The only way I'd get any kind of SEL Passat is if the dealer agreed to swap out the cheap-looking simulated woodgrain for the aluminum trim from the SE. I don't understand how the SEL is an upgrade in this regard; I think it looks worse than baser versions.

Thank you for answering a question i had i was wondering if sel's all came with the wood dash look. Like you i wish they cane with the aluminium option.

I just like the fact that such MPG is possible in the car of this size, torque is good and diesel engine "longevity" and reliability too, and I also think any Volkswagen is a bit overpriced so you have to really like VW.

My name is Kelly. I am a diesel nut. I have listened to a lot of your recordings and they are great. Thank you for doing these videos. Please keep doing them. I am totally blind and can not see anything out of both eyes. Therefore instead of looking at cars I listen to them. Thanks for firing it up. Next time can you get a closer recording of the engine and rev it a little. Volxwagons are quiet especially their diesels and this one was a little hard to hear.

Does anyone know if the Transmission Serial # for a 2013 Passat TDI is readily visible from under the Car? I have not popped the Vanity cover/Stone shield off yet. I am a little suspicious of the dealership. My vehicle only had 25,000 miles that were all gently driven miles yet they informed me that the transmission was leaking and needed to keep it to replace it(it was still covered by the drive train warranty).

Kelly, I'm glad you like to listen to my videos. I like diesel engines too - distinctive sound, better fuel economy and durability sure makes them very special. I wish more cars had them. TDI is just plain pragmatic unless you like bursting out into traffic and need to zip to 70 quickly. I had to learn the TDI loses power quickly when trying to merge into fast lanes on the highway. However, drive the DSG in manual and gingerly accelerate in city traffic, and 44-45 mpg is a snap. On a nearly pure highway run, I was rewarded with 46mpg calculated. I have mpg & room to boot. I luv my '13 TDI.

i had a VW Jetta Sportwagon Diesel and loved it. I now have the 2014 Passat TDI SEL and am loving it. The gas mileage is insane...even better than the wagon and unbelievable for a car this size. in just the first few 100 miles i am averaging mid 30's around town and mid 40's on freeway. impressive for an engine that is no where near broken in yet. this car loves to eat up the highway moving effortlessly down the road at 80+ with as smooth a ride as some premium luxury cars i have owned. I only have two things to comment on that could use some improvement in the next generation - the Nav system response is unacceptable for the price paid. The RNS315 i had in the wagon was a far better system than the RNS510 that is in the premium package passat. And The blower for the climate control - a bit too loud and often has a slight whistle to it. Both things I plan to have addressed at my 45 day check in. Recommendations - get the windows tinted. And definitely get this car in the TDI model - its what takes this car from good to amazing. power and efficiency combined - especially once you learn how to best to drive it.

I'm always amazed at cars that are full sized that get great MPG. And it's true the longevity potential is certainly their. Us with car technology changing so fast and new standards coming up when is the right time to buy?

Our diesel VW Jetta broke down with major problems often. It left my family stranded on our family trip. Their service and quality S U C K S! We are going Japanese. I'm so Sad there is no more Quality in German like the 80's German cars. I really believed in them and wanted to support them. Now their saying should be Färfrombroken instead of farfegnugen. Good luck with yours though.
