I can't thank you enough for posting this video. That back bolt nearly brought me to my knees, but I got it done. One dealer wanted to charge me $150 to diagnose and suspected it would cost me $2300 to replace. Another told me they could replace the motor for $785. I got the part for $116 and it took me about two hours to put in. THANK YOU AGAIN!

Thank you Dawn so much for making this video. I did just as you did (except I removed the passenger sun visor and handle assist)..You mentioned in your video that the screw heads were 8mm....Could not get an 8mm to work, but the screw heads had a T15 star socket so I used a small rechargeable drill and a T15 bit...I did have to use the T15 long shank handle and run it thru the little speaker hole onto the far left screw of the motor.....worked perfect. Thanks again

Your video was incredibly helpful. I also used a torx bit since the walls of the socket made it tough to get the screws back in.

Naveed, mine had magnets that I had to pull away and then I wedged the headliner with med bottles. I only pulled away the front area.

Can you please add the start up portion OR where the screws located which needs unscrew to open half or front headliner?

Dawn, did the installation go well when you put it back together? Did anything leave any marks or such? Did the tilt, moonroof, and shade operate correctly? I'm also worried I might break something when trying to get the headliner down even part way like you have shown, any tips/tools? We were coming home (VA) from Tx from a funeral and our car died in North Little Rock. We ended up purchasing a 2015 Exp and two weeks later the moonroof started acting up now another week and half and it's dead and the local Ford place says the switches and motor are bad and wants to charge $1300 to fix it all and of corse our extended warranty doesn't cover the motor parts or labor... so I'm really upset by all of it. It's stuck in open so I'm screwed till it's fixed. :(

You replace it, then you need to initialize it to make it work properly. Then you need to fix the water leak that likely caused it to fail in the first place, from the sunroof drains.

Is there only one motor for its all function, tilt, slide etc?

How did it turn out? Curious as I had a leak and now am experiencing the same issue. Ford wants over $1700 bucks to fix it. Also they are claiming that there are two motors to replace. It is sitting in my driveway and I’m getting ready to go out and drop down the headliner.

It works, except it doesn't lift open as far as it use to.

There are 2 motors, one for the glass and one for the shade. You only need to replace the one that's bad, which is nearly always the one of the driver's side, for the glass.

How much of the interior trim has to come out to drop the front headliner? I'm going to have to do this on my 2014 and I'm not sure where to start. You can drop only the front of the headliner or does the whole thing need to come down? Thanks in advance

Just part of it. It snaps by magnets. If you gently pull on it, it will come down enough to get to the part.

Smh Thank God mines is close but the sunroof wont open now and I can feel the fabric all on top soaked. I told ford this the first time and they had their body shop so called clear the debris around the sunroof. But here I am 2 years later with no change. When I purchased the suv they never mentioned the Sunroof would need service time from time like smh. My cars is near 92,000 and my warranty up March 13, 2019 on motor and transmission. Fords now telling me expect to pay for the sunroof to be repaired lol.
