Haha, of course the V6 wasn't going to outgun the QX56, it's down 120 cubic inches, 95 hp, and 134 lb-ft. I liked the review, just too much emphasis if a naturally aspirated, base V6 truck was going to be faster than the V8 powered QX. They can't all set the record :) That being said, I love seeing the variable valve and cam timing come in at 3700 rpm, night and day difference there.
@andrucho11 жыл бұрын
Can you guys specify the axle ratio of the truck? 3.21 can only tow up to 4500lb and 3.55 can go up to 6500lb. They usually come with the 3.21 ratio.
@alt66025 жыл бұрын
Yeah, same thing I was wondering 3:21 per J1 4,150 and 3:55 5,850. I'm wiling to bet they had the 3:21 - there was a mix up with rear specs on window stickers in 2013. I picked up a used 2013 in 2016 with 10k miles. 2018 thinking about maybe running the 20's - the service manager didn't even realize they were running 20's with the 3.6L or that they put the 3.6l in a Rebel with 3:92 Needless to say, his eyes bulged, thinking in the back of head a 3.6L doing all that. The other spoofs about the 2013 it has the 8HP45 trans. 2014 they dropped the improved 845RE, they added a couple more clutches, another spring for better tranny flow, smother shifts. 8HP45 is rated for 330lbs of torque, but I always wonder why they added the extra clutches. Of course you won't get this info from the steelership. So when I run my 20's, I knock 1,000lbs off my towing, just to be safe. And here, were supposed to get a good idea of what these trucks can do - and once again half ars'd if that. I still have mine at 45k - I'm impressed I pass both the bank and gas stations. Ticks me off about the 2019's your forced to get that start stop with the 3.6L.

It does look scary. But they do run hot by design. The newer ones have recalibrated gauges. Mine rarely goes ever so slightly over half even towing a few thousand pounds, and when it does spike the fan comes on, and the temp pulls right back down. That truck probably got into the upper 230's which is perfectly safe for a pentastar , but was probably about start going down as the fan did its job.

In the last two years I have owned a 2013 pentastar with 8 speed and 2014 Hemi with 8 speed. It is only a difference of about 2 mpg. The Hemi has 100 more horsepower and is rated to tow twice the weight. The reason I had to go through trucks is because at only 20,000 miles the pentastar was running at 240 degrees, 3/4 hot on the guage and when towing just two quads I had to put the heater on to keep it from overheating. According to RAM engineers it was reported to me that the pentastars are supposed to do this. GET the HEMI with the 8 speed.Way better truck for about the same price.

BRUCE LEE The problems I had with the engine overheating were when sitting in traffic, driving on mountain grades, and when towing 2,000-3,000 pounds. We are talking 240 degrees or so. The dealer tried to change the fans, change the thermostat, and they re-flashed the computer. The problems continued. The dealer confirmed that there were definitely issues but could not figure out how to fix it. In my research on Chrysler and RAM forums and multiple web browser searches I found multiple different complaints about overheating and the heads warping. I think I was probably having the same problems from would I could figure out. I feel it is an issue that comes up but not often enough for a recall. You'll probably be fine with the Pentastar but the Hemi is just so much more truck for just a little more money in my opinion. The 8 speed is the biggest advantage for both of them when it comes to the MPG's.
@RETIREMESOON9 жыл бұрын

@wsc3111 жыл бұрын
Hardly a surprise. The Ram is down 24% on horsepower and 35% on torque to the Nissan. The 0-60 time is 30% longer for the Ram so it could be considered a statistical dead heat. Except for the Nissan costing up to twice as much which makes it a win for Ram. If heavy towing is in your future the V8 or diesel would be a good choice and still not approach the price, or butt-ugliness, of the Nissan.

The Pentastar is a great engine, would be fantastic if they brought the Dakota back and kept it small like the original (not bloated like the new Colorado/Canyon.) The Ram needs more power, I think they should take a page from GM and design a 5.7 Hemi with 2 less cylinders, making a 4.3 Hemi V6. It'd make more torque and at lower rpm, perfect for a fleet/work truck. I'm a fan of the Ram 1500 but the Pentastar is too much of a rev-happy car engine for a work truck, I'd go with a Silverado Ecotec3 V6 if I needed a V6 work truck.

leadnsteel People think v6s are more fuel efficient. That is until they are placed into a truck and tuned accordingly. I'm quite fond of Chrysler's six cylinder engines. They're reliable and have good power. But I'd rather have a v8. However, I would love a slant six. I don't like Ford's Ecoboost. Just make a better v8. Chrysler did. When they redid the Ram in 1994, all the engines improved in power, performance, and fuel economy. A 1992 5.9l v8 might get 12-15 mpg on the highway, but a 1995 could see 16-20 mpg. 6 cylinder engines are just a trend. Hell, some v12s get 20 or better on the highway. The v8 will rise again.

The only engines that should be in trucks are inline 6's. You simply cannot get the same low-end torque, simplicity of design, and longevity out of a V8, no matter what. There is a reason why Ford's 300 i6 is rated Ward's 4th best engine of all time, and the Cummins 12v inline 6 turbo diesel in ranked number 7. If you wanna go fast, buy a V8, they sell them in sports cars. If you plan to work/tow at all with a truck though, it's gotta be inline 6. Just my opinion lol.

The v6 Ram is nice if you drive it to work everyday and want good MPG and ability to tow small things. Buy the truck you need for your lifesyle.

Maybe it's just me, but I think putting v6, esp ones as small as the rams put in their trucks, is pointless. I've had nothing but ram trucks and I've the 3.6, the 4.7 and now the hemi. I got the same fuel economy as the 3.6 but more power. Hemi can be hard on gas, but torque is much better. The 4.7 were the best to me as far as having v8 power with decent fuel economy

Wow look at that temp gauge go up and up.... Another 20 seconds and it would have over heated...lol what a joke
@terryeibeck67357 жыл бұрын
Michael Reece For 1 the temperature gauge never even reached 3/4? # two that motor is one of the most bulletproof Motors on the market. They test that motor running it at 6500 RPMs for 24 frickin hours Non-Stop!

I never understood why anyone would want a V6 in a full size truck especially and ext cab too
@tallll707 жыл бұрын
Actually it's nice if you don't load it too much , it gets 25mpg with 8 speed these days. So it's for people who want to get big truck cheaper with better mpg if they just use for small house use.

Try pulling more than short distance. Even the slightest hill and it bogs down. Can't keep highway speed even empty. Get in mountains and forget it, stay to the right a let everyone pass.

I don't think I would worry about the engine pulling it. I would worry more about the transmission.
@kens97sto1719 жыл бұрын
george50 Nah... It has a ZF 8 speed. I THINK... could be wrong. If it is it's one of the best transmissions in the world. Same trans is behind engines making WAY more power. Mercedes, Rolls Royce, all run ZF units. It seemed to me this particular truck has a really tall axle ratio... also this was a tradesman truck model.. a BASE. I think they run tall gears because reality is most tradesman construction workers are not really putting that much weight in it or behind it. Just regular stuff inthe bed, and lots of abuse.. Good basic work truck.

Crap engine , phaser and cam problems and Chrysler weasels out of warranties, scum bag company and dealers. ...👎 ask me how I know. I leased new with intention to buy out and it broke before warranty . 5x traction off and engine light cuts power to gas pedal. Never fixed under warranty. Like I said scumbags they are. .
