I’m considering a “radio” upgrade for 2014 2500 Ram. Are these Factory units with adapters, or aftermarket units? Getting CarPlay is the main reason for the upgrade. More importantly, I want to retain ALL my factory controls and functions. You did not indicate if this was the case, or not. I like the factory look as well. That is also a big plus for me.

Yes this is 100% OEM equipment that we program and retrofit to work with older vehicles. This UBD unit came out in 2022 for 22+ ram vehicles but we have found a way to make it work in 2013+ plus Ram vehicles but this is still 100% OEM Factory Mopar equipment.

We should have a heated seats/heated steering wheel fix in the near future. Our retrofit harness doesn't seem to work with the Uconnect 5 UBD, so we're looking for another solution. Navigation unfortunately cannot be added to this radio unit, it's manufactured without navigation by Mopar unfortunately. However, since it has Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, navigation can be performed using Waze, Google Maps, Apple Maps, etc. from your smart phone!

This is a factory OEM retrofit kit. The 8.4" UBD Uconnect 5 head unit is what would come in the 2022+ vehicles. So this functions just as it would from the factory. Currently, our OEM radio has a visual climate bug where the gauge jumps to “Max Heat” after a single click. However, the climate still functions properly. Additionally, the gauge won’t display “Max Cold” until you click the Cold Button 25 times. We are actively working on a fix to resolve this issue. I have a 2014 Ram 1500 Bighorn and it has a 8.4 UConnect but sometimes it boots slow it might take 5 mins before it will boot. So when it does not boot right away nothing works no backup cam, No air, no nothing. The Navigation says Im in the same place all the time and the compass just goes in circles. IS this Radio going bad?

The radio is suffering from an issue with the chip on the motherboard responsible for 3G service (no longer used) and translation of GPS data from the antenna to the mapping. This is a repairable issue. It's known as the Sierra Wireless Aircard Failure. You might find it stuck in 2 possible places. I ordered a uconnect 5 upgrade kit for my 2015 Ram 1500 bighorn 2 weeks ago. I installed it this last Friday. Not climate control, no reverse cam, no Apple CarPlay, no access to any of the features on my truck basically. I called and they told me it has to go through an acclimation period of up to 48 hours. Here I am 72 hours later still no features on my radio… tech support won’t answer the phone and I’m stuck with a radio that doesn’t work… next step is to file a complaint to the better business bureau. I do not recommend buying these because their comparability guarantee is a huge lie.

It's very odd that the radio did not acclimate properly, this might be the first we've heard of where the Apple CarPlay and reverse cam didn't work. I would definitely have that radio unit exchanged under warranty!

@@Infotainment_nav I have this same issue too! I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Tradesman which had an RA1 from factory. Installed the included climate control module > installed the new UBD > installed the GenieMAX Climate Control Regulator > used the bypass module and OBDgenie to reprogram which comes up with a green light and honks the horn. (Radio reboots and shows FIAT?? Then it boots with the basic UConnect logo.) However, upon connecting a phone wirelessly over BT, I'm not getting any sort of Apple Carplay option coming up (tried another iPhone too!). Nor am I getting the option to control Climate, but I can change between the vents by my feet and windshield using the new buttons on the bezel, but I can't get it to blow from the vents on the dash since the button is in the climate control option on the screen which is non-existent. Do we need to apply any sort of FW upgrade?

I'm interested to this upgrade for my 2016 1500 (a Laramie Longhorn with a Diesel engine!), but my original OEM radio has HD radio included in, which I found sometimes very useful, mainly to catch some AM feeds (into FM subchannels) that I have a harder time to catch on. Does this have HD radio available? And if not, why? (That might prevent me to buy it, despite the rest of the improvements available compared to my original radio)

This radio does not feature HD radio unfortunately. Typically HD radio is only found on Uconnect models that feature built in navigation. However, even though HD radio isn't a feature, you may be able to use the iHeart Radio CarPlay/Android app to tune into those specific stations not available without HD radio, but I do not know if AM is available through iHeart Radio.

I need to upgrade my current set up. I have a 2013 Ram 2500. It has the smallest radio screen that has a back up camera and xm in it. I want to upgrade to the 8" screen. I don't necessarily need Android Auto but might be nice, but it's really like to add steering wheel controls for the radio. I will probably go with the company that can help me put together a "kit" with these things and all the necessary hardware needed to make this simple, work good and look good. Can you help?

Absolutely. This upgrade is still having a few bugs worked out with the climate showing properly on the screen. I just got it. It was an easy install and worked great at first but I turned off my truck for a little bit and when I started it up again. The whole system looked different from before and backup camera and climate control’s disappeared and Apple CarPlay stopped working

We would not sell it that way for any reason. We do not sell the harnessing on its own for any of our kits. If the price is a bit too high to do the full kit you may want to consider going with an aftermarket part as opposed to OEM. We put a lot of effort into making sure this upgrade has no issues and has all the correct equipment sourced based on the Vin and we have found that piecing these upgrades together part by part has a very high failure rate. We recommend going with our full kit or checking out something aftermarket as aftermarket equipment is much more a la carte friendly.

‘13 Ram 1500 with RA1 and sat radio but no microphone, Ordered the UBD with aftermarket mic and a backup camera. I got 2 “adapter harness. One to add the camera to a RA2 or better (with the camera RCA’s). Then another adapter to go from the factory connection to the UBD. But it has no camera RCA’s. So I have to run 2 adapters, should I have been sent the UBD harness with the RCA’s like in this video?? Not to mention the first harness (ra2-ra4 with RCA’s) did not have the mic leads terminated in a plug just 2 loose wires that didn’t match the mic 3wire plug. All other connections look good, just have no install it yet because of the connection issues. And really don’t want to use 2 adapters if only one is necessary.

Hi there, The 1500 DS is the considered the 2013-2018 RAM 1500's and the 2019-2024 RAM Classic 1500's. Your 2014 1500 is considered a DS. The New Body RAM 1500's are DT. This will work, but please view the "Things to know" on this product listing. There are a few kinks that we're working out and are almost completed. Right now we're fixing an issue where the temperature may appear in Celsius as opposed to Fahrenheit.

Uconnect 5 is a hardware upgrade. This upgrade offers wireless Apple Carplay/Android auto functionality. The note means that you will no longer be able to access Apple Carplay/Android auto by plugging in via USB. The reason being is that Uconnect 5 offers Bluetooth Apple Carplay/Android auto. So plugging the phone in for that functionality is not necessary. The USB media hub will still supply power.

I just finished installing the Uconnect 5 ubd retrofit. When I ordered, I was told the climate bug was fixed but I can only see the temperature in Celsius not Fahrenheit. Is there a fix for this? Why is that not in your “things to know?” Will the USB media hub ever be fixed to play music via a USB drive? There was also a dark red facra cable from the RAM 1500 that could not be connected to the new head unit. I presume that to be the cable for uconnect emergency connections and customer service. Will that ever be connected? How about SeriusXM travel app. The original unit had that. Why is this missing?

We are still working out the kinks with this. Some vehicles are working perfectly in Fahrenheit, and some are stuck on Celsius. Unfortunately you're experiencing the Celsius. This is going to be corrected with the GENIE MAX and we'll be exchanging that module on the harness with the updated one. As for the USB media hub, we've figured out the bit values that need to be adjusted with the GENIE MAX module, but we're getting that tested with multiple vehicles to make sure that it works for certain. We're planning on having both fixes done prior to the exchange we'll set up for you. The dark red fakra (usually it's a burgundy/purplish color) is for the 4G network and Uconnect Services and SOS. The UBD factory would be using a separate telematics module, rather than the 4G antenna. There's not really a way to add that telematics module at this time, and if it was, there's a LOT of hoops that need to be completed with Uconnect and the Dealership to make it work. The Sirius XM travel app is also only available with radio units that have factory navigation that is separate from the Carplay/Android Auto feature. Since the UBD is a non-navigation model, that feature will not be available. We apologize for the experience so far, but we are actively working on getting this working perfectly!

So the vehicle is single zone, but the bezel is dual zone. What occurs there is that the passenger controls won't operate properly. In the climate/comfort screen you would just check the box for "Sync" and just use the driver's side controls and both slider bars will match what it's changed to on the driver's side. Essentially you would not use the passenger side buttons whatsoever.

I have a bug where heat buttons don’t register on the display as if the temp range was larger. I think there are 7 or 8 heat settings but I need to press 14-15 times to Max it out.

Mr Doug, excellent equipment. However it is one thing wrong in this video, the usb hub in the between the seats console, it won’t fit. That part is for a Jeep console. I believe you have the Jeep console so we can use the one for the radio, otherwise that part will be hanging inside that console. That’s the reason I did not buy this upgrade yet.

If you take a look at the 3:40 - 5:14 mark in this video it details the installation of the Hub and it shows that it does clip in and is not hanging and fits snugly in that console. I may be misunderstanding your concern but we have not had any issues with the hub or the hub connection so far.

The UBD unfortunately doesn't appear to have any themes to select from for custom back grounds and color schemes. But you can customize the layout of the widgets. Uconnect WiFi requires Uconnect Services (Sirius Guardian) which would require additional hardware and programming to the vehicle. We state in the "Things to Know" that those features will not be gained with this radio due to the additional hardware requirements.

The camera kit will work with this radio, however, there aren't provisions for adding side cameras to the mirrors. You're referencing what would probably be the 360, Surround View Camera.. I am unsure if there is a way to add that to RAMs that are NOT the new body style. Reason being, when the 360 camera came out in RAM, it was only in the new body trucks, and those trucks come with a CVPM (Central Vision Processing Module). That's where all the cameras feed to in order to get them all to the radio. So far, I have not seen anyone successfully retrofit that into the 2013-2018 RAM trucks. If you're just looking to add additional cameras, www.navtv.com might have a multi-camera harness that has a module that force-feeds the camera by pressing a certain button, and you can add cameras that way.

Even though there’s a “visual climate glitch” will I still have control over the temperature? Or when it’s going max either up or down it’s actually maxing out? And is there an estimated time of when it’ll get fixed?

Absolutely, The screen is just jumping to max heat or max cold by the tap of the button once for heat or cold... but the air flow is not matching that, which is good. Essentially you'd just be tapping the temp up until you get the desired heat, or tapping temp down to get the desired coolness and ignore what the screen is saying. We actually have fixed this now. We include a different harness with a module that translates that temp reading with this kit. The fix was finished a couple of weeks ago.

Absolutely, however, since you have an RA1, (The digital clock display radio) you may need two additional parts. One is a microphone for the bluetooth hands free, and the other would be an XM/GPS antenna. Please call our sales team for more information!
