Like most of us have known before, by far the biggest damage to the battery is leaving it at 0% for long time, leaving it at 100% is much less damaging , especially since car drains slightly over time, so it won't be "full" all the time it was left. But with 0% it can actually eat up the buffer and fully kill the battery, not only degrade.

Exactly, especially since 100% is never true 100%, but with 0% and still some drain it can indeed cause irreversible damage to the cells.

Wild how time has passed. I found your channel long after MF was around but you were still doing nimber trips. I got curious and looked back at history and I was looking at Model 3 details at beginning of 2018. March 17, 2018 I noticed your channel with trip to California looking at Model 3. Few weeks later I put a reservation in for my first Tesla. Your road trips with MF and all the educational videos really sold me on getting an EV but mostly Tesla. Soon after you started testing other cars. I am glad to see the switch into full TeslaBjørn Test Mode. Sadly my first Tesla is gone, sold today at salvage auction for $5500. I can't say I feel horrible about it as not as much time had past or had as many challenges as MF. But I expect it's about the same. I hope someone rebuilds Midnight Glitch and continues on. Other than being partly disassembled and quarter panel damage he was in very good condition. I have some hope anyway. Edit note: It also had been at 0% and dead 12v for 2 months so good luck for not having more degradation. I measured about 10%. Being a salvage title won't allow supercharging anyway.

Surely letting it sit at 0% has caused this. On the bright side, even after 10 years and so many kilometers it still has plenty of useful battery capacity left which goes to show that even if you abuse the battery, EV batteries will still last the lifetime of the car.

10 years is not a lifetime of a car ("Average lifespans of cars vary from 8.0 to 35.1 years, with a mean of 18.1 years in Western and 28.4 years in Eastern European countries"). I have serious doubt that it will work for another 10-20 years. It will not be a problem for the first buyer, but for the not-so-lucky people who can't afford new cars. At this point we need easily replaceble and repairable batteries (idealy with replacable modules or even cells). Unfortunately quite the opposite what Tesla is going for.

@@petrkubena 28 years old cars in eastern Europe were built 1995. They didn't have infotainment with touch screens. Let alone touch screens that are vital for their operation. No processor controlled, electric power steering, no active dampers, etc. Only the cheapest of todays cars, EV or combustion, are simple enough to not become bottomless money pits long before most EV batteries will wear out. With EV technology, unlike combustion, it would be possible to make cars that could be remanufactured rather than recycled after, say, 20 years to last another 20 years, with all the latest gimmicks. However, before that happens, a lot needs to change in the way our society works and what we prioritise. Tesla, unfortunately, not only leads the way to sustainable energy and électrification but also to disposable cars.

Considering this 4 year older, first mass produced ev, from a brand new car company, is so much more advanced and more efficient, even though the Tesla has far more power and size, is just amazing. I’m a later arrival to the channel it appears - the first Teslabjorn video I watched was after I started looking in KZbin for EVs being used offroad…………. The video you made of you trying to drive a Model X (Optimus Prime?) through between some trees in a wood and it “fell” into a hole, got stuck and you damaged the front trim of the car quite badly extracting it again. I’ve enjoyed most of the videos and live streams I’ve watched since. I think you have succeeded in putting me off ever buying one of the Chinese brand of EV’s with their poor software and continuous bing bongs……….. I did buy my EV after watching your road test and after a 96 hour test drive of the Mini Electric, I don’t do road trips more than one a year and the furthest I’ve taken it has been a 90 miles round trip but I do have another car to use for those longer trips and for off road driving (something the Mini (and most other EVs are totally useless for!). The Mini started out with me as a fun, cheap to run shopping car but it didn’t take long for it to be my go to car for any shorter trips and now my LR Defender MHEV is very much my weekend toy and for drives longer than the 120 miles maximum range of the Mini. I have been seriously looking at the latest P460 Range Rover PHEV with a 36kWh battery to replace both cars and still be able to drive electric for most of my journeys and go offroad at weekends but they are hugely expensive. I did an offroad day with Jaguar in an I-Pace which was very impressive off tar but again it’s an expensive car after you spec it with the offroad bits from the factory that the test car had.
