I think it's super important to show the process of learning a piece and getting better. There are so many artists that won't show you how they get there, only the polished product, and only being exposed to end results can set unrealistic expectations to people learning an instrument. Epic as always; love seeing you learn!

I am always mind-bent watching a good drummer do his thang I am a singer, piano guy. I have had to learn some tricky piano/vocal songs and did it by playing it OVER AND OVER FOR TWO DAYS. EMC, I challenge you to play Jeff Porcaro’s Rosanna Shuffle and play it 100% PERFECTLY. I remember reading a Modern Drummer article in the early 2000s that rated it the hardest groove to play with zero mistakes, exactly the way Jeff played it. There’s even a video still on KZbin where Jeff breaks the groove down step by step, but it doesn’t make it any easier. Make a video of that!

Yoni Madar just posted "the most complicated exercise I've created so far." Basically, the foot (bass drum) plays "Apple Pie" (1-2-3-rest/repeat) throughout. The left hand (snare- Yoni plays this as a rim click) plays "Apple Pie" (1-2-3-rest/repeat) twice, then adds a 16th rest to make after the second measure to make it "Strawberry" (1-rest-3-4/repeat), and adds a rest again to make it a check pattern culminating in an extra full beat (17 quarter notes) then repeats. The right hand then adds the hi-hat, which plays (1-2-3-4-rest/repeat) which is 5 over 4. There is a hi-hat "bark" on beat four, closing on beat 1.

Y'know, I never really thought, "Man, Estepario makes that look easy!" But watching someone else try and do what he does gives a lot of perspective on just how good he is. Seeing the work going into it, he definitely makes it look easier than it is. Particularly on the side by side, you can see the difference in how the limbs are moving between them. Estepario is almost like rubber with how relaxed he is, while EMC looks much more stiff. (No offence, of course!)
