( www.TFLtruck.com ) The 2014 Chevy Silverado High Country pickup truck with the new 6.2L V8 is the most powerful light duty pickup that you can buy today. With 420 HP and 460 lb-ft the new High end Chevy essentially shares the same engine as the new Chevy Corvette. That means that it should not only be powerful but also fast. In another fun and informative TFLtruck video, Roman finds out just how fast the new Chevrolet Silverado will go from 0-60 MPH in this impromptu and First Drive Performance Review.

GM should offer the 6.2 in the Regular cab, standard box, two-wheel-drive, work truck configuration. Couple that with the triangle window steel wheels, and this thing would be a total sleeper, but still super practical.

Thanks for your comment. We really appreciate it. We asked Roman and he says you may want to let GM know this fact because the Silverado's head drivetrain engineer that Roman interviewed was under the impression that this is essentially the same engine as in the Vette.

I was DEAD SET on getting a 2014 Ram 1500 Sport Crew Cab and loved it when I drove it. I took 3 test drives, one was a really long 2 hour drive. Until 2 days ago when I test drove a loaded Silverado 1500 with the 6.2. Well, I've changed my mind, think I'm gonna go with the 6.2 Silverado now! It was a much nicer ride, better quality interior and had much more punch when I floored it. And the inside is so quiet. I especially loved when I totally blew past an F-150 when the light turned green even though he buried his pedal first lol Once I noticed he wanted to go, I floored it and passed him with ease.

moe green Funny enough, I've since changed my mind again since I posted that and bought a 2015 F-150 ecoboost after I test drove one. I've had it tuned and it blows anything out of the water by several car lengths. Mine is a supercrew 4x4 and I toasted a Hemi 2wd reg cab who was tuned with loud-ass muffler to boot. It was hilarious. Got 4 lengths ahead and he slowed down and turned off the road. lol Twin turbo chargers for the win!

I've said it before. This is NOT a Corvette engine. It's a 6.2L Small Block Chevy. Just like the 5.3 is NOT a Vette engine either, nor is it a "detuned" Vette engine or anything of the sort. It's just another one of the many SBCs Chevrolet makes. This engine is an L86 The Vettes is an LT1. FYI to the fool screaming "Ford can do more with less" Chevy 6.2 makes more power than Fords 6.2. As does Chevys 2.0T vs Fords 2.0T, Chevys 3.6 vs Fords 3.7 along with Many other direct comparisons.

TFL, all small block Chevys, per it's appropriate generation, are "essentially the same". they share the same architecture, physical exterior dimensions ect. To call it a Corvette engine would imply the corvette uses this engine, it doesn't. Differing cam/heads, ecm tuning ect makes it a different engine. The different hp/tq outputs and operating rpm range prove this. I could easily see them telling media people, like Roman, who aren't mechanically inclined that it's "like a Vette engine"
@nimlil
@nimlil 11 жыл бұрын
Yes the engine is not the LT1 but it is the new gen 5 motor which is closely related to the Gen V small-block V-8 in the new Chevy Corvette. Both are aluminum-block eights with 6.2 liters of displacement. Both feature cylinder deactivation and direct fuel injection, and both make north of 400 horses. Also it features the same 11.5 compression ratio. For all entended purposes and as explained by Chev exectives, it is the same engine as the corvette with a few ajustments to serve for truck duty.

TFL. Yall know I Love yalls reviews. I'm just sayin it how it is. The only truck to ever actually receive a "Corvette Engine" was the Trialblazer SS. Early C6 Vettes had an LS2. the TBSS also had an LS2. GM has a LOT of different small blocks. I'm simply tryin to save you good people and especially Roman from lookin like a Full by calling the Silverados L86 6.2 the same engine as a Vette which has an LT1. that's all guys. I promise there is no hate here

there are 3 different LT1 generations the first original LT-1 was used in 1970-1972 in various corvettes and camaros, then the gen II small block there's the LT1 used in the 92-96 vette, 94-97 Camaro also an all aluminum version called the LT4 and a unrelated twin cam 32v engine called the LT5 in the 90-95 ZR-1 corvette, all these displaced 5.7L, the new LT1 is a Generation V small block, the LS3 is a gen IV small block, the man in the video is saying the ecotec3 6.2 is related to the new LT1

I'm just making assumptions here but I think that it's the same block design as the corvette, but with a different camshaft setup and tuning. You look at the Corvette and in that application it makes the same 460 lbs/ft of torque, but it also red lines around 7000 rpm. This truck likely tops out at about 5500-5800 rpm. It's tuned for lower end torque for towing but let's be honest I'm sure they did this to give the Tundra a run for it's money.

This truck has a 3.42 rear end, that's probably the reason for the more modest towing capacity. If it had the 3.73 rear end(or even lower) it would be rated for more. The 5.3 with the 11,500 lbs towing is probably the regular cab 2wd which nobody even buys.

But I know how these LS last and when I start her up cold in the morning even the stock exhaust is loud as hell. Everyone thinks I have aftermarket . I imagine some good stainless works long tubes would he bad ass.

That truck was equipped with 3.42s I think. I thought these were rated to 11,500, though, with towing gears.

Yeah, I'm sure that's why Ford's website says that it will tow a maximum of 7,700 lbs.

nice truck, that thing is a best.....but why does it need to be that fast, why cant I find a video where they show off the trucks ability to be a truck. Why do I need a big screen, leather trim, chrome molding and shinny handles to push, pull or perform in less favorable conditions

He didnt note the lightning... Only Dodge with the SRT10. Although the lightning was a different motor than the cobra it was the same idea.

One more thought, If GM were to put this motor in more of their trucks in all models I feel they would get a lot more attention. I see on a daily basis with the 5.3L blown motors.Not the 6.0 or 6.2. (2012-2015). I personally see ring jobs/piston jobs on a daily basis with trucks that only have 20K - 40K miles on them. This is a very common thing with the 5.3L I do feel that GM use to build a much better and more dependable truck.

I tried but cant leave this to rest This pickup equipped with 3.73s can tow 12,000lbs. 700lbs MORE than the equivalent 2014 Ford and 1500lbs more the the equivalent 2014 Ram respectively. Finally it is NOT a "Corvette" engine. It's a 6.2L Small Block Chevy. It's RPO is L86, not LT1. If this had an LT1 THEN it would have a "Vette" engine. Just because it has similar displacement, architecture and Technology does not make it a "Vette" engine. thatd be like sayin the 5.3 is a downsized Vette engine
