This is EXCELLENT.. my 2013 is terrible at low throttle. In high it's at 1700 rpms. Then fluctuates all over. Has a big miss and stumble and lower throttle. I'm buying this now and will adjust when it comes in.
@ozborn073 жыл бұрын
And remember, those intake screws into the throttle body and the screw for the TPS are in INCH-lbs (see description)! So easy to overtighten if not careful. Good luck!

Thanks again... I had my tps at 0.74 as suspected. It was out of wack. Waiting on my clutch to get done with the new 1 way bearing to be installed. So I'm back at 0.67 another couple days probably until I can see if I got lucky with just an adjustment.

Issue came back 2 days later after I adjusted the TPS. Did you use a newer 2014 TPS?

Yeah it was set up at 0.67 then I'm guessing the sensor is garbage. But in 2014 they made an updated tps that replaces the bad tps that alot of 850's have. Yes $230 from dealership. I really lucked out yesterday and bought an OEM tps off a guy on ebay. 2412634 is the part number. I've read all the forums and asked questions. This is the permanent fix that newer sensor.

Do you know how to check the codes that may be stored on this Polaris? I have a similar 550 and I’m getting a check engine indicator coming on and off at random times. I was wondering if you know how to check stored codes?
@ozborn0710 ай бұрын
Your LCD will show codes at startup (like my screenshot at :22 of this vid, and then no codes at 5:15). If you don't see codes on your LCD at startup (and your LCD looks like mine), you may need to toggle the "mode" or "select" buttons (I can't remember which one) to change viewable info. Or, you may want to Google your exact year and model for the steps on how to check codes on your model. Otherwise your ECU would have the codes, but you'd need an ECU tuner/programmer to access that or of course, the dealer.

I replaced the stator earlier this week. Did an oil change since all plates were off and put fresh coolant in and also a new oem air filter and pre filter since the previous owner had on a K&N air filter . Put all back together, hooked battery back up and fired it up. All was good and checked voltage while running with a volt meter. All was good so took it for a short 10min ride and ran great!! Sat for 4 days and went out today to start it and go for a ride and is running like crap, won't Rev right when throttle is being pressed and check engine light is on. Code is same as yours...520194-7. Before I dig in to this and get your thoughts?? Thanks

@Jamie: What year Sportsman? Per the maintenance guide, there is a resistance test that you can run on the TPS with a multi-meter without tearing apart anything, but the following values are 2012-2013 specific. To do that, disconnect the TPS connector that hangs down (the one I pointed out near the end of my video). Looking at the triangular plug, per the 2012-2013 guide, the pins by wire color are: Pin 1 - Orange Pin 2 - Dark Green Pin 3 - Violet You can test the following pins together with a meter to check resistance: 1 - 2 Closed to Open: 1000 - 5000 Ohms ± 1k Resistance value should change smoothly as throttle is opened and closed. 1 - 3 Closed to Open: 5000 - 1000 Ohms ± 1k Resistance value should change smoothly as throttle is opened and closed. 2 - 3 Open or Closed: 5380 Ohms ± 1k NOTE: Reading does not change with throttle position

@Jamie: Also, since you touched your airbox, you could also test your IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE (IAC), which was also shown in my video, mounted on the right hand side of the airbox in front of the gear shifter (you have to remove the right handle panel to access it). The IAC interface is oval, has 6 pins, and it's plastic connector has 2 outer raised plastic tabs on the top and 2 on the sides, no raised tabs on the bottom. Looking at the IAC interface with the 2 raised outer tabs on top, the top row pins are left to right: 4-5-6 The row on the bottom (connector side with no tabs), left to right are 1-2-3 1 - 2 30 Ohms ± 1.2 4 - 5 30 Ohms ± 1.2 2 - 3 30 Ohms ± 1.2 5 - 6 30 Ohms ± 1.2 1 - 3 60 Ohms ± 2.4 4 - 6 60 Ohms ± 2.4 Again, this is for 2012-2013, but may apply to other years. I wish I could post pictures of the guide instead of describing them. Finally, if your resistance tests all check out, you could look into this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJu3cph8pbCkp7c
@ozborn073 жыл бұрын
@@jamieduke7633 I think both TPS and IAC tests that I posted could still be useful even if the resistance values are not exact for your year. The reason being that maybe very odd results could tip off an issue. Another thought is making sure the air filter and cap all fit tight, no leaks, which may impact the IAC. Good luck

Thanks for the informative video. Just wondering if you know whether the TPS tool will work on a 2012 850 sportsman and is the idle setting .67 for that machine?
@ozborn073 жыл бұрын
Yes, the TPS tool would work back to 2011 and you'd want to make sure that you get the right attachment to connect to the Polaris style sensor (or just order the TPS Tool package that gives you all 4 possible attachments - my amazon link did). As for the voltage, you may want to watch the following video on a 2011, because I think it may tie to your year too. The guy in this video made his own TPS tool, but the principals are the same, and it served as a reference for me: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6CYkmWbpcqUbpY

Where are you located at I am having same problem with mine I seen sticker on quad your in missouri now will any of the tps work or do you have to buy polaris part's only
@ozborn072 жыл бұрын
STL area. The reason that I went with an OEM Polaris TPS is that I expect (foolishly, I'm sure) better quality than the cheap ones. It's not fun taking all of that stuff off, so I only wanted to do it once. Also, the TPS needs to perfectly seat to the throttle body, and I expect OEM to do this best. Either way, the key is tuning any TPS to the proper closed throttle voltage for your year machine. If you do buy an OEM TPS, please see the note in the summary of this video concerning the 2014 sensor, which may be the best version. If you want to try other things, see other comments/conversations here, as you can also try throttle adjustments near the handlebar. Good luck.

Per Google Translate: Hello, I have a 2013 scramble and it has a fault and I am testing the tps but I do not have that tool that you use, how could I do the test? Answer: If you are seeing Error Code 5201947 on your LCD, per the 2013 Sporstman maintenance guide, there is a resistance test that you can run on the TPS with a multi-meter without tearing apart anything. Hello i have the same problem with my 2013 did you know if i need to change it for a 2014 tps ??
@ozborn073 жыл бұрын
Hi Alexandre. So you're seeing error code 5201947 on your display? You could check you current sensor's resistance values with a standard voltmeter, using the Polaris based procedure described in my reply to Jamie Duke below. Of course, and obviously the point of my video, you could also use a TPS tool or equivalent device to get the exact voltage reading of the TPS (and you also need this device to fine tune the voltage if you install a new one on your own). As for which year sensor to replace it with, please see the comments with Jesse Hamm below. It sounds like the 2014 sensor is an improvement over the previous designs, and the best choice for replacement. But again, you still need to tune the voltage of the new sensor, when you install it.

Hey man, great video. Did your sportsman have any symptoms to go with the code? My 2014 is getting a high idle after warmed up and ran for about a half hour. It’s kind of cutting out with throttle as well but stays running fine. It just won’t idle down to the 1200-1300 rpm. I’m fairly certain it’s an IAC issue. Thanks for your time!
@ozborn072 жыл бұрын
At cold start, mine would stumble while idling, and a blip of the throttle would cause more stumbling/cutting out. The 5201947 code would flash on the LCD during those times. After it got warm, it would run fine, and any start ups after getting warm were fine. I swapped my IAC first (because it was much easier to get to), but sadly it didn't solve the issue. If you look at Jesse Hamm's comments below, the 2014 received a new TPS, so hopefully that means your odds of having a bad one is reduced. To prove that, you'd have to test the TPS's idle position voltage, like I show in the first part of the video. You could also search videos for the "Sportsman throttle fix" to get some ideas. Some of those detail opening the throttle assembly box on the handle bar, to make sure it's clean and operating properly. Also on the throttle cable near that assembly, there is an adjustment "nut" that should alter idle speed. Good luck!
