@@ape_man504 I still have my Corolla and it's only grown on me more. I put a strut tower bar on it to stiffen the front end and it handles much better now, along with some of the steering slop of the electric steering now being gone. It goes well with the 24 mm rear sway bar I put on the rear, too. I put a new stereo in it that woke up the factory speakers and I'm investing in getting it repainted eventually (something I would have never done before). So far she's more of a keeper than she ever was. I didn't realize all of this until I recently got a Mustang to drive and have fun with. I had forgotten all the issue you can have with a car until I got it. Granted, it's older than the Corolla with more miles on it, and I don't know if it might have been abused or not. Still, the issues are a good reminder of why it's important to have a good dependable car you're satisfied with.

Years ago, your first Corolla review warmed my heart, and this one warmed my soul. I know from experience that you're absolutely spot-on with this analysis. When I got my license over a decade ago, my parents said they'd buy me a car; and my first, last, and only choice was the Corolla. Six months later, when that 1999 Corolla VE got outshone by a local dealership's newspaper ad, I upgraded...to a 2001 Corolla LE. (I just wanted power windows.) Since then, I've added 120,000 miles to Corolla 2's original 25k and driven up and down the East coast (Florida to Maine) maybe four times now. And when I finally run her into the dirt, my next car is either gonna be another Corolla, or a Mazda Miata. (The Miata would be your fault.) Meanwhile, my little brother managed to literally explode two Celica GT-S's (one engine and one transmission) before seeing the light and getting an old Camry. Indeed, first cars should save you money. A $7500 used car, paid in full, driven for 14 years, mere peanuts for registration, and dirt cheap maintenance? Yes, please. In fact, I'll have another.

So I thought I'd chime in, first time comment, long-time watcher, love the content. I actually ended up sinking on a 2019 Toyota 86 GT for my first car (realizing that it probably wasn't the most cost-effective choice, but considering that after learning on a 2005 Sienna and a 2018 Ford Edge, anything was better, and my job made it quite a bit easier to get my hands on it, so I dunked), though I had been considering an older Corolla for a while now. Biggest mistakes I made were getting it in an auto, and not waiting a few more months for the 2020 model so I didn't have to make the obligatory "let's swap out the head unit with something better" decision. After 7,500 miles in the thing (drove it off the lot with 12 miles on it), I'm inclined to believe that the decision wasn't that bad after all, it makes the commute (20 miles one way) and the traffic less of a pain in the ass, and it handles really well with all the TRD bells and whistles. Will I try and convert it to stick at some point or trade it in for one? Maybe. For now, it works as a daily, it's sporty, and it makes me happy. That's all anybody can really ask for, right?

It's not that bad if you keep it in second or third gear around town. Makes the throttle response somewhat lively. I'm not saying it's *fast* mind you but its quick enough for spirited driving if you don't mind staying in the 3500-4K range where the VVT-i starts to kick in. What baffles me is highway/interstate driving because somehow this thing manages to get 35-36 mpg even though it sits at like 3200 at 80 mph. And mine is 8 years old! It used to get 40. So I just bought a MB C300, coming off a 2009 Corolla S stick. As nice as the Benz is, i just cant stop thinking about my Corolla. I had the thing for 8 years, and it was a care free 8 years. The Corolla is the best care free car I have ever owned. As long as you change the oil and filter, air filter, PCV valve the car seem like it will run forever. i bought it with 50k miles and I stopped driving it at 190K miles with zero issues. The anxiety in my life now with this Benz sucks. My oil change is going to be around $500. My brake job around $1500. I feel like selling the Benz and live out the rest of my days just riding in my corolla

I bought a 2010 standard Corolla S based on your advice! Got a great deal on it too! It’s in great condition too gotta be on guard because nothing would make me sadder than to see it developing rust problems. Toyota Corolla is, in my opinion, the official car of enjoying turning down your residential street. The car of being a happy car owner. A marriage where she’s happy to see you even when you’re both overworked. It’s a car that will last if you choose to last with it.

I had 7 cars, not including my parents' cars back in the day, from 5.0L mustang to Grand Prix to WV to turbo this and that, but when I rented a Corolla S (2018), that car was just very driveable. Can't find a better word for it. Especially looking at the fuel gauge barely moving while driving for hours. It's a sense of being content. I'm not running, I'm not racing, I'm not shaking and not hearing any drone from the exhaust, nothing is vibrating and my check engine light isn't coming on. It's just a very driveable car. It's for drivers with the least amount of fuzz between point A to B. Still fun though, don't let the 130hp scare you away. It's enough.

Ivy watched this video a couple times. I owned a 2013 Corolla S from the week I got my license at 16 to the day it was totaled by a truck last year at 22. It was bone stock, auto, nothing fun, nothing fancy. But it was reliable. Never once had an issue with it. I never LOVED the car. It was just "an car" but sometimes I miss it. I had done a lot of growing and had some important experiences in those years. The person driving the car off the lot was not the same person stepping out after getting rear ended almost 7 years later. This gen. Corolla will always be special to me...even if they're special to nobody else.

If the shifter is underwhelming, look at Monkey Wrench Racing. Not an ad whatsoever, but you can buy anything like an entirely new shifter, new solid bushings for both the cables and the base, and short shifters. I own a 2009 Pontiac vibe, and the new shifter assembly made it feel like a brand new car. The solid bushings are also very good, but have no mercy for bad shifts, so buy those at your own discretion. Also, any weighted shift knob that weighs approximately a pound or so really gives some heft to the shifts

After years of driving Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, Ford, Chevy, Oldsmobile, Mitsubishi, Renault, Mercedes and Geo, it brings a tear to my eye that Toyota and Honda are the only companies making reliable comfortable cars, which is why they sell so many, and the other companies don't get it.

zep head like mr regular said in his review it is a great car for someone who wants a driver car but could only afford one car. It is true. They are cheap the only downside is since it is a classic car you might need to do maintainence and replace parts sometimes.

I own a Corolla 2013 and this is about as accurate of a review I've seen yet. Mine is an automatic but only thing I've had to replace was the valve cover seal and at 100000 miles with frequent oil changes that thing looked clean with no sludge and will give me another 200000 miles no problem. But if you want fast go else where if you want reliable this car is for you as long as you know to change the oil AND FILTER regularly and ATF also.
