This was very helpful, i am a mechanic and i am preparing to replace both of my catalytic converters in my 2014 Ford Explorer Limited Awd , so i have to work on removing the exhaust shield and everything by feel and by doing my best to remove everything and replace it while working around the driveshaft which i don't want to remove. The front catalytic converter is going to be a walk in the park compared to the rear.

It’s not too bad with the extensions. Might be hard if you have big hands lol

@@Hoodsaintfishing My hands arre not too big thankfully, i am planning to replace all of the oxygen sensors with the new catalytic converters , i'm going to be driving from Massachusetts to Florida so i really don't want any issues cropping up. I am planning to use my oxygen/acetylene torch setup that i bought the propane torch tips and i'm going to tryto heat all of the bolts up that i possibly can. Thanks again for the awesome video!

Best video ever! At first I ignored this video and watched some o2 sensor changed. And not really helpful with my problem p0420 catalysts system efficiency below threshold ( bank 1) But after I watched this video! I feel hopeful that I can do this. I have 2012 ford explorer xlt. Just wondering if they have same parts as 2014? More power on this guy

doing this right now on the police interceptor. factory manual wants me to remove the front axle shaft to get the cat out the bottom, but after watching this I think it might be easier to pull the rear shaft to go out the way he did in this video. The fwd version looks pretty straight forward without the driveshaft running down that tunnel!
@nissangeek2 жыл бұрын
After all was said and done I did have to go out the side, so removing the RH wheel and long axle for the AWD. I tried out the tunnel, even lowered the subframe a bit but it was just to tight. Was worth the shot to try though! The PTU was just too big.
@ThomasB6346 ай бұрын

Mine is a 4x4 I didn't have to remove the ptu but I did have to disconnect the rear drive shaft and pull the hub off the ptu then trim the heat shield bolts but it can be done
@CaribbeanSimPilot2 жыл бұрын
How hard was this to do?
@graemegibbons84082 жыл бұрын
It wasn't the hardest. But I did use a two arm puller to get the hub off. Also I had to trip the bolts that hold on the heat shield. All together the whole job took me about 4 hours
@alexmike5445 Жыл бұрын
@@graemegibbons8408 how about disconnecting the driveshaft, then lowering the engine 2 inches (by releasing the top engine mounts nuts, and removing the lower swing mount)? in fact both Haynes and Chilton recommend to remove the lowest swing mount, and i assume the reason is to be able to push the engine forward too. what do you think?

I was able to loose all six bolts on the rear(bank1) catalytic converter from 2014 Ford Police Interceptor 3.7L as instructed in this video. However, I can not wiggle out the cat from the bottom, or from the heat shield side. Do I need to remove more parts on the right wheel side to give room? Thanks!
@Hoodsaintfishing7 ай бұрын
Not sure on that explorer. Just did the one in this video
@mli-yw8jv7 ай бұрын
Thanks anyway! I found the 3.7L explorer has a shaft behind the PTU box, so I can not wiggle the rear cat out through the dome space under the heat shield. May need to 1)remove the shaft, or 2)remove axle of the front passenger side, or 3)jack and pull forward the engine.

Also it’s seems like it’s not getting power but it’s just that one piece thats banging around like it’s gonna come loose

Might have to go to a muffler shop to replace that or just get someone to weld back right so it don’t rattle. If there’s no hole in the muffler it shouldn’t be that much money

Just the check engine. If you have performance issues drive it until you get another code. If you change the cat out and the car is performing bad it could just ruin your new cat. Make sure all cylinders are firing good
