I have a 2016 Odyssey with 6 speed trans. Before doing a drain and fill, I looked at many videos but you're the first to mention a transmission dip stick which many newer vehicles don't have. Thank you for slowing things down and explaining. Everyone is a novice at something.

Good video. Thanks for the upload. I found telling where the oil level was on the dipstick to be a bit difficult. The dipstick never seemed to be fully coated in oil. Does anyone find this to be the case? I ran it until the fans turned on and the checked it. I made sure the dipstick was fully seated.

Are there any transmission fluid filters that require replacement during a fluid change on the Honda Odyssey 2014? Thanks!

I think there is. Genuine Honda (#25430-PLR-003) Transmission Filter. Can be purchased from a variety of sources local and on the internet.
@AIRMASTER777 жыл бұрын
Yes there is an inline filter and it's a pain to get too. Next time I do mine Im putting tubing in place of it and putting the inline filter in a more convenient spot. If you take it to the dealer they won't even change the inline filter.
@AIRMASTER775 жыл бұрын
@Happy Cynic if you look at the right side of the motor it is down toward the bottom in the front. It's pretty rough to get to because it's so close to the bottom. If you take it out and reroute the line up toward the top it'll be easier the next time you do it. I had my van in at the dealer for a tire related issue and I was discussing them about the transmission fluid change and he acted like there wasn't even an inline filter on the van. They just leave them don't change them in and there goes your transmission. I ordered my inline filter on eBay for around $10 straight from China.

I have a 2015 EX-L, the light for the ATF came on at 25K. I called honda dealer for the transmission fluid replacement - they quoted $240. I later leaned why. It's not a drain and refill, they use a machine to replace all of it under low pressure, not just the 4 quarts that drain. The oil itself for the whole replacement is well over $100.
@Keeperexpert8 жыл бұрын
I may surprise you, but Honda updated their maintenance routine on the Odyssey. My service minder code for transmission came on at 25 000 miles. I drained and refilled 3 times at a garage and honestly would gladly pay Honda to do it all in at once for $240 next time)
@joeaverager7 жыл бұрын
Our MDX is due, same transmission as the Odyssey. I'll gladly do the work myself. The biggest reason is because if they flush the transmission, what do they do about the filter? If they reverse flow the filter trash could be pushed back into the transmission. If they forward flow the flush, I want a new filter in there first. If they use the filter hoses as the machine connection I guess that would be okay. Nobody cares more about my transmission than me. ;)

I have a 2015 model with 40k not sure if it has been changed we bought it used it had 34k on it. I took it to dealer to have a middle seat recall fixed and they told me the transmission oil needed to be changed about every 30 to 35k. The Honda dealer said they doubt it had the 30 k service they had no records. Who knows that maybe true. I pulled dipstick and the transmission oil looks really clean like it has been changed but Honda doesn’t have any record. They tell me it’s going to be 590.00 to service. So I may just change it myself but from what I see it looks to be already changed we don’t drive it a lot. I have a very slight hesitation when cold can’t tell if it’s transmission or might be something with the ignition but after a few miles it goes away almost like you have a little bit of water in gas. But always use premium fuel and tried at different locations just to make sure it wasn’t bad fuel or sometimes It doesn’t do it at all. Anyone had this problem. It shifts great on rare occasions we get a hard shift.

Transmissions have always been Honda's weakness. A drain and fill like what was done here every 25-30k is sufficient in my book.

Change the filter! Most of the old fluid is still in the transmission. Best method is to drain and fill 3-4 times and change the filter.
@glp04265 жыл бұрын
You can not change the filter in a Honda transaxle. There is no pan and the filter is internal.
@osupoke21694 жыл бұрын
When you say drain and fill, does that mean drain the old put new in, then drain the new and put new new in? So buy like 12 quarts and flush?
@ART2244 жыл бұрын
@C S yes. You’d drain out the fluid in the pan, refill, drive around for a while to get the transmission fluid mixed up, drain again, fill again, and repeat. Each time, you are adding roughly 3.3 quarts of new fluid. After you have done this 3 or 4 times, you’ll have more more new transmission fluid in the system than old. Draining all of the old fluid out will be impossible, so this is the best you can do.
@glenglene84733 жыл бұрын
mine only drained out 3.5 quarts. Capacity indicates 3.3 quarts.
