Exactly. You don't know how many times I have had to get the roll back and go pick vehicles up because other shops left the line loose and the only way you find out is while you're driving and the vehicle doesn't move forward any longer. Lol Glad I was able to help!

Just finished this up - a big thank you for the clear and concise directions. You saved me about 500 bucks for the condenser replacement. One note, the amazon condenser came bent and I had to run to Advance to get a new one. Be aware that if the condenser is bent the transmission cooler lines may not snap in correctly. That took the majority of the time to do this job. Again, thanks man.

Man, this just saved me at least $700 in labor costs! Thanks so much for this. One small issue others might run into, though. My 2014 Sierra SLT has an auxiliary battery tray (no battery, just the tray) on the driver's side. This had to be removed in order to move the washer fluid tank back. Not a big deal. BTW, what’s up the 23 people that gave this a thumbs down? Seriously?
@cdarnau
@cdarnau 3 жыл бұрын
I'm glad it helped! The one in the video also has an AUX battery tray in it. It doesn't have to be removed. The upper part of the neck will still move enough to get the bar out. You just have to use a little more "Helping". Lol

Great video. I followed this video to do my 2015 GMC Sierra Denali with the 6.2L. I found that removing the air cleaner attachment pan and bracket gave me a better angle to access the 13mm nut for the lower lines on the passenger side. Removing the auxiliary battery pan allowed me to push the washer reservoir further back to allow better access to the 10mm bolts under the core support on the drivers side. I also used a vacuum with a soft bristle brush to clean the front of the radiator before installing the new condenser. Dealer quoted me close to $1,300 to do this job and it took me maybe a couple hours milking it and have spent maybe $200 for the condenser and refrigerant. Thanks a lot!

Just found out today that my condenser has a leak. Dealer wants $1200 to do it. A year and a half go my ac compressor locked up and had to be replaced. Why isn’t there a recall for this common issue yet? Thanks for the video. I also liked and subscribed
@cdarnau
@cdarnau 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The reason your compressor locked up before was probably because the system already had a condenser leak and when it got low in Freon caused the compressor to lock up. I have replaced many compressors with leaking condensers being the root cause. The reason there won't be a recall is because it isn't a safety condition. They did do a special coverage but it only went to 60k miles and only on certain vehicle lines. You can definitely replace the condenser yourself. It really isn't a tough job to do. I would like my daughter try it. Lol

First Off...Thank You! Saved me hundreds if not a thousand easily. But I wanted to give a few tips for people to avoid the mistakes I made. I ruined the first condenser I bought. While connecting the coolant lines back to the condenser, I kept tightening because it did not seem like the gap was closed and they were all the way on. I ended up pulling the stud straight out of the condenser. Also, I purchased both of mine from Summit Racing Equipment. Although both said they came with the seals, neither one did. I had to go and buy a variety pack at NAPA auto parts. Just FYI.

Hey Chris, Thanks for the great video. Unfortunately looks like I'll be tackling the condenser this weekend. I know you said you recommend adding some trans fluid after install, do you recommend trying to prime the new condenser with trans fluid as well? Or just add it after install and let the system take care of the air bubbles? Also curious about your thoughts on how much compressor oil to add, saw a few questions on it. Thanks again for all the help and the kickass video.

Charlie Modereger I just add the transmission fluid into the dipstick. I never really thought about priming it. I don’t see where that would hurt. On the AC oil. I have drained many of the because I like to add what comes out of the compressors or systems when I do AC jobs. I never drain any out of the condenser even if I let it sit a long time. So I don’t add any. Thanks for the compliments. I really appreciate you watching. Good luck! I know you can do it!

so if you have the new 1234yf refrigerant is it possible to still do this? Also went to Orielys and the seals didn't come with the condenser to replace them for the lines like you said. is there a part number for those? They couldn't find.
@cdarnau
@cdarnau 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, You can still do it. You just have to take it to the dealer to get charged with Freon. The lines come with retainers. Not Seals. The seals on the lower lines stay on and can be reused.

Chris, quick question about the “o-rings” you mentioned. And also added links for.. are they both the same size? Which one goes on the top line and which for the bottom line? Or better yet, how can I tell once I have them? Thanks! And awesome no BS video. I’m changing mine this weekend and this will come in handy as hell.

I'm going to need to do this project. My 2014 Silverado is gonna kill me in the Texas heat this summer if I don't and I refuse to pay $1100 for someone else to do it. One question, is there a good resource to show how to vacuum pump the system before recharging? I've got the parts you provided in my Amazon cart as I type this. Thanks in advance.
@cdarnau
@cdarnau 4 жыл бұрын
Thomas Green personally I would just pay someone to vacuum and charge the system. It will cost less than $100 at a decent ac place unless it is the new 1234 Freon.

As far as replacing the condenser, Chris Arau's video is by far the best. It's nice to watch the video and lay out all of the tools you'll need in advance. I highly recommend having a 10mm ratchet wrench for the 6 fun bolts, a deep barrel 13 mm socket for the ac inlet/outlet lines, and a short crowbar to grip the tranny lines like Chris did with his specialized tool. I didn't replace the AC line gaskets and haven't had any problems in almost a month. It took about 4 hours for me to get the old condenser out and the new one in. I referred to this video for the pulling vacuum and recharging the system: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpXUaX13ocinbNU. I added about 2 oz of Pag oil and almost 2 12 oz cans of freon. I got my condenser, oil, and freon at Auto zone for around $212. Autozone "loaned" me the vacuum pump and gauges. I could have saved about $40 getting the condenser on Amazon, but have read reviews of people receiving bent/damaged condensers. No Regrets doing the whole job myself and using Autozone for all of the parts.

Removing the metal cross piece might be a bit more work but seems to be the best/easiest way to go for getting the old condenser out and new one in. I've seen others fight with tilting the radiator back and struggle with removing the condenser out/in to avoid removing the cross piece.

My 2018 Sierra condensor went out yesterday...im fortunate i had the extended warranty which resulted in $300 on my end....either way the Dealer original quoted price was $2200! Surprised this has happened with a vehicle w only 60k miles. Not sure weather GM is building quality vehicles anymore..
@cdarnau

It really is unfortunate that GM is having an issue like this. At our dealership we charge 850.00 for the new Freon condenser job and 650.00 if it is the old Freon to do the complete job since we all know how to remove it in a timely manner. We can still make money like that and the customer doesn't get hit with a 2000.00 bill for an AC job. As far a GM making a quality vehicle. I would have to disagree with you on this. Yes, GM does have an issue with this part and they really failed the consumer in finding a fix that would be a suitable solution. BUT! This really is such a small problem when you compare it to other issues. If the condenser does fail the vehicle is still 100% reliable. This will not leave you stranded or in any kind of danger. It does suck and is uncomfortable in the extreme heat of the summer especially in the south where I live. lol But in the grand scheme of larger problems, this really is a minor one. Just my opinion. I am a GM man through and through. Thanks again for watching!

Great video Chris. Getting ready to attack it tomorrow after work. I received the condenser today that I ordered from the link. The whole thing was bowed (potato chipped) so I carefully bent it back flat. The other thing was the AC lines don't look like the photo which shows them at what looks like a 90 degree bend. Mine are over bent back toward the condenser. I don't know if that's an issue or not. Any thoughts? Thanks again for the great video of this.
