My father in law and I dive in to my 12 Taurus Jan 11. We are not pulling the whole motor though. Think it can be done still, just not as easy access. All parts and etc seem to be about $500 between autozone, amazon (they have the locking tools ), and local store. Quotes were $1500 to $2150 at dealerships.
@canesser15 жыл бұрын
@@zachc1297 Right on, wishing you all the best in this tedious process and looking forward to hearing how it went from a DIYers perspective. My first video on this subject was from Robinsonauto's channel (this is part 1: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJuwmJSdrrVjias ), he diagnosed the OIL leak (not coolant leak out of the water pump weep hole) and P0016 code when the factory techs had no clue. He didn't take out engine either but simply took the right front wheel and wheel well dust cover off then jacked up from under the oil pan a little to unload the right passenger side engine mount and was able to access everything excep the very top areas from underneath. He also did not use the cam locking tools but I'll definitely be getting them. He also had an itemized part number and price list and think it was just over $500 (add 30% for us hapless Canadians lol). If you don't already follow Ford Makuloco, he's a certified Ford tech and a wealth of excellent information and DIY step by step processes. He also had this to say about the water pump: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGSQf4J9j7Fro9U Been driving Fords all my life, no longer impressed with this kind of engineering and the faulty maintenance schedules for various fluids including transmissions and AWD transfer cases (look them up on Makuloco's channel, the proof is always in the pudding). A) they don't want you working on them and B) they want you buying more vehicles.

This is the by far the best video I have seen as far as addressing the damn internal water pump on these engines. I have done about 5 now without taking the engines out, I've only seen one so far that had just a water pump seal failure. where it will leak coolant out the weep hole. The others coolant was dumping into the oil pan (complete water pump bearing failure, in which you will get a code for the phasers, fortunately customers stopped driving immediately). I recommend Gates water pumps, the impellar is metal and seems to be better quality than that of the motorcraft. Cloyes has really good quality timing components for these engines, that is what I use. It is not as bad as a job as you think, but this design is ridiculous. Stay away from the really inexpensive water pump/timing component kits. I have never tried one, but you don't want to have to end up doing this job twice from using crappy parts.

I really appreciate the attention to detail you provided in this video series. I am confused about the timing cover torque sequence. Stage 2: States to tighten bolts 23, 24, and 25 to 133 lb-in, Stage 5: states to tighten bolts 23, 24, and 25 to 22 lb-in plus an additional 90 degrees. My Confusion is that if the bolts have been torqued to 133 lb-in in stage 2, how do I tighten the same 3 bolts to 22 lb-in, which is 111 lb-in less than they have already been tightened? The stages do not mention loosening bolts 23, 24, and 25 once they have been tightened as instructed in stage 2? I am thankful for any response you may be able to provide.

Who can afford this much cost for a routine maintenance item like a water pump? This video saved me a lot of cost, as were were looking at some very nice used Taurus models. Economically, a simple water pump failure would make these cars a total loss. What kind of management would approve such a design? The first time you need a water pump would be the last FORD product you ever buy.

Hi. Thank you for the video, this is very useful and valuable information. This is very detailed. I have questions, maybe you can comment, any thoughts... so: 1 I have a similar engine on the Ford EDGE 2008 3.5 Duratec and I plan to replace the pump myself, I watched some yuotube videos on this engine and hope I can handle it, but I can't understand if I can do it without a special tool to hold the camshafts?! The logic of my thoughts is that I only need to replace the water pump and therefore I will remove only the first large chain, so I will not need to hold the camshafts, what is your opinion?

Technically, Duratec 30 V6 (3.0L) is the most powerful and newest Ford FWD V6 engine you can get with water pump outside driven by belt. It was last produced for 2012 Ford Fusion and Escape. Maybe this is a highly-desirable used car now to transport your loved ones. The RWD 3.5L and 3.7L (F-150, Transit, and Mustang) are excluded from this problem, since it's a longitudinal version with its water pump located outside instead. Can you believe that?

Goodafternoon, I am helping my friend get his 2013 ford taurus fixed. We took it to a local shop with the best reputation and they claimed it would be a 2 day job. A week has gone by and they claim they just can't get the cams to line up for the timing and its not running right. When we took the car there it was spewing antifreeze, they did a pressure test and said it was the water pump. They quoted 1800 to replace it. They now called me and said they have to replace a cylinoid or some sort making the job much more expensive. When we brought the car in it was running just fine but it was spewing antifreeze so the timing was good when we got there. Do you think this job was above this shops skill level? What are your thoughts on this? We are going to refuse to pay the extra work they have created so I am prepping to know what we are talking about when we go back in to the shop. Also is it possible they installed the chains wrong then started it which I imagine would ruin the engine? Thank you for any information :)

Do you know how much your shop is charging the customer for this job, Joe? =))

Star Master Tech, hehe, well fortunately this a recent purchase under warranty, so the customer didn't pay a thing. Billed cost, around 1500.

I figure that. I made a few visits to dealers lately, and they have lots of warranty works being done as well.

Ford is a mess , I'll never buy another one with this engine type...by having my 2014 Edge with this engine I'm worried about it...

Trade it. My brother's Taurus (Same engine) just had a water pump failure, filled the crank case with coolant and blew the engine with 90,000 miles. Total junk.

Same here , I have a 2012 but just found out there is a Class Action Lawsuit going on against Ford over this issue. can read about it on CarComplaints.com

Chrysler did this with the 2.7 liter in the 2000s on their Sebring, Stratus, Intrepid and Concorde. They were equally crap.
