Things ALL high jumpers understand. Landing on the bar and feeling like you have just been killed (I am not exaggerating. It makes you wanna cry) Clearing the jump yet the bar falling when you land on the mat. Your heel just barely touching the bar yet it falls. Over- arching and landing directly on your neck. That moment they raise the bar and you think "oh shit" That last jump you HAVE to clear or else your disqualified. (You feel like everything depends on that last jump) People cheering for you and distracting you. *only some people for this one* The music turning on just as you were about to jump and scaring you. Edit: Reply others ones I may have missed 😀

I do sprinting and pole vault but I can relate. the worst feeling is falling on top of the bar, like literally on top of it. So painful

That One Cardboard Box I used to be one of the best female high jumpers at my school, but one time I fell on the bar and hurt my back and broke my wrist. I haven't tried high jumping since then. I'm petrified of it.

I'm striving to be that good when I'm 15, because I'm twelve at the moment 1 meter 38 centimeters in height and my high jump record is 1 meter 28 centi meters. And don't think I'm one of those people who just say they can do something when they can't. I'm really hoping that one day I can go to the olympics
@kurtsherrick20667 жыл бұрын

I mean does it help to jump at an angle since they're not directly in front of the bar? Do they have to run like that? Do they have to run slowly then progress faster? I only now heard of this.
@jowbloe36736 жыл бұрын
The trick is to convert your horizontal speed to an upward direction to get the height to clear the bar. Fast enough that you can control your jump to go over the bar, but not too fast that you go into the bar.
@fredjones7705 Жыл бұрын
The jump style is called the Fosbury Flop. It was invented by a high school jumper in Medford Oregon named Dick Fosbury. The newspaper reported that Fosbury *Flopped* over the bar. He won a gold medal in 1968 Olympics in Mexico City and his style is the only one used now because it gets the most height. He died a few months ago.
