To the guy that deleted his comment @cormaro13: Yes, it IS worth it IF you own the Cruze/Sonic/Encore/Trax already. It is NOT if you don't have one yet. Because this is a fully rebuilt 300 BHP car for a few grand, that still can get nearly 30MPGs on E85. 🤣 When I say 250 HP, I mean to the wheels (whp), it's a big difference than a brochure that reads "250". Same for the Torque. Crank torque is around 340. 🤣 I just don't go off those brochure numbers because whp is all that matters. I can outrun the new 3 series BMWs, an Acura TLX S, v6 camaros, 350 z's, (granted they are all stock or just tuned w/ CAI) etc. It's not JUST horsepower it's the motors efficiency level to deliver that power that makes the difference. The ZZP stuff makes the motor highly efficient. But there are cheaper ways to build it to the same level or higher, just not NEAR as durably. (This is my daily not a track car.) You also need to understand that 300 HP boosted is not the same as 300 HP Naturally Aspirated (NA). It delivers waaay different. So no a "average car or 300hp v6" isn't in the same league. I hope that answer you my friend! Next time keep your comment up lol, I love all types of feedback. There are no stupid questions, there really isn't much on these cars except bad stuff about them. So I get the curiosity.

Bro, go with ZZP. For a mechanic just do it yourself! It's super easy. Just youtube the stuff you want to add, that's what I did! Worked out pretty darn good! Just have a mechanic friend look over the stuff when you're done, for a few hundred $ and you're good!! Always pay them, they'll help you EVERY time. Little trick I learned a long time ago. Plus there's no knowledge like learning your car yourself. You feel more connected to the machine that way. You also don't sweat it when stuff breaks if you're educated on it, just gotta find the time to fix it. In house as much as you can though, only outsource things you don't trust yourself to do. IE internal components or trans work.

after all these modifications did it help with the cars reliability, I got one recently and it has a bunch of problems, leaking coolant and under boosting on turbo
@cruzecollective
@cruzecollective Жыл бұрын
That means your turbo manifold housing is probably cracked bro. You can do two things, replace with stock for around $580 orrr go v3 for $1300 and solve the issue for more than just 60-100k miles! However, I will say IF you go v3, you'll also need valve springs, cam, and fuel Injectors (42# at least). Otherwise you will not reach the full potential of the turbo. BUT you CAN just get the v3 and do a tune with Injectors. However you'll have valve float (on the top end) which REALLY kills top end power. The cam and valve springs really allow the tuner to unlock the full power band of the car and is worth it IF you already own your Cruze/Sonic. Also if you do a FULL (proper) build on the motor you will add another 250k miles (long as the trans holds up). Hope that answers your reliability question. If you mean does it deliver more? Yes! WAY more! I'm more comfortable with the motor having rebuilt it myself.

The best advice I can HONESTLY give anyone, is to do a full rebuild on it. Pull the motor, it's much easier to build on a stand. If you do not have access to a lift/shop then doing it in your driveway works too, just put the car on jack stands to make it easy to get under the car to mount things up. I used literally every cheat tool I could, timing chain alignment tool, cam alignment tool, AllData, and my mechanic brother. There is no "easy" way, but just do it all at once is the easiest. Also make sure you have a partner to help it makes the time go by faster and it comes in handy when you're under the car. Saves a ton of time crawling in and out when someone can just hand stuff to you. For the head, send it off. I did, and it only cost me around $280. They will deep clean the heads, set the retainers, keepers and springs and check the valves. Plus if your head is warped they can flatten it back out to seal properly.

@cruzecollective
@cruzecollective Жыл бұрын
So if you choose ZZP, you can rent a laptop and OBD2 reader from them by sending a deposit you'll get back when you return the items. Basically you connect the HP Tuners scanner to your car, record a file, send it to the tuner via email and they send you back a file to upload to the cars ECM/TCM/FSCM ECM - Engine Control Module TCM - Trans Control Module FSCM - Fuel System Control Module (ONLY need this if you do Injectors and E85 kit) It's simple and they will walk you through it, there is also a video from ZZP where they show you the step by step process. It basically wakes the car up, as GM has dulled it down to try and preserve the car's longevity.

Where can I go to get this done
@cruzecollective
@cruzecollective Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately unless you live in Michigan, you can't get it done AT ZZP. HOWEVER, you can order the parts you want from www.zzperformance.com and have a trusted shop or mechanic install them for you. I recommend doing the work yourself as it allows you to bond with the car, in the sense of you don't worry when stuff breaks... because you've literally already built it once. Having that IN DEPTH knowledge of your car is very satisfying in the end and also not as stressful when it breaks down. Not if, when. All things break. EDIT: Not to mention you'll save about $3,000 in the process. 🤣

Stock transmission?
@cruzecollective
@cruzecollective Жыл бұрын
Yep, sure is. I'm gonna buy a backup trans this summer and just keep one of back order lol. It's far cheaper than a manual swap, albeit less fun too. Eventually I'll gave a custom carbon fiber transaxle or something made for it. I've kinda grown used to the auto as I've calmed down with the car now. Haha.

whats the easy mod should i do first?
@cruzecollective
@cruzecollective 2 ай бұрын
I would recommend doing the cold air intake, big wheel turbo upgrade & retune first. Tbh, if you have a little extra $. If you're wanting to keep it cheap then a simple retune does quite a bit for this car, even with all stock parts. Just PLEASE make sure you build all the motor to handle your power upgrades, otherwise these cheap engines will not last long. But if you want cheapest & easiest it would be a retune on stock w/ maybe a cold air intake from ZZP!

My 2014 cruze got 157k miles is it not worth it adding mods or anything anymore? O
@cruzecollective
@cruzecollective 8 ай бұрын
Quite the opposite, if you plan to rebuild it. When you have the engine apart you may as well upgrade it all. But I would wait for a motor rebuild so it's less cost, time, and effort to upgrade the motor! At 157k if you took care of it you've got another 100k before you'll need a rebuild, tbh. These cars go the distance for the price.

The 'Gen 2' Cruzes are not near as popular in the performance world YET. However, ZZP, Dave's Cruze, BNR, are all stepping into it and creating parts
@cruzecollective

ZZP & BNR both have gear for the Gen 2 Cruze, though not as much as Gen 1. The Gen 2 is actually a snappier car than the Gen 1, IMO.

Can you do this with a 1.8
@cruzecollective
@cruzecollective 8 ай бұрын
You actually can and there is a guy on YT that had done it. It's pretty dope. You can hookup a much larger turbo to the 1.8L as it has nearly half a liter more for displacement to move more air. At a certain point the little 1.4 bottlenecks with its own displacement size. So I'd actually argue the 1.8 is a better platform to start with, though the 2.0L LSJ is arguably the best platform to start with.

Still good! Haha, I actually forgot I made this channel for a while. It didn't really get much traction in the beginning. I didn't know there were this many people that like the Cruze... wow. But it's running great. I actually rarely drive it, because I always drive my work vehicle. 😂 I find an excuse to drive it every couple weeks.

If you do the work yourself it'll run about $6500 for everything I did. (Taxes and shipping included.) Labor from a shop will probably run another $2k-3500, depending on your area code it could be more or less.

Total cost if I may?
@cruzecollective
@cruzecollective 8 ай бұрын
Sure, sorry for the late response. About $6k in parts/materials and all the labor was done myself or by my brother, where I lacked ability. So if you do it yourself it would've cost around $6k when I did it... Now, with inflation, Idk, maybe $7500ish? 🤔 If you don't do the work, it is NOT worth the investment. Tbh. Its super fun, it's quick for a Cruze, but throw $3k in a Cobalt SS and you're past 400whp. 😂

If $6k is "all that money" for a FULL build then you need to elevate your life a bit... $6k doesn't even BEGIN to scratch the surface on most car builds. $6k is usually just a turbo on most builds. 🤣

I bought the tune kit from ZZPerformance.com which provides you with a tuner from HP Tuners that you can rent or keep. It's the cheapest way to do it. If you send the tuner back to ZZP once you're done, they refund your deposit.
