involved hobbyist can be more productive. Great work.

Thanks mate! Yeah the shop has definitely expanded a lot! The next step is to separate production from the prototyping side so I can do both at once, rather than only one or the other, the current setup has made it hard to experiment over the last few years and I'm working on fixing that!

Aron, great video/knife! I'm thinking about etching my next blade with Ferric Chloride. I really liked the color and consistency of the patina on your blade. I was wondering if you could share with me the finishing you used before etching (grit and sanding pattern) and also the etching process (sololution concentration, cycles, temperature)? It would really suck to waist a finished knife by etching it the wrong way! Ahhahah Thanks again for the awesome video!

hand saw reduces friction heating so your blade material dosnt weaken from cutting due to the grain structure becoming more unstable, plus there a certain satisfaction from making things without power tools

metal bandsaw moves very slow... if I am cutting anything less than 3/16 I can hold it in my hand after cutting with it only just being warm. It still has to go through he treat anyway.. you can normalize it if you think you may have damaged it so.. it really doesn't matter. All my knives have good edges. Metal cutting bandsaws are nice... he probably just does not have one. They are expensive.

This was one of the first videos I watched on KZbin on knife making!! Over the last 8 months or so, I have been acquiring the hand tools I need to make knives. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to make a jig to do knives by hand, before we started packing up to move. I have however, had a chance to give a Sure-Mak grinder a test drive over the summer, and now, once I finally move, I will be buying the kit I need to start making knives! I just wanted to say thanks Aaron, because it was you Infantryman knife that got me hooked! I have read dozens of books, read hundreds of pages online, and watched hundreds of videos on KZbin, including all of your videos! I am so looking forward to being able start making my own custom blades! So thanks for getting me hooked!

+Gough Custom Hahahaha! It's my wife you should be apologising to. I've been driving her crazy with our move, and how I need a small shop or garage. The upside to it all, is that she's ok'd the big purchase of all the kit I need, including a 2x72 and a heat treat oven. I just have to decide if I want to make these items, or buy them new!!

You made kydex sheath making process seem like a walk in the park :). I like it. Can't wait to get the sheath done for my monster of a knife. Great job, hope the Infantryman was happy with it.

Hey mate! Long time no see! I would still love to make you one mate, I actually have knives available on my site at the moment! I am in the middle of moving yet again, back to a smaller space as I did not enjoy having giant overheads at the big space... Looking forward to running lean and making videos again!

seeing that length 01 turn in to a top quality knife such as that, mate it made great veiwing. the infantry man has to be able to trust each part of kit every time he picks it up, you improved a part of that kit because that knife wont let him down whatever he uses it for.

I just watched your video where you make knives for the arctic research mission before this one and it's super cool to see how far you've come in terms of tools but also seeing how nice you can make a knife with only basic tools. I'm just starting to get into knife making and, I have even less tools than you but, I'm still looking forward to making my first knife and getting into this craft.

Oh, cool, thanks for getting back to me, dude. I actually binged watched your videos right after I commented this and, I absolutely love your philosophy and pride in your craftsmanship. I can't think of a single knife that can compare to the quality for this price range. I'm on your email list now and I cannot wait to get one of your knives! Keep up the great work, Aaron!
