first of all, you sir are a fantastic presenter! you are informative without being boring or cheesy. keep up the great work and awesome reviews! now on to the vehicle in question. the Journey. a great vehicle from Dodge. My mom bought one last year used with 18k showing and it's a 2015. I personally prefer older vehicles but bc my mom recently had brain surgery and doesn't like to drive alone anymore, I have been tasked with driving her around in her Journey. I absolutely love the Journey. I am 35 with some pretty awful back and knee problems so I tend to get "beat up" in most newer vehicles due to the hard interiors and the stiff suspensions bc it seems all manufacturers nowadays are trying to see how "sporty" they can make their vehicles. noone seems to build comfortable vehicles anymore. yet her 2015 Journey is extremely comfortable for a newer vehicle. The seats are by no means overly plush sofas but they aren't near as hard as most all seats are in newer vehicles. Once u adjust it to a comfy position I can go long distances in it without feeling like I went 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. The suspension is very soft for a suv/xuv. it doesn't bounce up and down like a trampoline but it also doesn't send my spine thru the top of my head if I hit a pothole. the controls for the radio and air conditioning are within a very comfortable reach and can be adjusted without fear of swerving off road. more especially the radio controls because there are 3 ways to adjust it. the steering wheel, the touch screen, and the knobs on the lower dashboard, the first of those of course being the easiest once you figure out which button is which. Her Journey is the smallest 4 cylinder available and while it gets great gas mileage it does seem a bit lacking and weak. Passing someone on a 2 lane road can be a teeth clenching experience if not done with great timing. The backseat room is very impressive also and the back seats are very comfortable which is unusual considering the rear passengers comfort is always an after thought for car designers. I especially like that the second row seats recline. Again great for someone with back problems such as myself. Other than the lack of power from the engine I am thoroughly impressed by the Journey. As a matter of fact my fiance drove my mom's car to the store for a grocery run for my mom bc her Toyota Corolla won't hold near the volume that the Journey will, and she fell in love with it..She asked me a few days ago if we could look into getting one. I told her yes as long as we could get the V6 version bc I am at heart an old hot rodder and appreciate the acceleration from a big motor when I put my foot down. The larger engine is why I found this video. I googled the sxt version and found this video. I was hoping to see a test of acceleration in this video but I understand that you were showing practicality and ease of use not a power test like Top Gear would've done. Thanks again for the great review and keep it up !!!!

This summer (2013) I rented a Dodge Journey V6 4WD for 5 weeks for a trip through the States, and I can say: It's a perfect car. Lots of cargo space, perfect seating position, nice big radio screen, strong enough engine - to make it short: there was nothing wrong with that car at all, it just made me feel great the whole trip. After that for a short time I rented a GMC Terrain because I liked how it looks, but it didn't come close to the Dodge, much smaller inside, much less comfortable. Some months before I had a Ford Escape in Canada, I liked that too - but for me the Dodge Journey is the best midsize SUV in the market.

Yeah renting vs owning are 2 different things. My girlfriend just traded her 2010 sxt. Kept it well maintained but it was a money pit. Randomly dying while driving, widows would roll down & doors will unlock by them selves, horn would randomly honk by itself, key fob's would stop working, those are just to name a few issues. Thought there was a recall for the randomly dying issue the dealer refused to do anything about it even though the said issue was on the NHSI website for the same year make n model vehicle.

@@thatguybeeba4873 Shure, I believe you. - In the meantime, last year I, I bought myself a Ford Escape. Here in Germany it's called Ford Kuga and built in Spain. Here Ford gives you the best value for the money. The Dodge Journey is called Fiat Freemont in Europe and very expensive. And it's too big for our narrow streets. - Last year I rented the new model of the GMC Terrain in California. It was okay, but I preferred the previous model. In Canada this time I rented the Subaru Outback. I didn't expect that, but that's my favourite now. But double the price of the Escape.

The Journey is what it is. No bold claims and I kind of respect that. I work for a Chrysler dealership and spend a lot of time behind the wheel of all FCA vehicles. The Journey has probably the best suspension for tough transitions even compared to the Grand Cherokee. No crashing or bumping. Pretty impressive for something from 2009. The crossroad trims suspension definitely helps with matching the performance of the Pentastar. Good video!

Thanks for the review! After looking at the acadia and reading some awful reviews we decided to shop around. This video helped a lot in our decision. Just purchased a 2012 sxt and so far so good. I gotta say that I was surprised when I accelerated onto the freeway. Smooth shifting and rather quick for a crossover.

We had a 2009 Dodge Journey & it was great, very roomy with 3 kids. But then the a/c went out so we weren't really looking but got junk mail and went to Dodge for the numbers. Long story short, we bought a 2014 Dodge Journey SE 4 cylinder (5+2) 7 passenger 3rd row seating. It's great , we like it. Miss the roomy mini van but we have a/c & that's a must in Texas. We had 2 recalls, the beauty cover & anti lock brake something. Had the radio replaced for cliches. Bought the cross bar's for the roof racks. All in all it's perfect for my wife. Plus the kiddos are getting older & soon will be driving, so we'll have more room, but we like it. So do our friends.

We purchased a new Journey a month ago and love it. Although ours is a STX it is quite loaded. About the only thing it didn't have was AWD and a sun roof. It. Was great to fine that Dodge uses Garmin navigation rather than some unknown one. One correction to your review, you can get a backup camera either as a factory or Dealer option. As a dealer option it still uses the factory display and costs about $500 to install. I think you can even get one for the 4.3" display. The one thing I wish Dodge would release an update to add Apples CarPlay but I'm not holding my breath. We Cary our two large dogs with us a lot and the rear A/C three zone system is great for them. Add to that we can leave the engine running and lockup the Journey allows us to make short stops and still keep the dogs safe and cool. Oh yes, if you want a dog barrier for the Journey checkout travall.us as they by far the best barrier bar none. The only down side is the price, about $240 shipped from England.

I'm from Italy. I drove a 2013 Fiat Freemont which is the rebranded version of the Journey. Very few Pentastar engine are sold here, obviously. Mine has a more conventional (for European standards) 2.0L diesel engine, 140HP, manual gearbox. Despite the "heavy" body (2 tons, friends call it "IL BESTIONE" - the BEAST) its acceleration and handling are good! Fun fact: the Pentastar engine makes the Fiat Freemont the more powerful not-racing car with FIAT badge sold EVER (not the quickest, there was the Fiat Coupé turbo, 250kph).

I have the 2013 model of the Journey. So far I have no complaints. Summer driving is just fine. I drove it from Iowa to Florida and back during my last vacation and didn't have a care in the world. Winter driving is not great but not bad either. A bit of common sense goes a long way when driving this car. While I think I may be looking at something a bit larger next time around (perhaps a Durango or Jeep). I would not mind getting another Journey.

I think the Journey is indeed a compelling choice for buyers looking around. But I kind of feel like it's trying too hard to meet some of the needs for everyone instead of meeting all of the needs for a lot of people. Jack of all trades, master of none. It's not as luxurious as the more expensive competitors. It's not as sporty as the Explorer. It's not as predictable-and-boring-but-reliable as the Japanese. Yet it dabbles a little in all of these areas. My favorite is the Explorer. But I don't know am I comparing wrong segments? Good review by the way.

My wife and I purchased a 2013 Dodge Journey SXT back about a year and a half ago with about 25000 miles and since then the only complaint i have is that the suspension is very cheaply made and have been to the dealer atleast 5 times since purchase to check it and its always the same thing everything is fine which is not cause the bushings go very quickly and in the winter it has a very hard start and now after this winter the engine stutters and it does not hold it resale value at all we wanted to trade it in but couldnt because of the 4000 and change in negative equity DO NOT PURCHASE YOUR BETTER OFF GETTING SOMETHING DIFFERENT

Interesting review. I am seriously considering buying. Compared to the others you reviewed this one really is better value for the money. The only serious concern I have about the journey is battery location/ engine layout. The battery is in the left wheel well and very difficult to access. You would likely have to remove the wheel, and then remove all the screws in the protective panel to access it. So most people will have to hire a mechanic to do this. To me that is a ridiculous layout.

The cargo space where the stroller should go is hard to get in and i have a phil and teds strollers that is the smaller double stroller u can get... and if i want to get it in the trunk, I have to take wheels off, and front bar... so i not sure i will recommended to a family with small kids also if u have car seats in the second row is really hard to get to the third row..unfortunately for us.. is not like we can take it back...

I have a 2013 Dodge Journey 3.6 V6 and so far it has been a very good car for my family a total of 5 and when we go places my parents come with us so the 7 seats get used which is one of the main reason why i got this car for the third row. The car reliability has been pretty good no problems at all and while driving it is very powerful if you get the V6 which is the one you should get dont get the V4 because this car ways about 5500 pounds which for a 4 cylinder means you will be putting a lot of stress on the engine which will affect it reliability in the long run and its pretty slow. Also, When you are in this car you feel very safe it feels like a truck but it rides like a car also it has all the safety features that you would expect. If it was my choice i say you should get a 2012 because i think thats when they redesigned it to make the inside better so the best bet is to go with a 2012 Journey with a V6 definitely

I have a 2014 Dodge Journey SE 2.4l and honestly I love the room and compartments but this engine is terrible, it eats the gas quick and struggles uphill other than that my family fits comfy :)

According to Wikipedia these cars are 100% in Mexico, and that's where they belong.

I wouldn't compare it to the Ford Escape, because that is more of a small SUV while the Journey is a mid size. I would compare it to the Ford Edge.

Seats have to be uncomfortable when you have plastic boxes instead of extra sitting suppoert.
