as a drum set player with no corps experience i am blown away at the rhythmic complexity of drum corps music . The accuracy with which you subdivide is freaking mind-blowing . On drum set , early era Dave Weckl is about as close to drum corps accuracy as I have heard .

This whole thing is a great place to improv audition solos from. Especially the fivelet sections. Oh my god I geeked out for like 10 minutes.

Colin makes it sound like the 5-let paradiddle thing is something totally new, but he's definitely used that a decent amount in past cadet books! The end of the 2011 drum break was almost identical

Very cool to hear the classic cadet music interpreted with the modern style of writing and playing. I have very fond memories of the 1987 Garfield show. Great book

What are the note with 5 over them how do you count them
@johnathanwhite48787 жыл бұрын
David campos fivelets, basically putting 5 notes inside a quarter note. So just like sixteenth notes are four notes in a quarter note, 5lets are 5 in a quarter note. I would start slow and use a five syllable word like u-ni-vers-i-ty and get used to the Rhythm

Can anyone explain to me what sub in measure 14 means?
@Mr12Hockeyguy9 жыл бұрын
Richard Temple "Sub" In musical terms means subito, or suddenly, so after the p to f crescendo it means to immediately drop to P

This question may sound dumb to many of you, but I really don't care, and it's for the sake of knowledge; What is the difference between the hollow note with the dot in the center and the note with the x? They both appear to be rimshots.
@nonpoverty1810 жыл бұрын
The note with the x is a normal rimshot and the note with the dot in the center is a pingshot and you just hit a rimshot with the rim closer to the bead of the stick and it creates a higher pitched sound that cuts through better.

Thank you

And the ones with the "G"s over them are Gock shots....just hit a shot at quadruple forte with the whole length of your stick and see what happens. Badass.

It's like he just gets tired of writing stuff, and just throws in 5s for no reason. It was how the 2011 feature ended, it's how 2012's, and 2013's ended. I can't do what he does, not even close, but it just doesn't seem musical.
