( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2013 Ford Taurus and the Chrysler 300 S both have V-6 engines, both seat 5 passengers and both have all-wheel-drive. They also both and recently redesigned big American family sedans. In fact to call this video Mashup Review is a stretch as both cars compete directly with each other. Perhaps the biggest difference between the two cars is that the Chrysler has 4 more horsepower at 292 versus the Ford's 288 HP. So the obvious question is which of these two cars is better. Check out this video "Mashup" to find out.

The as-tested price of the 300S would buy a well optioned SHO. Instead, they tested a base model SEL, which is much less expensive than the 300. The SHO would have owned the Chrysler. And - before anyone starts with the SHO/SRT comparisons - don't. The SRT doesn't offer AWD and costs a lot more. Bottom line, a comparably priced Taurus is far, far superior to the the 300.

@@AriZonaK1DD The Taurus SHO isn't reliable at all, its one of the first vehicles Ford put the twin turbo V6 into and had SOOOOOOOOOOOOO many issues. Ford has "revised" the engine and in newer model years, it's okay but still not that great on reliability, and its not uncommon to see SHO's that where driven hard that start to have transmission issues on top of eating oil, leaking coolant... People don't usually think of Chrysler as being reliable but the 3.6 V6 has an average life of 250k-300k miles and its not supper uncommon to hear of some of those V6's rolling for over 500k miles. The 5.7 V8 HEMI is also THE most reliable mussel car engine you can buy today with an average life of 150k-200k miles, and again not uncommon to see them roll their way past 500k miles if the owner takes care of it and doesn't race their vehicle. And the 300's transmission is the 8 speed ZF transmission Chrysler made when it still owned part of Mercedes Benz. That 8 speed ZF transmission is amazingly over engineered and can withstand almost double the max horsepower the 5.7 V8 HEMI can pump out (stock). The V8 and V6 are actually the exact same engines you see in the RAM 1500 pickup trucks, they are fabulous engine that will practically go forever if you take care of them and make sure to always hit that 3-6k mile oil change. The 300 has some issues with front suspension wearing out around 150k-200k miles, but TBH the 300 is incredibly easy to work on, parts are cheap, and the suspension job is usually really cheap compared most other makes & models. And a lot of owners upgrade the front suspension to something more substantial from the after market if/when the OEM set breaks. But that's really all owners of 300's i see have done to them, unless they heavily mod their car and race then yeah stuff starts braking early. The only Chrysler or FCA products I would avoid are anything that has the FIAT made 9 speed automatic in them or the turbo 4 cylinder engines FIAT makes, both can be found in the Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade. Absolute garbage that will start to break down before 60k miles on their own, paired together & they will start falling apart before 20k miles if your unlucky, & they might limp their way to 100k before having major major issues set in if the owner is lucky. Those parts are exactly why Chrysler has a bad rep now days but the 3.6, 5.7, and 8 speed transmission are golden. Honestly I think the person that wrote the original post is a Ford fanboy that just wants to validate his purchase, depending on the trim you can get a 300 with the HEMI around the same price as the SHO, the 300 is only about 3-5k more expensive new. The Hemi will ABSOLUTELY outlast the twin trurdbowl charged eco boost, that engine really is poorly made/designed and falls apart easily if driven even moderately hard (probably made that way on purpose) and hes overlooking the fact the 300's interior in higher trims is better then the taurus, the 300 is RWD not FWD or FWD biased AWD like the Taurus... RWD vehicles drive better, cost more to make then FWD or that sad cheap AWD system in the SHO that's also gonna break when driven hard. The 300 is built on the same platform as the Charger and it's SRT/Hellcat version's, the same exact RWD system and that 8 speed ZF can take WAAAAY more abuse and horsepower then the Taurus. You can mod a RWD 5.7 V8 HEMI to pump out over 700HP and it still run with no issues!!! Tune a SHO to put out more then 500HP and watch it tare itself apart in under 5k miles, that's 100% what will happen, they are absolutist not built the same. The 300 is a Charger with a slightly softer suspension and quieter ride, its a performance car in a luxury sedan dress... The SHO is the EXACT OPPOSITE, a FWD taxi tuned from the factory to try and be a performance car, when at best its a plush, fat, grocery getter with a little bit of pep in its step.

I've been on the market for about a month now, looking for a full size sports car. I've driven several and watched many videos. I believe you also pinyin might be a little bias. I don't consider myself a Ford, Chevy, Chrysler are any particular brand of vehicle person. I do my homework, driving vehicles and see who all has the safest and best deal for the money. All the videos I've seen, the SHO smokes all the competitors including the 300. Some of those in competitors you been included mustang g_t usesmokes all the competitors including the 300. Some of those in competitors you been included mustang GT'S and camaros and camaros. granted I only believe about 2 percent of the world can shift gears as well as they believe they can. I believe that would constitute quite a few of the wins against the Mustangs and Camaros. But none the less they were there. I believe I'm going to be going with the Taurus SHO.

Chances are if you’re watching this video, you’re on a budget and unfortunately It takes a lot of money to make the 300 fast and most bolt on mods don’t really do a whole lot until your build is nearing completion. Sure you could run a new cam and gears and forced induction but it’s very expensive for a budget build. Whereas the SHO, for example, responds very well to a tune a few supporting mods. I’d say the most disappointing thing about the 300 is that it just simply isn’t as fast as I expected it to be and it felt like all the mods I did made the car “less slow”. I will say I absolutely prefer the sound of a V8 with exhaust work done to a TT car, but when the 16 year old kid in his moms Grand Cherokee is taking off on you at the light and your 300 is struggling to keep up. That’s a big problem. Oh and both cars have potential major reliability issues. Mopars eat cams and Ford water pumps ruin engines. Whatever car you get, get the damn extended warranty like you’re buying a used Benz.

In fact, the engine sounds similar to the 300 S as seen in this video! If you are a person thats looking for an SUV to a van, I would recommend the '07 or the '08 Pacifica. And now they should be affordable for some people.

My god people. This was a more than adequate comparison. The 300 S is still a V6. It just has an appearance package and some very minor tweaks to the chassis and HP output. The only sporting Taurus is a SHO which should be compared to a 300 C with the near identical HP. An SRT8 would eat an SHO. I do agree maybe a higher tiered package for options on the Taurus would have been better.

They test these a mile above sea level with two large guys in the car. It's called real-world 0-60 testing and it's meant to show 0-60 times when there aren't ideal track conditions and you live in Colorado/Arizona/other high elevations. Those 4-banger Hondas would be a couple of seconds slower too with 400+ extra lbs and 15% less air density coming through the intake.

no. The SRT 8 costs well over 50grand and a SHO tops out around 40. They do not compete with each other. Also one has 470hp and the other has 365.

Ford needs some kind of overhaul .Ford does not have a RWD platform for 4 door cars . Chrysler and GM have some kind of variable valve lift technology and rwd platforms with double wishbones and superstruts in the front. Ford has neither of those and still utilises traditional macphersons in the front!! Just an isolated subframe will is not helping the Lincoln brand either. Thats damaging to their sales . Installing the revoknuckle technology on all of your cars is a very good start .

Correct, hence why I was having a moan about the unfair comparison. As the Taurus also offers the same rear seat comfort features and more than the 300s.

Yep I'd pick the Chrysler too it's design is way better looking an it's more of a Lexus Hyundai infinity competitor than a ford , the charger Is better compared to the ford

@VQSeries In that case why don't you just compare the 300 SRT-8 to the Taurus SHO that's a fair matchup.
@jesusofbacon
@jesusofbacon 11 жыл бұрын
taurus wins because the SHO comes in at 40,000 while the 300 s is 43,000 and will not out perform the SHO in anyway. This is a mashup if we are comparing price and bang for your buck. In everyother stand point thou the chrysler wins and it better for that kind of money better be getting a nice ride, and better performs than a standard Taurus. But really if your an enthusiast and on a budget the SHO is the way to go. SRT vs Sho the SHO will win in every other aspect but straight line performance.

The 300c is in the same class as a Toyota Avalon and Hyundia Azera. It is not in the class of a Mercedes E class or BMW 5 series; Those cars are in the price range of 55k - 60k with only standard features, while the 300 is in the 20's and fully loaded @ 39k! A fully loaded 535i will run you about 70k, and that's a 535i my friend not a M5.

I don't get it. I have one of the newer Tauruses. You can't fully appreciate one from a distance. When you're right up next to it you can see that Ford was dead serious about breaking the safe boring sedan syndrome. And the interior is almost concept car sleek. Of all my previous cars, this is the only one my neighbors have ever called out their compliments for. I don't see the 300 as comparable at all. The 300 looks like something from the 2004 auto show. The brickish design is dated. It's a conservative comfort coach for middle-aged people looking for gravitas more than current style.

I agree - the Chrysler is too boxy (and not attractive at all) - The Taurus is gorgeous inside and out. We LOVE our 2015 Limited AWD! Wouldn't have anything else!

Roughly speaking, each $125/month is $5k financed. That is $250/month is $10k, and $375/month is $15k financed, so forth. at 16 years old, you're still in high school and working for min wage. You will not get a loan unless it's co-signed by your parents. As a young in-experienced drive, a very powerful car as your first car from insurance and safety pt of view is not for you. Get a "station" car that can be acquired for cash, and get some experience. By age 22, finish college and look again

They forgot to mention the best selling point of the Chrysler A telescoping steering wheel and a very long seat track. I rented a Taurus and the driving position was the pits. In order to reach the steering wheel you have to have the seats too far forward. Very uncomfortable if your over 5 foot not enough! I've been a Ford guy all my life. Owned many Police crown vics. Come on ford. I can spend 65K on a Shelby 500 and can't get a telescoping steering wheel? No thank you!

Has anyone here had the bad fortune of replacing the water pump on a 2013 Ford Taurus, Flex or Edge...if so look into the class action that has been denied by a judge in " Detroit Michigan" its a $500 job at most that turns into a couple of thousand!

Nawww i wud pick the Taurus ..that car has rock solid realiability and much better resale value plus it just look so sleek especially wid that ecoboost motor! That Chrysler as tested price was 42 Gs and for that price im gettin a SHO :)

Wait till you have to do a water pump in a Taurus ;) Taurus is bigger outside, smaller inside, wtf?! As much as the Taurus looks great on the outside, I'd have to take a 300...

The taurus is a full size sedan and it's even more heavier and bigger than the competitor . Why are people making such a big deal about who's faster in curves or 0-60mph. As a daily driver you basically go with the flow and don't race and all that. Are you all 16 years old ?

i've been waiting for a good comparo between these cars. of course they compete! full size american 4 door sedans. any other review out there wants to pit a SHO vs a v6, but the engine was touted as a v8 replacement. as far as price? options. similarly equiped cars come at similar prices. i say good review!

You could pick up a last gen mitsubishi eclipse for next to nothing the v6 engine is super powerfull and the 4cylender engine is fuel thrifty without feeling anemic. it's a hatchback so when you go off to college you can fit all your stuff in it. Also a honda accord coupe is a solid choice just depends on your budget of "affordable" i'm assuming 10ish grand

I have the Taurus right now, it's way more reliable than the Chrysler 300 for sure, but the Taurus is so boooring to drive... since i love the style of the 300 better and i can have a V8 mix with AWD or RWD, i got to go with the 300 on this one. Unfortunately for the reliability but i like to have fun when i drive and i love V8.

My apologies, I assumed Chrysler, after 2008, would have stopped making cheap vehicles, especially 'performance' ones. While having 110 more HP and 120 more ft-lb. of torque, it's 0.01 seconds faster going 0-60 than the SHO. Mhmm... Could it be the decade old 5 speed transmission and sloppy development all 'round? Watch reviews, the SHO wins in all sectors beside a straight away, and even then it's at a .19% margin-and that's rounding up.
