EXACTLY the video I wanted to see!!! Not only am I getting ready to connect my 4-channel amp and 12" 4-ohm sub, but also plan on running my 4 front & rear speakers like you showed the 5-channel set-up. What really made me smile when I clicked on this video was the fact that you showed the connections to the exact same amp I just bought on eBay! At least it sure looks the same. Mine is the Kenwood KAC-8406 class A/B 4-channel. I've run amps with this same configuration in the past and it worked out perfect. I just like to make sure any new amp I buy is capable of the 5-channel hookup. Looks like this Kenwood is. My front and rear speakers are all four Clarion SRG-1623R which I purchased a few years ago based NOT on their 260w maximum power handling but for their high frequency response! These little speakers go all the way up to 30,000Hz with was about the highest highs I could find any 6-1/4's going up to in my online comparisons before I bought them. They just don't do much in the bass department. In my Chevy Prizm, I was able to cut out the 6-1/4" holes in the rear deck to make room for the huge bridges of the Clarion SRG-6953R 600-watt 5-way 6x9's. Those were the BEST sounding 6x9's I've ever heard in any of my cars in 40+ years! People used to ask me all the time what kind of subs I was running, when all it was were a pair of rear 6x9's! All my speakers were connected to a Boston GT-40 4-channel amp through a Clarion EQS-746 passive equalizer. ANYWAY... back to the reason for my comment! I was VERY thankful for your video! It showed me that my newest Kenwood amp IS capable of a 5-channel hookup! Oh, by the way, NICE touch on the making of your new wire terminals!

I just run a bigger gauge power wire to a distribution block and run power from there to amps. But ALWAYS ground each amp separately, not to same screw. VERY IMPORTANT is that you use a relay to turn on more than 1 amp! The turn-on lead from a head unit is very low voltage and not designed to turn on multiple items like amps. You'll fry the turn-on circuit of your deck trying to turn on more than one amp. As for grounds, what I do because I'm weird is run a large gauge ground to another distribution block then run grounds from the block to each component. Wish I could post a picture of how I do it! But think link MIGHT work to show my odd usage of distribution blocks! Even one for turn-ons! i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh100/Hairball98498/98%20Stratus%20stereo/P5130209.jpg

Glad they didn't go into dual voice coil subs along with what they did here. Good info for people out there who are new to car audio or just don't understand how this stuff works. For me it was mundane but MECP certified back in the 90's so... While car audio is just a hobby for me now, back then I thought I might want to install for a living. Installed on the side for several years while working in a electronics store. Got married and car audio took a back burner finally ending up operating tractors. Working on a install in our Hyundai Sonata. Have the double din touchscreen in running the factory speakers currently. Sub box with 2 Fosgate dual voice coil 12's is done and I'm working on the amp rack with EQ now. Once that's done I'll install all the door speakers and run wires from the amp for those. After that I plan to play around with some LED lighting. I've got the light strips and controllers already. Just waiting on the switches and several reed relays to show up for that. Our daughter is getting handed down the Mazda with 2 Boston Acoustic 10's and Soundstream amps.

@TheBoostinbobby3 жыл бұрын
Depends how many come off your head unit. Should at least run a sub rca and voice rca. Some head units have front and rear rca outputs for voice. Some have only 1 set. Run 1 set rca's for the subwoofers and a second for the vocal amp. If you do not have a 3rd or rear channel rca out the head unit you use Y adaptors to turn the 2 voice rca's into 4 to plug into the Amp (just make sure you keep left and right separate and plug into proper rca inputs to the Amp.

The remote turn-on lead is SO low power it would NEVER induce noise into an RCA cable! Really. Most are like 0.5 volts max! But the one important thing most people don't realize that IS a true fact is you NEVER want to use your head unit's remote turn-on lead to power up more than ONE thing! EVER! You'll fry that circuit in seconds trying to draw that much power from it! Instead, you always run your turn-on lead to a relay! Then power whatever you want off the relay! Myself, I'm weird and old, so I came up with my own personal idea on the use of relays and distribution blocks: I use 1 relay, but the power from it goes to a seperate distribution block for to amp turn-on leads, 1 distribution block to make ONE ground point than run 4 grounds to all the stuff, and a third distribution block puts main power from the main fuse to each of 4 components instead of trying to connect a bunch of power wires! May seem weird, but it sure doesn't hurt anything! And it not only looks cool, but gets a LOT of comments and it DOES work! i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh100/Hairball98498/98%20Stratus%20stereo/P5110189.jpg

This just isn't complete enough for me. Those wires going under the screws on the amp. Where do they go? What are they attached to? Where does the 8 speaker wires on the head unit go? Do the speaker wires from the speakers hook up to the amp? Where do they hook up to on the amp? So far I can't find any videos that answer what questions I have. They all assume. Even if they posted a pictorial diagram, I wouldn't need a video.. Easiest thing to do. Spread all components out on a big table like surface and attach the wires. Takes away all the mystery.
@Qualitymobilevideo2 жыл бұрын
This is a to demonstrate the wiring options, you have to decide how you are going to run your speakers depending on loading. The wires go to the speakers but you are presented with several wiring options when using multi-channel amplifiers, do you want to run four speakers and a sub? That is a three way setup, do you want to run four speakers? That is a four channel setup. What are you stuck on?

@@Qualitymobilevideo I'm looking to run 4 speakers and 1 sub. I just need to understand that I run the speaker wires from the head unit to the Amplifier. Once that is done. Is there connections from the Amplifier to the speakers? My install is all to be new, I am not including any stock components. I will probably be purchasing a 5 channel amplifier just for the ease of making the necessary connections and I won't have to worry about bridging. I bought a bunch of speaker cables. Thanks a lot! I am upgrading my Chevrolet Opala (brazilian 4 door sedan) sound system. Your video explained perfectly how to compose all my 5 channel configuration. Amazing video! Excelent teacher.

So as I'm seeing is to connect my front or all 4 speakers to my amp plus a sub do I wire up from the individual door or from the back of my aftermarket deck?
@Qualitymobilevideo6 жыл бұрын
You have multiple options! Your amp is 4 Channels or 5?

This was the easy part for me, I was more interested in wires getting pulled through in Audi A4 B7 Avant, but this one was still a good refresher. Keep up the job, keep every one of us informed at all times ;)

With 3 channel 2 speaker setup do you still have to use 4 inputs from the head unit?
@Qualitymobilevideo3 жыл бұрын
Usually the amp will have an input selection switch and you can use just 2 channel input

Hi great video. Big questions: 1. How do i now the stock output in watts of my car radio? 2. If the stock system has 4x 25watts speakers, does it mean that the radio output is 200w? 3. Does the output of the amplifier change in different radios? (Using the same amp)
@Qualitymobilevideo6 жыл бұрын
1. Tough to tell, you can refer to your car manual or call the manufacturer 2. Yes each channel is getting 25W 3. The amplifier power will always stay the same. The power would change if the speakers were wired to the head unit instead

what equipment (insulators, etc) does Lorenzo use to make those clean wire setups? shows some small clips of him doing it but doesn't go over the process. is there a link to a video of him doing that ? would love to see best tips on how to make this clean install running 2 wires in the single high guage looking tube
@Qualitymobilevideo4 жыл бұрын
So those splitters are called "wire pants", you can find them on google easily :) Also use heat shrink tubing to seal the ends

Very nice and clean work!!What are those black plastic speaker wire covers from Monster Cable called? Lorenzo was doing a video and using these. I would like to buy these for my personal install. Do you sell them? Please let me know. Thanks!!

Unfortunately they're discontinued! Sorry Rick! We've just had them in the shop or years for our personal use. Google "speaker wire pants", you'll find them
