Watch a full tutorial as a 2017 Volkswagen GTI MK7 will have a Pioneer 5 Channel Amplifier and Alpine 10" Type S Subwoofer Installed. We will be using the stock CD/Radio Stereo of which will be removed to allow access to speaker outputs in order to our wiring providing signal to the amplifier without use of an aftermarket radio.

I ran new speaker wire for all my speakers in my 350z. Doing the doors was a pain in the ass!!! Had to drill a hole in the molex connector that connects to the body and door and run speaker wire into it then through the door loom and into the door. Took a bit of extra time but was worth it cause of how much better it sounds than if I did this!

Awesome video (the best ive come across for an audio installation in a golf!) One very very small critiscm you dont need a remote wire with a stock headunit so that part of tapping the fuse is not required - pioneer and most other amps will turn on and off with the speaker input from a stock headunit (this goes for any car not just vw). N

Hey mate, great video. I used this for wiring up mine, but found after a bunch testing to be sure, the way you have put in the fuse tap / add a circuit is the wrong orientation. If you are running in the 12v accessory fuse with ignition turn on the tail lead from the add a circuit must be going upwards. Downwards the way you have it in the video works (as it will) but the power for the second circuit runs through the first circuit meaning 1. You have to have the bottom fuse in as well as all current will run through the bottom fuse first, and 2. If the 12v accessory fuse goes the amp stops working. It is essentially running the fuses in series rather than in parallel. You can test this by pulling out the bottom fuse, your amp will stop turning on. But awesome video, thank you!

You just need two of the 9 conductor wires in this scenario. Zero rca cables required. One to the back into the high level input and one back from the speaker outs on the amp to the front. No remote wire or messing with the fusebox required as others have stated

Very good explanaion of installaion. I have recently installed d9705 in my honda civic. I already used high end 3 preout jvc audio dac. Sounds bcome havier after intaling 5 channel amp, i like more high frequencis and mid range music sounds but i dont like more base sound. But after instaling this base effect is more.

Great video, extremely helpful. One thing I’ve never understood about this process is what happens to the original power amp. You’ve essentially added an amp in series with the original wiring, so aren’t the speakers getting double amp’d (aside from the sub)? If that’s the case and there was a low quality amp signal to begin with, you would still be hearing that low quality.

You had many unused fuses to use instead of tapping into one. Just put your rem fuse on the top socket on the adapter and plug into a fuse that only gives 12v on ignition. Lowers the risk of blowing fuses

Awesome tutorial! Very well explained. The only part I can't figure out is why you plugged 2 RCA output cable from the radio to the subwoofer input ports of the amplifier? From my point of view there are 8 speaker wires (positive and negative) which are paired and then 4 RCA cables are plugged into the amplifier (2 front speakers + 2 rear speakers). In other words, there is no channel for the sub coming out of the radio so where to your RCA sub input on the amplifier come from? Thanks in advance and have a great day!

Hi, I have a 2017 GTI with Fender Audio System with a factory subwoofer on the top ot the spare tire. I would like to connect a JL Audio type D 5 channel amplifier. I got an idea how to plug it in but I am uncertain how to feed the signal to the the JL amp without the RCA converter you have used on other amplifier installations and why suppress the RCA converter. Do you happen to know if there is another set of output cables on the rear of the CD unit that can be used to feed the subwoofer signal? All the videos I have found are for sound systems that do not have a factory subwoofer. There is nothing for for a Fender Audio system out there. There is this video from a guy who went beyond the limits installing regulators and so on. I just want my system to sound nice for me only not to show off to othe other drivers. I have no intention (for now) to replace door speakers. I am sure installing this JL audio amp the sound will improve. I just want to make sure I do it right.

Super old video, we'd do things very differently. 1. There is a T harness available to prevent any need to cut into the factory wiring 2. Use a line out converter (LC2i, or LC7i) for signal correction and a nice output to an amplifier if your amp doesn't take a high level input. 3. yes 9 wire is great, and you can use two sets if you use a similar technique like we did in the video. 8 wires from the radio = 4 speaker output wires (a + and - wire), or 4 channels of sound. For the RCA cables, each rca output is essentially 2 wires as it contains a + and a - too. You will have 4 of those plus a sub 2 channel output.

He re wired the door speakers which isn’t really necessary. All you need is an rca converter and tap into the rear door speaker wires up by the head unit in the glove box

xlthumper we didn't use a line out converter since this pioneer can take both a high level or Low level signal through the RCA inputs so there was no need to install one. Other amps may require a line out converter. See 9:36 of the video which shows the speaker wiring diagram.

I am doing basically the same install but on a 2019 GTI. There's tons of room under that back hatch in the spare tire compartment. In fact, if you remove the two side plastic partitions, it also allows for a significant amount of air to circulate in that compartment for amp cooling. I might even add a fan that kicks on with the amp.

We set our gains with an SMD-DD1 to the factory sound system. for 18 gauge wiring, usually the most power you can push would be around 100 watts RMS. any more power would require a new run of wire.

The amp we used takes a high level in put. This video is also very old at this point. I recommend a Pac T harness and line out converter for a proper install without the need to cut into the factory harness.

What was the initial length of the power wire you used? I have looked at "Amp kits" online and most seem to have 20" or less of wire. I like to have more than just enough just from experiences in the past. So just curious how long your power wire was because it did seem like you had plenty to play with if you made a mistake. If you can, grab some 4ga welding cable... Yes, welding cable...I use it my car and I KNOW if it's good for welding metal it'll be good for running power to my amps.... It never gets hot as it's industrial coated... It'll cost a shade more than amp kit sold online but trust me... Best choice I think you can make.... It's not bright and pretty like the blue cable... But seriously, who's guna see it?

I'm needing help on my mk4 golf gti with monsoon factory amp, I have a aftermarket radio and install my RCA to that to run my single subwoofer but for some reason the sub won't play music everything is new except the headunit only thing I can think of is the RCA in radio aren't working. Or if I need to bypass the stock amp or something, I can't find a answer

I wouldn't tap the wire like that for this... Since he was using it to send power to the speakers. Tap maybe for a turn on or something that doesn't matter how much power is passing through it.

He's running the remote directly from the fuse panel. You can do it easier by buying a Speaker to RCA Line output converter which converts your speaker wires to RCA connectors and also has the remote output so you don't have to tap into the fuse box.

It isn't a high current trigger wire, so even a 5 amp fuse will be just fine.

I've spent hours looking for a harness for my 2019 gti, no luck. I figure I'm going to keep the car so I may as well just wire in and solder the wires. I'm going to use a lc7i between head unit and amp, so I don't need to find the amp turn-on lead, as the lc7i will provide that function for me.

@@orblivious1 just a heads up. I installed this weekend and I threw a BUNCH of codes. I had the battery unhooked but it still there the codes. I an going to call around today to see who can clear the codes. Just in case you get codes when you turn everything back on.

I have a cheap obd2 tool that can scan and reset simple things like the CEL after a coilpack blows. i think autozone will scan the codes for you, too.

Hey, you have used pioneer GM amps several times now, in particular the gm-d9605 5 channel amp. Do you recommend it as a great budget amp with great output for a nice thumping system? I have an mk6 golf.

Absolutely. For the price, its a 2 in 1 amplifier which saves on space and budget. With 600 watts @ 2 ohms for the sub channel, and 75 watts @ 4 ohms for each interior speaker channel, you can't go wrong.

There is no accessory wire behind the radio. You will need some sort of way to generate your remote wire. The pac LC7i-2 does that for ya.
