So 7 years later, did you ever change that front sproket?
@ericgrunnet2762Ай бұрын
I have the same year model. Have owned 30 to 40 bikes, from dirt bikes to GSXRs. And like you, I put up with the little things because it is such a cool, great, and fast bike. I haven't even considered selling it.
@Kiwiriderandcarnut4 жыл бұрын
I noticed the same gearing issue with my 796 monster, almost NEVER used 6th. Once I changed the front and back sprocket it changed completely. I'd recommend going down a tooth at the front with ANY Ducati, seems to make them happy
@joeysawatzky55979 жыл бұрын
I dropped a tooth in the front 2 weeks after i got my 2015. That upped the rpm in all the gears which made it better for city and hwy driving. Im with darnz on how fun this bike is though. Love it!
@TheDarnz9 жыл бұрын
+Joey Sawatzky I never even thought of doing that! That would make this bike so much easier to ride. The biggest gripe I have is the gearing around the city. I'm seriously considering doing this now! Thanks, mate.

My mechanic (ex ducati) said that is a simple solution. Get your suspension settings right. And that is all you really need to do to it.
@JenniferSmith-yl6lr4 жыл бұрын
I swapped from Vmax 17ü0 to the Diavel last weekend - first time I swapped with my buddy. What can I say... we both were happy to be back on our bikes. I am used to light weight nimble bikes as well (I have a SV650 as third bike) so I could handle the Diavel whereas my buddy was totally overdone with the weight and size of the Vmax. After that trip he said that it was brave of me riding the Diavel. I said no, it was brave of me giving you the Vmax. The only mode the diavel behaves like I expect from a bike with 150+ hp is in sports mode and there it is useless to go below 3500 rpm The Vmax pulls from 1500. Even 50kph in top gear (5.) is possible. That is the cruising part of the Vmax. If you go beyond 4000, the Vmax accelerates as hard as any superbike, that is the superbike part of the Vmax.

Yeah a 14 tooth front sprocket is the best value upgrade for any ducati I've owned. First thing I do now. It makes the bike a lot easier to drive day to day.

I did a ten things response to Downshift83 about my 2011 Diavel. Having the bike for five years made some things stand out like a sore thumb. Swapping coolant helps with the temp. Honda coolant from the dealer seems to work well. Drop a tooth on the front sprocket and you'll be pulling in sixth at 70kph. Also helps to retune with Tuneboy. I can ride down to 2500 rpm smoothly after Tuneboy. Stock fueling sucks to meet emissions and sound BS. Then again, maybe ditching the flapper valve in the exhaust also helped with my low end. Stock pillion is very wide, flat, and thin. No way to help that unless they wear padded shorts or get a different seat. I think they named it Diavel because the devil keeps nagging you to go faster Faster FASTER every time you ride it. Hellish fun.
@albymangled9 жыл бұрын
I have owned my Diavel for almost three years (new in January 2013). It is too noisy mechanically. It ran shite at low revs (under 4k) until I put a Tuneboy to it. Really the only time it is any sort of fun is when you are basically breaking the law. It is damn near impossible to cruise on. Typical Ducati it is a one trick pony. Fast. I have tried for three years to love this thing but there are days where I am out on it but just come home early 'cause I'm getting more and more jacked off the longer I ride it. Yes, it overheats in traffic (even in winter). The header tank leaked cooling fluid and was replaced under warranty (eventually, after a couple of visits to the service centre). Yes it is too tall geared when stock (I went lower for traffic work). It eats tires (and you can only buy one brand / compound of rear) in around 7000kms. Mine needs it's 24000km service now...($1300 please..FFS) & I have retired it to the back of the shed 'till I can be fucked riding it again. My first and last Ducati. I have never had to work so hard (unsuccessfully) to love a bike and failed. No, I am not a troll, nor am I kidding.....Glad you are enjoying your Diavel. May you ride long & safe.

+albymangled It definitely is a love it or hate it kind of bike! I guess as I mainly rode the Diavel in short bursts on back roads I didn't get as annoyed by it's drawbacks. At least you can say you honestly tried, mate!

Bro.... you do realise both the front forks and the rear mono shock are fully adjustable... at a turn of the knob...literally! Also on the pillion seat, every single passenger Ive ever had on my 2014 (had it since new) has remarked that it is hands down the most comfy pillion ride they've had, and believe it or not with my missis literally having an orgasm just sitting there on one particularly amazing ride soooo..... its hard for me to draw any negatives regarding the Diavel pillion seat ...lmfao!!!! Anyhoo.... enjoy ya ride bro ....stay safe and stay upright !!! Chur

Yea mate I tried all sorts of different settings with the suspension and even had the Ducati mechanic dial it in to what he thought were the most suitable settings. Just bought the strada version after 3 ‘nice’ BMWs, last one the S1000 XR which is quick..but the Diavel is so much more at mid range and handles so well. Your Termi system came with an ECU update, right? And it still shudders like that? That's the main reason I didn't buy a 2010 Multistrada, I cannot deal with the shuddering at regular cruising RPMs. I have a CBR600 that's been jetted and it's super smooth, I can't bring myself to spend more than 10k for an engine that requires babysitting. The new Multi is OK with the DVT, but it's $20k.
@TheDarnz9 жыл бұрын
+aluisious The Termi system came with a Ducati Performance ECU map. It doesn't do anything to help the low range fueling though. Some people hate it, some people call it character! Just have to be a bit more mindful of gear selection is all. I'm going to be testing the new Multi next week. Very interested to feel the difference.

+back fire Hey there. I run Termis on mine with the cores out and the sound is like a race bike. You can feel the power pulses passing through your body. It's really great. With that said, between wind blast and the exhaust I wear ear-plugs inside my helmet..Plus I live in Texas where evidently no one cares how loud your machine is. Many places would probably not be so tolerant..It's that loud. You can scare the shit out of Harley riders...

If it doesn't like being below 4,000 rpm, what's the point of it? It's supposed to have lots of low-down torque? Or is this the old model? I thought they'd sorted the low-down lugging problem. How does it pull from 2,000 in top gear? I don't see how with an engine of 1200 cc upper revs performance and low-down pull need to be mutually exclusive. My B-King revs like mad, but will pull out of a roundabout in 6th gear at 1,000 rpm if I want.
@TheDarnz8 жыл бұрын
The point of it is to go fast! The torque doesn't really kick in until 4500rpm. Drawback of using a superbike engine in a road bike I guess. The low down lugging has been sorted with the new XDiavel's variable valve timing engine but this engine doesn't have that. It doesn't pull from 2000rpm at all! The bike would be shaking itself to pieces and probably be close to stalling at rpm that low!
