I really want to thank you for this important information !!! I had my MB Tech look at my 61k mile wonderful fabulous 2013 SL63 and he found a tiny bit of oil and changed the sensors. NO DAMAGE ! I also asked him about the timing chain . He said it was fine because I change my oil every 2-3k miles. Thank you again for saving me lots of $$$ ! Keep up the good work!

I'm late but this is an excellent review. This owner is very insightful towards the SL mission as a dedicated roadster platform making it the last true SL. I'm impressed how Mercedes cut +200lbs of weight yet still enlarged the SL from the prior R230 generation. My goodness the way it handled the exit at 10:45 completely flat was pleasing to see with zero lean. My only question is how did the owner get the CarPlay function on this 2013 model when it didn't come out until 2017?

Thank you for chiming in. Yes, the owner is passionate about his car and the car deserves it 😎 The CarPlay module was retrofitted. There are many adapters online that plug right to the back of the head unit and enables it.

I just got a 2013 SL 63 AMG back in October 2023. I checked all 4 sensors and are very clean. This car is Fast I love it

I just sold my Z3M roadster & replaced it with a low mileage R231 SL500 in hyacinth red with cream leather. Not the SL63 admittedly. But not much less power or performance. It's more than enough. In fact I'm in awe of it. The fact it takes an extra 200 or 300 milliseconds to reach the legal speed limit compared to the AMG 63 is immaterial. 0 - 60 in 4.5 is fine with me. I'm loving it to bits. I considered an SLK55. But they're almost as expensive. A great little V8 roadster, but less car for the money. SLK55 £55k new compaired to SL500 £85k new, but only £3 or £4k more second hand for the SL. And it's an almost all aluminium engineering masterpiece. With the SLK the engine felt special. With my SL500 the whole car feels special.

I remember people didnt like it... But the 63 looks more beastly, and I had a 2018 which people would take pictures of.. it had the new front end etc.. They are faster than most know, absolute weapon on the highway. mine was running mid 11 quarter mile at 126 mph, and they dont even launch very well.. if they did Im sure it would run very low 11's..........facelift was 2017, transmission remained the 7 speed in the SL63, but was 9 speed in the 450 and 550 models. (im in canada)

those cam sensors are notorious for failing. If anyone buys this car i recommend them to change all four sensors if they havent been changed already. such a huge repair nightmare.

What is the rough cost to replace them before the potential issues?

It’s definitely an amazing machine that can be driven daily. There are sportier AMGs but not all can be enjoyed everyday.

Performance package has 557 hp and 664 pound feet of torque ,Carbon package shows you it has the preformance package.And the way they rate horsepower does not mean diiferent power in different parts of the country .Gets your facts straight .

This particular car doesn’t have the performance package. Also, I didn’t say it had different hp in different parts of the country. I hp was different in different countries due to different ECU tuning. In some countries that’s done because of the tax implications.

at those temps you will never get good 0-60 times, best I got was with michelin 4S tires, 3.66 seconds.. but again they will lose traction even under ideal conditions.

So … they told you that the cam sensors didn't need changing … and then it failed, and you paid out $5,000 out of pocket, on a $14,000 repair. Sounds like they saw you coming!

Aftermarket CarPlay adapter. It’s relatively easy to install yourself but the owner hired a shop to do that.
