great video, very detailed and patient i feel i can do the job, what i am surprised is i have a camry and i watched other videos for it, and it seemed way more steps up to the PS motor, this video for avalon , it seemed alot less steps after he dropped the plastic trim cover, so not sure if it was omitted? also, seen a video where they left the PS base frame still in the car and not need to be removed , where he took the whole unit out here, thanks!

hi, I have a toyota Avensis, when I turn the steering wheel to the left and right there is a knock, but it is deaf, not like metal on metal, did your knock appear sharply and intensified?
@richierock1300Ай бұрын
If you turn the steering wheel back-and-forth and you look at the shaft down below and it’s not moving the same then it’s that $10 piece of rubber inside the column

hi, this looks like one massive project to just replace some plastic... can I ask, what would happen if you continue to drive without replacing this? will it cause more damage? also, do you recommend doing and replacing this by yourself or bring it to the mechanic to do?
@richierock130010 ай бұрын
Very sloppy steering and probably start to damage the the shafts then have to replace completely $$$$

i just did this repair to my camry i personally would save who knows how many hundreds of dollars and do it myself. the steering shaft is definitely heavier than i expected, but the part that i struggled with the most is removing that damn foot air vent. it was tricky to separate the clipped halves to pull it all out (in 2 pieces). i thought i had messed up my steering wheel alignment because i was twisting and turning it as i was lowering and pulling outward/back the whole assembly. when i went to reassemble and fasten, my tires were straight but my steering wheel was 45 degrees rotated, then i put my key in to unlock the steering wheel it all went back as normal. it was my first time doing this repair and all the videos i saw didnt mention that "error" so maybe its not really an issue. its as easy as it looks, its just pretty heavy lowering that thing, this method is the best honestly, you dont have to worry about alignment issues... according to my 1x experience and all the videos that display this method. i'm 165lb 5'8, had to do some twisting and turning to get up and under there but if i can do it maybe you can do it, id recommend you do it yourself if able. save you money and gain some experience and knowledge, also feels good to know you did it yourself going back to my "error", at that point i lost all hope and thought i screwed something up. but went ahead with the repair only to realize i did it correctly 😅 and that annoying sound and vibrations were gone. i must say, i didnt watch this whole video, the video i used as reference was by @Repairsbyctop

when are they going to hit Toyota with a recall of this absurd problem. Unreal that consumers have to pay high labor costs for a part that it was made to break. mechanics are totally scammers when you show up with this problem. Most never heard of this and some wants to stick you with a new steering column. Complete fail on Toyota. I am one of those owners of a 2012 Camry that could not attempt to do this. Time to trade mine, but if 2024 or 2025s have this little 10 dollars part I will never buy another Toyota. This is called a power steering damper.
