2014 Ford focus transmission is slipping on the first and second gears. The other gears shift perfectly, but when taking off from a complete stop the car jolts with hesitation in the transmission.

For the clutch and hardware warranty, Ford is extending it from five years and 60,000 miles to seven years and 100,000 miles. The warranty covers 2014 to 2016 models of the Focus built from July 4, 2013, to Nov. 5, 2015, and 2014 to 2015 Fiesta models built from July 4, 2013, to Oct. 15, 2014. Ford has also extended the transmission warranty to 10 years or 150,000 miles. Ford also said Focus or Fiesta owners that would receive the extended warranty but have already paid for clutch repairs on their vehicle will be reimbursed by the company. All affected Focus and Fiesta owners will receive a personalized letter from Ford. Questions about the extended warranty or reimbursement can be directed to the company’s special customer assistance hotline at 1-833-805-3673 or Ford dealer.

I have a 2012, and I'm pretty sure it's the same transmission. That little hiccup is caused by the clutch. The focus has a dual clutch dry transmission which causes that, giving the car more of a manual driving experience. If you've ever driven a manual you would know that is completely normal.

The car is find and your transmission isn't failing. The car has a dry clutch which acts both as a manual then turns into an automatic. This is why you are getting that jerking motion. You don't pull the car forward as if it is any other because you have to slowly give it gas. It just does it in 1st and 2nd, but more first. There is nothing wrong with this version of the focus. People just aren't used to the dry duel clutch system. Hope it helps anyone new to this car. It is a great car. No not a fast or powerful car, but I'd still recommend it.

I rev the car a bit (not too much) before take off and she doesn't sputter too much. people just need to learn how to drive this version of focus. I also got the Ford update to the DCT and it actually pulls off a bit smoother than before. Overall, good ride. I want the 2016 RS so bad.

Last spring, I was looking for a new car and the Ford Focus was on my list. In a test drive, driving in moderate/fast moving traffic, this was THE car I was looking for. BUT in slow bumper to bumper traffic, the dual clutch transmission made the car buck/surge and occasionally hesitate before acclerating. This was a brand new 2015 Focus test drive with less than 50 miles on the odo. Once the car got moving, the shuddering stopped. Sad, it really was fun to drive other than that.

Unless you can prove the dual clutch is classified as a manual and that’s actually the tranny I need for my 14 Ford Focus Sr because it would definitely save me $1000 if I just had to get a manual and not the “automatic” that the car part websites describe it as
@d0cx4 жыл бұрын
@@riosxvert7053 Internally, they operate on the same principles. Since manuals are more efficient compared to automatics, Ford developed a dual clutch system that can be in multiple gears at once. It's controlled by a computer that learns your driving habits and it slips the clutch in and out between first and second gear, one of the reasons causing the shudder.
@benjaminallan27565 жыл бұрын
I believe the shuddering is from the computers adaptive learning on the drivers driving habits. That grinding is from the clutch almost engaging into the gear. This bad habit is learned from driver's habits of feathering the gas when accelerating , so basically just almost engaging the clutch. This is why dealers fix this by reflashig the computer and letting it learn again( wiping out the bad habits ) . This is also why custom tunes of the transmission control work because these custom tunes make the gear shifting more aggressive. Ford's tune makes it drive and feel like an automatic by trying to engage the clutches slowly and smoothly, but that's why it shudders and wears down clutches Ford is trying to get rid of that "kick" manual transmissions have when switching gears . . It's because the DCT transmission is best driven like a manual transmission because it is a manual transmission. What people mean by that is don't baby it, push that accelerator hard to let the computer know you want to shift gears instantly, this will engage the clutch much faster avoiding it from hovering infront the gear, slowly pushing itself in and grinding the crap out of it. Need to really drive the DCT transmission like you mean business . That's just the truth to it all. Push the gas hard , let it rev high quickly so it will shift gears faster. This eliminates the shudder.

I have a 2014 Focus SE with 27,000 miles on it. The transmission has had the exact same problem since the day after I drove it off the lot. I took it back and got the run around about it. I've had the transmission inspected and I'm on a very long wait list for replacement parts from Ford. They will fix it (supposedly since I've been on the wait list for 4 months) and there should be improvement. Ford knows they are selling bad cars I have no idea why they are still doing so. This is my 4th Ford in a row and this is the 1st to have any problems. Sadly since I am now economically in this level of car I won't be returning to Ford.
@PhattCattDaNyce18 жыл бұрын
The transmission is not slipping. It's essentially a manual transmission. Its called a dual clutch transmission. 1st and 2nd shake because you are giving to much gas. You have to treat it like a manual transmission. Little at a time. People are having trouble because they are not educated on what they are buying. Maybe if the ales people did a better job at explaining it less people would freak out. Happy my sales guy was right on the money. I bought my 2014 Ford Focus SE brand mew in 2013 and was explained this transmission in full before I test drove any of them. This transmission was designed to give you that great gas mileage you love about the vehicle. I hope this helps you.

When I bought the car at 100,000 miles, the trans is jilting like you said. I changed the trans fluid and the jolting magically went away. There IS an issue with these transmissions. If you take your card to a Ford dealership they will run it through testing and "flash" the transmission with updated software to try to get rid of the problem. If your card tests out above the "shudder threshold" they will order the part to replace what is causing the issue. If it is lower than that threshold you are told basically to just deal with it that it is normal. I sent an email to the corporate office and received one back from their "customer service" department that said not only can this be an issue with the shuddering, but this part if it goes out can prevent your car from going into gear and/or prevent your car from starting. Ford should just have enough integrity to issue a recall....they extended the warranty on the transmission of these cars because of the known issue, but in my opinion they are too worried about their warranty audits to actually issue a recall. Someone is going to be hurt, or worse, this shudder is especially bad when having to maintain lower speeds due to traffic or winter road conditions.

And for some reason it's so weird but it only shutters the second time u start it and after. Dual clutch the answer is right there. It has two clutches one to handle forward one to handle reverse. The car has a natural slag time because it's not a true automatic. It does have problems with those clutching system though, if you can clear some paint off the metal where it's being grounded that should clear that up. If that doesn't work you may need a transmission pull kit to spin the engaging forks. Which are located directly under both clutches. Clean area with bake cleaner then 14 turns counter clockwise in each fork. Good luck.

Obviously youll feel a bit but its because like i said dual clutch transmissions dont have torque converters.

Give it a chance this vehicle is awesome my 2014 Focus SE (DCT) performs great. The 6DCT450 Dual Clutch Transmission designed by GETRAG and developed in Germany is something to respect, to anybody that is thinking about getting a Ford Focus equipped with this particular gearbox requires some education and attention. In regards to this transmission that so many are complaining about, it may just be how people are driving it and there habits that do not work well with the dual clutch system and as a result there experience will be awful.... ("Hence,,, The shuttering! This is a piece of junk or it's a lemon! and this does not work right! etc"),, again give it a chance there is a way to drive this vehicle it has very unique characteristics about the way the transmission handles and behaves it is all about the heel to toe driving and how you apply the accelerator and in some ways much like a (manual stick). This vehicle is not a hot rod, however it is very sporty and it's designed to perform very well in this category. Please read the link I have posted below this will help you understand the transmission better. In fact one last note about this,, I have an advantage in a way over average vehicles on the highway because this transmission is designed to change gears at lightning speeds with no loss in torque which is amazing with no problems passing other motorists while getting better fuel economy all at the same time. Hope you enjoyed this little review and good luck it is all up to you,, everybody is different. Cheers! ,,,,,www.focusfanatics.com/forum/mk3-focus/415994-ford-powershift-dct-transmission-info-use-guide-new-owners-look-here.html

Well, in my opinion, the transmission design is stupid if you HAVE to drive it an EXACT CERTAIN WAY or it won't shift properly. Its not a race car, nor a sports car. Every person drives these cars from new drivers to the elderly. I personally own a 14' and it behaves this exact way that the video shows. I'm hoping Ford will recognize this obvious flaw and recall the models before everyone's transmission dies.
@OMthree288 жыл бұрын
+Ian Savill Research the track record of the German made GETRAG automatics in the late 90's-2000's BMW 3 and 5 series. It wasn't good. They would sheer the reverse gear around 100k and it became such a common problem that BMW switched all their automatics from the GETRAG to one made by GM of France. They didn't even wait to release the new body styles before switching the transmissions. They may have improved now, but I'm just saying that just because it's made in Germany does not mean it's the best. This is coming from someone that has owned seven BMWs over the past few years.

wrong there is a class action lawsuit that created a recall, it has to do with ford cheaping out and not putting a heat shield on a solenoid and sending incorrect info to the PCM/ECU then it shifts incorrectly due to improper voltage output. There is a fix but it voids the warranty, so search for the recall/lawsuit and you will find your answer.

It has been proven that Ford knew these transmissions were pieces of shit when their testers reported failures, way before they were released to the public. Ford is well known to know about major problems even serious safety issues and still release the vehicle because its cheaper for them to go to court than to fix the issues with the vehicle before production begins.
@robertallen62936 жыл бұрын
As most posts have stated that yes it is a dry clutch transmission, but only the clutch pack not the whole transmission, the second half has transmission fluid in it. Here the problem, the seal between the clutch and gears are faulty and leak just enough fluid on the clutch pack and this is what's causing the slipping issue. Ford has extended warranty on the transmission so check with a ford dealer.
@TurboTurdBurglar2 жыл бұрын

Sorry to hear that you're having issues like this with such low mileage. The fact of the matter is that Ford's new six-speed transmission is a big POS. A family member of mine has a 2012 Mustang V6 with the automatic transmission. Although the V6 packs a pretty heavy punch, the transmission itself is a big POS. It periodically surges on its own from time to time and shifts WAY too early from 1st to 2nd, almost feeling as if the vehicle is losing power between gear changes. It sometimes shifts kind of hard, too, yet the vehicle only has 10,000 miles on it to this day. To make matters worse, I heard that these transmissions were manufactured in CHINA. Need I say more? I've been a Ford guy for a long time, but it makes me mad knowing that Ford is outsourcing to such countries for their car parts.

If you still have the car. Look into the newer 14M02 recall. My transmission was 20x worse than this so yours might just be in the beginning of the failing TCM in that recall. To put this in simple terms its basically a manual transmission controlled by a computer(btw this is the automatic transmission). It does this because thats the nature of a manual transmission. Ford chose this for its better fuel economy and it sporty ability. If the shakes get really bad just take it to the dealership and have the clutches replaced. should not cost much at all. :)

Yes bad design and attempt at making a dual clutch transmission like VW by Ford. So many problems with this transmission on 13, 14 focus that they decided to drop it and use a regular automatic transmission for the 2015 model. What they should do is swap out the transmission for a regular automatic on all 13 and 14 but instead they prefer to replace the clutch every 20k.
