When I had my ford police car, I bought a set of the motorcraft plugs and a few of them were off spec. Gapped them and no issues.

@@mediaguy4037 there is a number on the plug that determines the gap. That is exactly the gap it is supposed to be.

@ for the fords it’s 0.54, a few out of the box were 47, 48, 49, I guess I’m just skilled at gapping them correctly, I never ruined any

@mediaguy4037 ya. If you look at the plug number, they are probably pre-gapped at .050. I would never recommend someone to try and bend electrodes on platinum, or uridium plugs. You're asking for trouble. Anyone who does, should go back to spark plug school.

I've always checked the gap on IR plugs because I find many to be way off and never had a problem. I took some out of a car I gapped with 100k on them and they were fine.

@@meblake7359 they are pre gapped. They are not way off, unless you bought the wrong plugs for the car, or they were damaged during shipping. READ THE SPARK PLIG MANUALS FROM THE PLUG MANUFACTURERS. If any of those tips break off, it can destroy your engine.

Ok- working on a Shtzssan 2day. Great! I Might be trying to tackle my brother's 2003 Toyota highlander 4 cylinder timing belt sometime soon. I have lots of tools, but, hopefully it doesn't take any specialty tools?
