Hey bud, just got done with the first strut, thanks for your help! Not to be a stickler, but I did notice something that you would probably want to know. The steering knuckle bolt doesn’t attach through the hole on the shock absorber/strut. I came to that same point and almost quit last night, but I checked the other strut and that bolt actually goes over the entire little ear/tongue on the strut. It’s supposed to rest along the circumference of the shock on the raised area where the brackets for the beak line and speed sensor are located and torqued to I think 77 lbs which is more than tight enough to keep it secure, trust me, I almost broke my face with my torque wrench. Hope that helps!

I'm glad you got it done. Thanks for letting me know about the bolt, I will have to check that out.

Great job I believe the struts changed for the 2019 Jeep cherokee but they remove an install just like in this video

I appreciate the info and thank you. I was not sure it if stopped this way in 18 or 19

Thanks for doing this. I never have any luck with aftermarket springs on the struts. But that one looks pretty close! Wondering how is the difference in ride quality from the original end Is it true that bolt that holds the shock is a torque type stretch that can only be used once?
@operationoverhaul Жыл бұрын
It is actually my neighbors car and I'll ask her if she has noticed any difference between the two since she drives it daily. Also, I have seen where some people said it was torque to yield bolt but service data did not say anything about it being one but I may call the dealership and see what they say.

One question: should those retainers turn or are mine already damaged?
@operationoverhaul10 сағат бұрын
Mine would rotate around the top of the strut so I think they are meant to turn. They would turn on the new and old ones.
@AdnanPasic-ex7gz7 ай бұрын
Hey there first time doing struts. What do you mean by “rotating them to the same orientation” at 8:45 in the video. Thanks for the video super helpful getting all the tools needed and how to do everything.
@operationoverhaul7 ай бұрын
I rotated the top hat (the portion that sticks through the body of the car for the clips to hold on to) to match and make sure all the tabs are facing the same way.
@AdnanPasic-ex7gz7 ай бұрын
THANKS FOR RESPONDING SO FAST DAMN MAN I APPRECIATE THAT!!!! Also last question my new strut shock assembly is longer than the old ones. I’m assuming that’s normal and that they’ll break in after a little riding to normal height is that correct?
@operationoverhaul7 ай бұрын
@AdnanPasic-ex7gz your welcome and yeah they can be a little longer due to the age of the old ones.

I did my front struts recently on my 2019 jeep cherokee. Replaced with monroe complete strut. Im not happy. Feel like my front end is alot lower and im already hearing a thud noise which from what my previos failing one sounded like, is the strut mount.
@operationoverhaul4 ай бұрын
I have never had an issue with Monroe personally but I know people who have had issues like you are stating. They said that the car does sit lower and rides stiffer. I have had issues with Masterpro parts before though. I would prefer factory parts but I know that is not always an option. You could try swapping your springs from the original ones to the new ones and see if that makes a difference. I know that is a lot of unnecessary work though.

I’m here because a customer came from the dealer with that thudding noise. They had bilstein shocks and it still did it. Doorman claimed to have a fix but it was the same thing I took off. Told our customer we were clueless.

@joshbrown1381 I wonder if it is moving in the knuckle or the spring is moving around? I have had a BMW that the spring was actually turning inside the new strut and it was a faulty part. I replaced the top hat and spring from the factory one and it solved the issue.

@@operationoverhaul When we first got it, they didn’t install the bolt on the top side of the knuckle,through the little hole on the bottom of the strut. Fixed that. Tried resetting the spring and look at the mount rubber positioning with the nut removed, but it all looked fine. still made the sound once it was all together.

Is this the same process for a Jeep Cherokee trailhawk year 2015?
@operationoverhaul2 жыл бұрын
It should be the same basic procedure as this. They both use the same plastic clips that holds the struts to the strut towers.
