Fixed exact same condenser leak with quick setting epoxy, sandpaper, and carb cleaner. Took 15 minutes and didn't have to remove a thing (all work done reaching through front grill.) 1.Clean area with carb cleaner. 2. Sand metal around leak 3. Clean again. 4. Apply epoxy with something like a toothpick (don't use plastic, epoxy may melt it.) 5. Let cure (see epoxy directions) mine was a 90 second super fast curing. 6. recharge freon. Did mine almost 1 year ago and still working great.

I know this is a 3 year old video but man I got to really thank you for this. My AC condenser in my 2014 chevy silverado 1500 has the exact same link (that I found this morning) and I was quoted $1400 to fix it but being a weekend Mechanic myself I know I can do this after watching your video. You're awesome bro and I highly appreciate you for this. You saved me at least $1,200...if not more. Keep Rockin' 🤙🏽

Thanks for the video. I was able to do this in about 2 hours first try. I could have used a 10mm gear wrench but couldn't find mine. The top part of the condenser is actually a transmission cooler I believe. Another thing is that you really should replace the two seals that connect the lines down below, they are around 28 bucks at the stealership. My stealer quoted me $1400 to change the condenser, 6 hours of labor. They were already changing the leaking radiator under GM warranty and I'm sure they were trying to double charge me and GM for the same labor. I told them to get fucked. I emailed them that I did it in two hours and for less than 200 in parts, accused them of double charging labor, and told them they will never see me again. Kendall Auto Mall lost my business.

Dustin T All setup, vacuum and charged. A GM tech friend said its about 1100 job parts and labor. He also said they usually don't remove the bar across the top. They usually just remove the air intake duct, remove the two radiator bolts at the top and push everything back twords the engine. Remove 10mm Bolt bottom left corner, disconnect ac lines lower left and the one top right, bend back tabs holding condenser against radiator and slide up. I wanted more room and to make sure everything lined up easier so I did it your way! 😊 Removing the top bar was a pain in the ass, the (6) 10mm bolts on the underside 3 on each side was the hardest part of the job. Haha! Thanks for the tutorial!

Dustin T, I just finished it up. It wasn’t too bad to replace. The hardest part was getting that left AC line off the condenser. Also, just a heads up, some of the 2014 and early 2015 are having a leak in a line because of a bracket not being installed (late 2015 and up have it). It’s a 10$ bracket that might be some preventive maintenance. Here is a link which has the part number and page 2 has pictures of it. www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/176517-ac-line-bracket/

Mike Gomez honestly I’m not sure... I can however tell you I owned an 07 civic once upon a time that had a design flaw where the front end couldn’t be aligned correctly. It was quite a problem, and I had a local mechanic replace it with a part that fixed the issue. Several years later I got a paper where there was a suit against Honda and I got a check reimbursing me not only for the cost of the part, labor, but for the tires that it wore out too quickly. So who knows, could happen one day with this!

Did this today with hand tools. Took about 1.5 hours to remove airbox, front crossmember, disconnect the lines going into the old condenser and get the new one set in and lines connected. I went ahead and set the vacuum pump up to run for an hour while I put the crossmember and airbox back in. At the hour mark I turned the pump off for 15 min or so to see if the manifold guages would read any vacuum loss. Then did the recharging process and buttoned everything else back up. Had about 4 hours into the whole thing including looking around awhile for my 10mm ratchet wrench. This tool will save you some time on the driverside crossmember next to the windshield washer reservoir but unfortunately I could not find mine. I must have flipped the box end of that wrench 400 times getting that bolt out and back in 😂😂😂😂 You may get lucky and the crossmember bolts will be hand tight all the way out once you break them free but don't count on it. My truck is a '16 and was leaking in the same spot on the condenser as the truck in this video. It's crazy to think of such a widespread issue that GM won't own up to. After doing tons of research on 14-15 trucks before buying mine, I would not have seen anyone having this issue yet... Seems to occur between 40-80k miles. Anyways, appreciate the video bud. It's always nice to see what you're getting yourself into before taking on a job.

You can replace these without removing the middle bar. Just remove the air box and related components going to the throttle body. Take out the two bolts that hold the radiator and condenser in place and the radiator and condenser will tilt backwards. Plenty of room to pull the condenser out and saves a lot of time

Damn. I should have looked this up sooner. I just made an appt to drop my truck off tomorrow. It's a 15 sierra with 160k. Other than this A/C issue I've had zero problems and I beat the crap out of this thing. I'm tempted to cancel and do this myself as I have always performed all work and maintenance myself. Here is where I'm stuck. When I discovered I had an a/c issue 4 months ago at the beginning of summer, I used a leak stop, then quickly used the a/c pro you used as recommended. Well, a couple days later I was without cold air again. I tried filling, but this time it wouldn't take. I'm thinking this crap clogged the low pressure side/valve. I want to do this myself and save the money, but I also don't want to attempt it, only to be at the same place and have to take it to them for them to figure out if there is a blockage. Ahhhh! I was also slated to get a new 19 Denali as my loaner. Dealer knows it's time for a new truck for me so he's trying to sell! I agreed to get the truck as a loaner but I swore to myself to take this truck over 300k too. Decisions... Just thinking there will be more wrong and I drive and need my truck a lot!

Dustin, I love your videos thanks for sharing all your experiences and advice. I drive a 2014!high country just like yours except it’s black and has the 6.2. The condenser has gone out and I was wondering how the new one you installed has held up?

On the driver side it’s the transmission oil cooler side did you need to add transmission oil since oil was lost because of the oil that was in the bad condenser?

23:52 might mention why you draw the vacuum. So that it removes any moisture from the system after opening it up. And after shutting off vacume pump. Watch gauges for 15-20 minutes to make sure you don’t have any leaks in the system before putting in Freon

Funny how the leak is at the same weld on my 2014 Chevy Silverado and I have see 3 other videos with the same leak from the same driver side top weld. GM knows of the issue but refuses to do anything to fix it. This video will save me about $1000.00 . chevy wants $1200 for the repair . B.S. Why has there been No Recall. This truck I have is my last GM product.

Dustin, Thanks for making this video. I just did the UV test, and mine is leaking exactly in the same spot. Curious, If my A/C line hasn't leaked due to the poor design, do you think I could just put that bracket on?

Hey buddy! Yep thats the one I bought, still working great and I'm happy with it! Honestly I would put the bracket on, cheap item if it keeps you from having to replace the line and freon again.

Is this the same procedure for the 6.2 motor? I had a dealer tell me there are more things to remove since it is a bigger motor. I personally have no way of verifying this. If anyone knows I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

Hey Dustin your ‘low end’ AC attachment is WAY higher (and much easier to get to) than my 2017 Sierra. Do you have an extender attachment on there for easier maintenance? If so please forward me to a place you recommend and the exact name of it. That would be a HUGE help if I can’t add that to my truck. I can barely get my hands down there!

Condenser just went out on my 15 Sierra. Going to try doing it myself after getting a quote for 1400, especially once I saw the parts were only $360. I’m no mechanic by any means, but here goes nothing lol

Miguel Galeana yeah man def worth doing yourself to save a rack! Just be sure to hook up the new condenser tight. If it’s loose the moment you turn the truck on it can pop off and spill your transmission fluid.

You’re supposed to leave the gauges on to check for leaks before you fill it up with refrigerant. That way you don’t waste that expensive AC Pro refrigerant. Also, don’t use refrigerant with oil. There are specific amounts to use when replacing certain components on the system.
